I've been dying my hair black or dark brown for years- since I was in high school. My natural color is an ashy chocolate color with a strong/bright red tint to it- it's hard to describe. I'm not much fond of it because everyone goes on at me for being a redhead and I started dying it when i was a teenager to escape the teasing from my peers. I wish it were darker & more burgundy like my mothers is and then I'd quite like it.
Anyway, Chris is a sucker for redheads. Last year I dyed it bright red to make him happy- he'd been nagging me for months and I finally gave in and did it one day. Took 2 days to get it done, but it looked damned good for the first week. Then my mother said I looked like a "2 cent hooker" and I dyed it dark again immediately. I sorta miss it though. It was different, attention grabbing and fun. It reminded me of Disney's Ariel- one of the two princesses I always wanted to be when I was a kid (the other was Jasmine) and i think that's why I liked it so much.
I'm starting to feel pretty blah these days about my hair. It's been a dark brown shade for a while now. Just flat, richly colored chocolate. I want something different. I'm feeling the need with fall coming up to strip it all out and do something different again. Maybe I'll go blonde for a change? I haven't been blonde since I was 17! lol. I think that would be a pretty dramatic change for Chris. I doubt it would do much for my complexion unless it was platinum blonde- something bold, drastic and flattering and nothing brassy.
Now, for the wedding I don't want to do anything quite so drastic but I'm thinking I'd really like something a little different- perhaps burgundy red, & dark blonde chunks/highlights through a dark chocolate shade. I've heard about the whole "don't have highlights if you're going to wear your hair up" thing but I'm planning on wearing mine down & curled with a fascinator or a flower. And I'm not much bothered by streaks anyway- i think it creates a pretty interesting texture.
Alternatively I could have colored hair extensions or wefts put in so that it's only temporary and if I don't like it I can always take it out without damaging my hair. But my hair's already super long and very thick and I'm afraid putting more hair in there is just going to make life even more difficult. Not to mention, it's pretty expensive.
