Bridesmaids
and honeymoon update
A few days ago Justin and I officially booked our honeymoon!!! We will be spending 7 lovely nights in the Dominican Republic! We are staying at the Dreams Resort in Punta Cana.

Also, Justin let me use his car today to drive to Robinson PA (despite being 35 mins away this is the closest shopping center to us ). I was trying to get just 2 of my bridesmaids together but that was hell and we are already under the six month mark!! So I just decided to go by myself and at least pick the color so my out of town maids can start buying. I kept debating between different shades of navy blue and what did I finally decide on??? PEACOCK BLUE. big surprise... Haha oh well, at least I got the accomplished. In the picture, the blue fabric on the left is the peacock. It's a little darker in person.

Hopefully coordinating another trip with ny 2 local mIss will be easier when midterms are over.

How's it comin with you ladies? Any maid trouble?

Ask a Question
wedding invitations
Hope you all had a wonderful valentine's day with your fiances!

We are celebrating on saturday since he works full time and has classes this week but we still exchanged cards and watched a movie :)

I also made him these chocolates as seen in the second picture [i love making candy even though its very rare that i actually get to make it]. They are a little girls, but what valentine's day thing isnt girls? seriously, pink red and hearts? At least it was some thing he could eat ;)

I have a question about Invitations though....

If you have parents paying for the wedding, are you putting their names on your invitation?

Also, should Justin and I have our last names on the invitation as well?
we are having a big wedding and these invites will be sent to family that havent seen me since i was little or maybe dont recall me at all whatsoever [great aunts and uncles and such..] but my parents would still like to invite them as a courtesy. Should I include a little picture in the invite? I've never been married before so i really dont know!

Groom's men
What to wear?!
Ok ladies, I need ya'lls opinion!!!

So i really want the Girls in navy blue and the men in black tuxes with green vests/ties. the only problem is, I don't know which shade of green is the best!

I obviously don't want a dark forest green, but I just decided to show you all of the Men's Warehouse options for contrast.

Really, I'm between 2, 4, & 5

I'm having green hydrangeas and I would like to match the color of the flower. However, that's not really something consistent so I'm now trying to match it to my guest box since that was my original inspiration for this theme.

Tell me what you ladies think!!! I'm hesitant to do lime green, but it may be my best option :)

Cheers,
Sam

Wedding Invitation
a Godsend!
I have been searching and searching and I just couldnt seem to find the right invitations! Invitations may only be a small part but they have such a big job! It is the first impression your guests will have of the theme of your wedding! Now I have a vintage/rustic theme however, the underlying theme is peacock.

Normally peacock is associated with glam and glitz but I have been determined to have a hometown-ohio valley- peacock wedding that is rustic AND chic! Now trying to communicate that in an invitation, not as easy as i had hoped. All the vintage invitations were cute, but for that retro look, the colors would always be too pastel for me [my colors are light green and navy blue].

UNTIL,

I was searching on Etsy and found these!!! They have a vintage/layed back feel and they are still peacock!!! I was so so so happy! FH didnt really care haha but I am so pumped!

The only thing is, this is just a design that I purchase and then I print it myself. While I will save money doing it this way, I'm not exactly sure how to go about it. I obviously dont want to mess up my wedding invitations. Any tips????

Also, I dont know if i told you ladies, but i moved into my new appartment last week and I love it! I have a room to myself that FH can come over and hang out in! I mean, we always had his house as a hang out place, but now I can cook him dinner at my place if we want! My room is mostly pink, lime green and orange haha. I dont know if you can see my classy pics of Audrey Hepburn in the background... I've tried to do just a little decorating to make myself feel at home. I'll post more pics next time ;)

Happy planning ladies!

Natural Family Planning
Yesterday was my first day
This is something i feel SO SO SO passionate about! Ladies, we need to take care of our bodies. When you want to eat healthier, chances are you stay away from foods with a lot of perservatives, artificial colors and flavors. You eat more organic foods like fruits, veggies, and grilled meats. Well, what if you wanted to have sex healthier? Same thing. I would like to see a sex revolution where women said no to artificial contraceptives that can harm their bodies and said yes to the natural cycle of their bodies!

*phew* sorry for the mini soap-box speech

Anyway, I am already feeling a little overwhelmed with my first few days of charting my cycle, but i am VERY determined to see this through for the rest of my life and have a happy healthy body that hubby and i can share in together.

It is important that I learn my cycle because FH and I would like to avoid pregnancy until i am done with school. This means avoid having sex on the days when I am most fertile [ovulation]. Now i know as newlyweds this is the last thing that we want to do, however... FH reassured me by saying this:

"These times of abstinence that we will have to keep to arent that bad; its like I am courting you forever. My anticipation to be intimate with you will never die and i will always cherish the time we DO get to have, when we have it. "

FHubby couldn't have said it better! Not only is the Creighton Model better for women's bodies, but it is AWESOME for your relationship with your husband and the appreciation you will grow to have for each other via this process!

As you can see by the picture, the chart looks confusing and I am a little confused honestly haha but i have a nurse helping me a long the way and I am so thankful to have learned about this method!

Hope you all are having a wonderful day!

Wedding Budget
I dropped outta school
SORRY I'VE BEEN M.I.A

Long story short?

Now let me explain. I have 3 semesters left of college. I have no loans and no debut. The problem is, i now have no money. FHubby offered to cough up $14,000 from his life savings to get me through school debut free. However we had a better option. He is staff at my university and if he has worked there over 24 months then his dependents [wife... me] will get free tuition. This will go into effect next fall when we are married. So until then I have decided to postpone my education to do this wedding and save $14,000!

Pros:
-more time for DIY projects
- I got to move out of my dorm and in with my bff who is also engaged
- saving a heck of a lot of cash, some of which can go toward our honeymoon/wedding

Cons:
-lost my job at the university as a student worker [no longer a student]
- i need to get a new job [to pay rent]
- FMIL is offended that i didnt move in with her [rent free]
-I had to surrender the only familiar thing in my life right now

Things have been gettting territorial between the FMIL and I lately. I totally understand it, I'm sure most [if not all] women go through this. However, under the circumstances and the necessity for separation and transition, I dont think it would be best for me to move in with my future in laws [though i love them dearly] despite the economic benefit.

I dont know. It's been a hard an emotional week and I've just been feeling really down on myself. I know I'm saving my future family a lot of money by not taking out a loan or letting Justin sign away his savings, but i still feel like a loser bum for dropping out this semester. any one else have to go through this? any advice?

I'm having lunch with FMIL tomorrow and I think I'm just honestly going to tell her that I love her and getting and apartment on my own isn't personal, its just a good way to start setting boundaries. Its best to start with obvious physical separation then you can work your way down to whats emotionally healthy boundaries until you and FHubby are comfortable around his/your family. does that make sense?

I feel dehydrated and to top off all this emotional stress I have an ear infection and a bacteria infection of the nose and throat so I really just want to SCREAM. Cant any one cut me a break?! Forget putting school on hold, I feel like i just wanna put my entire life on hold! I'm sick, i feel like i have to explain my every action to everyone, and I'm just exhausted for feeling like I'm letting every one down!

Help ladies?

-Samantha

Anticipation
Ladies tell me I'm not alone...
Future Hubby and I dont live together to maintain the beautiful chastity we have in our relationship. I dont know how many other couples out there are doing this [and dont get me wrong i wouldnt have it any other way] but it gets harder and harder to say good bye to him every night :( Granted if you live together there are struggles too, but currently I'm facing the struggle of not living with this wonderful man. I know its going to make it that much better when we do get to share a home as husband and wife, i just feel so lonely. A lot of my friends have started separating themselves from me because they know that once I'm a married woman we wont be able to hang out as much etc.. but I'm also 4,000 miles away from my family AND i don't get to cling to my hubby at night either. I know this will be such a time of growing in strength when i look back on it but right now its just tough. Especially because we know a lot of couples who got engaged AFTER us.. but are getting hitched BEFORE us. Now we picked our day because it will be the 10th anniversary of FH's brother passing away and we want to honor the one we lost by celebrating the members being gained in marriage... but I'm not gonna lie, its rough.

I just have such an ache to be with Justin-- a burning desire and i have to wait. and he IS worth waiting for.. but my heart does ache every time he drops me off at my place...

ALSO, I dont know if any of you can relate... but my friends have NO SYMPATHY its like they want to say "Oh boo-hoo poor sam, shes engaged and going to have a wedding but she has to wait 6 months.. we feel so bad for her" [sarcasm, naturally]. But what they dont understand is I'm being ripped away from everything else i've ever known to be with this boy and yet, he's not the one i can cling to! I know I need to be dependent on the Lord in this time of struggle, but i just thought i would solicit the 'friendly place for brides' to see if any of ya'll know how i feel.

Blessings,
Sam

Wedding Rings And Jewelry
Fun Fact...
Pope Innocent III actually instituted the waiting period between engagement and marriage in the 13th century and also insisted that a ring be used in the wedding ceremony. Before that, rings were used to seal an engagement only.

The Roman Catholic church has so much influential history, its awesome! I love learning.

SO the first picture is a picture of my engagement ring. Its a Scott Kay design we found at Jared. A few weeks ago we went and looked at wedding bands. Hubby just wants the classic silver band. I tried to talk him into a band that had some etching that matched mine. He agreed that it matched better, but he still preferred the plain classic band lol. the other picture is of my wedding band. There is another band [non-Scott Kay] that looks identical to the Scott Kay band, that conveniently happens to be 1000 dollars cheaper so we will most likely go with that one and save the extra cash for our honeymoon :)

Have you all picked our your rings yet?

Happy Planning,
Sam

Story time with Sammielynn5
got "facials" with my 'maids
When i went to a bridal expo this summer i apparently won facials for me and all my bridesmaids plus $25 in makeup. So i had been trying to coordinate scheduels and it wasnt until last night that we all got to go! I had some reservations because she said it was at her house and i didn't know what products she was going to be using, so i knew it would be an adventure!

Well it turns out it was a mary kay party haha. I had NO idea this woman was a mary kay representative. So it wasnt that bad we just tested their skin care line and did a 'dash out the door' look with some make up. One of my maids is a make up expert [so she will also be doing my make up on the big day] so she encouraged me to by a good face wash moisturizer and foundation so that's what i purchased!

Also I'm thinking about selling mary kay after college. Justin and I don't know when we will have children yet but it would be nice to be able to do something from home that would bring in extra money since i don't know what ill be doing with my english degree!

In other news, my friend Rachel just got engaged! I am closer with her fiance because he and Justin are childhood friends but i am still so happy for them both! She was just studying abroad in Austria while he stayed here [which is exactly what i did to my hubby last year!] so i guess distance make the heart grow fonder! and surely if you can keep it together and come out strong after being separated and only being able to communicate through letters for 5 months, you can do anything!

Well thats the life update ladies. What fun things or funny expiriences have you had with your bridesmaids?

-Samantha
