Reception
can't forget about the kids!!
stammlindsay's entry about needing ideas for the kids table spurred me on. lol. i guess I've sort of been planning it in the back of my mind without really realizing it. Because we're having the wedding at the beach, & we're holding the reception in an aquarium where we figured it would be entertaining for everyone of any age we're really not bothered if people wish to bring their kids along. Afterall, we decided upon the beach so that people could make a vacation out of it if they wanted to.

We've already decided that we're going to hire one of the educators that the aquarium offers who'll take the kids for an hour long tour around the aquarium and teach them about all of the exhibits. We're not going to get any food specifically for them because we're getting a buffet so we figure there'll be at least *something* on there that they should be able to eat.

As for everything else... I'm thinking a centerpiece for their table made out of candy flowers, a "treasure chest" filled with dress up stuff that they're welcome to keep afterwards- mostly going for a princess & pirates theme, but I saw some other stuff that I might throw in there too like mardi gras beads, a captains hat , masks, glo-sticks etc. all of which I'll pick up in Party City's post halloween sales. Chris is going to make the treasure chest for us. I'll throw some chocolate coins in there, & a few other surprises for them. There'll also be a board game or two that hopefully I can find in goodwill or a yard sale. There'll also be the obligatory coloring books & crayons & I'll probably cover their table with butchers paper so that they can draw all over the table too.

If my niece comes, I'll probably ask her if she can keep and eye on all the kids & I'll give her a bit of money at the end of the night- she'll be 14 by then so I don't think she'll mind too much. She'll do anything for money!

Excellent...On my page I expressed about he kids too. We're doing the same thing, BUT I'm not providing any candy trees or candy buffets. I don't want the kids to be wired and running around the dinner reception like sugar bandits. I will have a large lollipop in aqau blue waiting for their departure. They can take the sugar home :)  We are providing coloring book materials, stickers, trivia books, 3 board games (it's going to be about 25 kids at their own banquet table, while the adults sit at round tables. The kids should and must be entertained, because they do intend to take over weddings sometimes. Not all the time, but some of the time.
