I'm working on trying to cut our budget down a bit more because I feel really guilty about spending so much money on just one day. One thing I know I can definitely get away with not paying for professionally is my makeup. I've been wearing it since I was 13 and I'm pretty good at it. Not to mention, most of the times I've had makeup artists do it in the past I've wound up hating it (even if i had a trial done first), scrubbing it all off and doing it all over again by myself. So, makeup's crossed off the list. As is most of the cosmetic things I'd been planning- leg/bikini wax, indoor tanning, etc.
Moving onto the hair. I have long hair. Very long, very thick, & very fine hair. I haven't been planning on cutting it until after the wedding (when we have our 2nd reception about 3 weeks later, i was going to get one of my best friends in England to do it for me because she's incredible with it) so by then it'll be about waist length. Right now, It's between the bra line & the middle of my back. I've always had long hair, so I'm okay about doing it myself. I'm thinking about doing a simple style- loose, romantic curls... sort of beachy. Only thing is, while I can do it without a problem on hot curlers & just touching it up with a curling iron before i run out the door, it usually doesn't hold for more than a couple of hours.
So, any tips on how to make my hair hold the curl without completely destroying it, or making it too crunchy? It's going to have to hold for at least 7 hours- I'm wearing it down for the ceremony, then loosely pinning it up for the reception/after party.
Put a mousse in your hair as you are blowdrying it, if you are planning to use rollers, then put them in when your hair is wet and let it set over night...might be uncomfortable tho :s If you are going to curl it with a curling iron or straightner (which is really pretty) dry it with the mousse in your hair. Then, spray each section you are curling with hairspray. If you use a really good hairspray it shouldnt leave your hair crunchy. As you are going along, spray each strand before its curled and then after. This should give you some extra hold for your hair. Spray your hair again before you leave for the church and do any touch ups needed. My best friend has very thick hair that doesnt like to hold curl either, and it holds very well if she does this to her hair. Hope this helps :)
