Just some thoughts...
I love being considered
I was on the phone to my mum earlier and she was telling me about how she'd run into an old friend of hers today. I've never met the friend, but from what I've heard she's quite lovely. She's got two sons about the same age as me, so their kids are usually the main topic of conversation whenever they see each other.

Mum told her I was engaged & getting married next year- of course there was the obligatory congrats etc. and then she started asking what the wedding plans were. Mum told her that we've had lots of ups and downs & that we'd originally planned for the whole cathedral deal but that fell through. Mum then went on to tell her about our current plans. Apparently her jaw nearly hit the floor when my mum told her it would be at an aquarium, having a bird theme & I was wearing green shoes & jewelry, a tartan sash & a luckenbooth. Mum also went on to tell her that my girls were going to be in tea length dresses carrying feather fans instead of bouquets, and the boys weren't wearing tuxes- they'll have 3 piece suits with pocket squares instead of boutonnières. She told her about our wedding cake that looks like woods with song birds on it instead of a traditional white cake.

I couldn't stop laughing when mum told me. I've had that reaction from a lot of people about our wedding. I love seeing the look of shock on everyone's faces when I tell them those sorts of details. It just reassures me about the fact that I'm not going to have the typical magazine wedding and that makes me extremely happy. Sometimes I question myself- I see so many traditional details in our wedding that sometimes I forget that the overall picture is so unconventional in comparison to most people's idea of a wedding.

I've had to fight tooth & nail to get my way on a lot of things- my green shoes, the girls in tea length dresses, even the aquarium. But now that my family in particular has had a chance to get used to the ideas, they love them & they couldn't imagine me planning just your typical church & hotel wedding.

My mom first hated my ideas- "green shoes?! who in their right mind wears green shoes on their wedding day?" she said. Now she's sending me images of brides in colored shoes that she finds. "why can't you just wear pearls on your wedding day?" she asked when I told her I wanted emerald or peridot jewelry. Now she's in love with the idea. She's still not so keen on the girls in tea length dresses, but she's slowly coming to grips with it. Now that she's getting ready to come over next month, she's getting more accepting of my crazy ideas & becoming extremely excited about getting the ball rolling on a lot of this stuff. She can't wait to get stuck into some DIY projects and collecting some bits & pieces.

I think you are right on track the wedding will be beautiful and more importantly exactly what you want. Alot of us can totally get caught up in what everyone else wants and their opinions and you have to say "hang on a second, whos getting married?" I am shit sick of everyone having something to say about my wedding too no one has anything constructive or anyway nice to say so I wish they'd just shut up really. Thats my rant for today - Im a ray of sunshine the past few days with all the crap going on.

Don't you just love it when people start to talk about your wedding and they wonder how weird it's gonna be?  I've had a lot of "concerned" people who wanted to talk to me about my wedding and how they think it should go.  I told them what I planned on doing and I didn't want to change anything.  I didn't use any flowers.  My girls carried feather fans.  I just did a lot of things sooo different but soooo me!!!!!  When the wedding came around, everyone was pleasently surprised!  It's been two months now and people are still talking how beautiful the wedding was.

LOL, yeah some people just look at me weird because they don't understand our wedding much.  Thats fine with me.  It's about us not them.  Your wedding seems it will be sooo great!

Hey it's your day and its something you will remember for the rest of your life - if people don't like it then when they plan their weddings they don't have to do what you did, and if they had their wedding already then they had their chance to pick what they wanted.  If people don't like it they'll get over it - it's your wedding and about what you want - enjoy it and be as offbeat as you want I think it's great!!!
