Decoration
I'm feeling a need for VINTAGE!
No matter how hard I try, I cannot avoid my love and passion for vintage, and vintage styled things. I'm just drawn to it. I think it has something to do with my longing for the days when people had respect for themselves and each other, valued their families, men were men and women were women and life was simpler- the lines weren't as blurred as they are now. Everyone always says Chris and I were born in the wrong era.

I'm starting to think about how I want things laid out- what kind of decoration and set up I want. We're still in the early stages of planning, but I have a pretty good idea of what I want. I'm not happy with our venue situation at the moment, and i plan on renegotiating with them about things to get exactly what we want, or else we'll cut our losses & find somewhere else.

Before, I'd decided that I would use two or three different centerpieces on the tables. That was before I found out that most of our area is standing room only and we can only have a few seated tables out on the deck & garden area. Now that I know that, I'm starting to think that perhaps I could use a different centerpiece on each table, seeing as it'll all be fairly well spaced out, and it could give it a whimsical vintage feel.

I think we can string lanterns up in the deck area, so I'm thinking about perhaps doing that, OR stringing up mason jars with candles in them, though that might take a lot of work. Judy, my wedding planner really loves the idea of using sheet moss to cut out our initials and hang them from the doors. I found 2 bird themed wreath hangers in pier one that we could use for that.

We're thinking about doing a wish tree instead of a guestbook now- I'm thinking I'll cover the pot that holds the tree in vintage lace to add a touch of elegance to it. I found these cute antiqued brass bird charms on Etsy that we could hang from the tree to decorate it a bit before everyone starts hanging their wishes. The other thought I had was that perhaps, instead of using leaf shaped cut outs for the tree we could use birds, but I think I prefer the idea of the leaves.

I found some super cute vintage bird post cards that I think I could incorporate somewhere too. Not sure where yet. I talked to my FMIL tonight about digging up old family photos from everyone's wedding day so that I could use them to make the window frame photo frame to set up somewhere.

I still need to find 2 folding screens/dressing room screens to put up in front of the snake tanks otherwise my mother will take a heart attack. (she's horribly phobic of snakes)

I'm also loving the idea of using bird figurines & statues in amongst various areas of the decor. Some on the buffet tables/bar, some on the wish tree table, and maybe a few on the cake table..

I'm definitely wearing a fascinator of some kind, and I keep going back to my vintage/pinup girl style makeup. Still unsure about my hair and still undecided about the birdcage veil even though I do quite like them.

Even though I said i didn't want flowers, the more I think about it, I'm thinking perhaps I'd like a bouquet of soft, muted tones with feathers accenting it, instead of an all feather bouquet. I'm also thinking we can incorporate a few flowers here & there in the decor but not too many- after all, the area that we're having it in is pretty wild and has plenty of lush greenery & gardens.

any other ideas?

I hear you on the vintage stuff. Even a lot of the things in my house remind my friends of their grandmothers. lol. I just love the old fashioned stuff. And like you said.. when men were men and women were women and they were content with it!

OK I love your idea for the flower and feather boquet for you. One of my best friends is getting married and she loves butterflies. So we are doing center pices of a whispy grass with butterfly flowers (not many, sm budget) and then I put butterflies from the craft store on wire and they look like they are flying above the grass. I see that you like birds and vintage things so find some vintage looking birds and then do a birds nest with some feathers stcking out of it and then place the bird in the center with some votive candles around it. You could do different ones for each table. You can even put them on vintage cake plates to give them some height. I have a huge collection of vintage milk glass and I used some of the pices at my reception. I also did asked my guests to bring pics of them from their weddings and I created a guest book that I had bound and I listed their names, wedding date, and a wish. For all of my single friends we took their pic at the reception and put it in the book also with their wish. I still love going thru my book today.
