Wedding Decoration
To DIY or not to DIY?

I have been playing with the idea of DIYing my centerpieces. I want to use fresh flowers, I know that for a fact. However, I was thinking rather than having huge, overly expensive arrangements I could play around with candles, glass cylinders, silver trays, and other decorative pieces to save some money and give our tables a different look.

I really love the centerpieces that have large glass cylinders filled with water and fresh flowers. Usually they are topped with a floating candle and the look is simply stunning. There are others styles that I like but I think this idea is my favorite so far.

There are a couple of drawbacks to DIYing and the main one for me is that they can be time consuming. With so much going on in the weeks leading up to the wedding, I wonder if I would be able to pull it together and get it done.

Also, what kind of flowers would I stuff in the cylinders?

You could have orchids in the cylinder vases.  They seem to work well with the water and submerge floralytes.

orchids, tulips and roses all last well underwater, Orchids probably the best.

Orchids really look really pretty in the cylinder vases!

I have heard of people using orchids or lily's - I would ask maybe a florist what they would recommend if you meet with one to get your fresh flowers.  If youa re doing something simple like a cylinder or vase of water with flowers and floating candles I don't think it would be too time consuming, and if it does take some time I would ask your bridesmaids - that's what they're there for right :) !  I would try maybe mocking one up with fake flowers to see how long it would take you to do and then all you have to do is add fresh flowers later.  Good luck!

Thanks for all the great ideas! I think I will talk to a florist and run the idea of orchids by her.

And I never thought about tulips but I like the picture in my head. I might give that a try!

FYI someone told me that you have to use distilled water so that there are no bubbles in the water. ( i want to do a similar idea)
