Chris works part-time at Best Buy and since we're currently sharing a car I just dropped him off at work about an hour ago. OMG!!! I realize black friday is a huge thing, but I've never really paid much attention to the crowds outside of BB before. The store's only just opened (like 5 minutes ago) and at 4am there was a line of at least 100 deep already! They had about 6 or 7 sales reps outside doing crowd control and passing out tickets (each customer is only allowed one purchase of every limited stock item- ie. they can't go and buy 5 of the same sale tv's) and they're only being allowed in the store using their tickets for the morning.
I really feel sorry for Chris today. He hates that job to begin with, but today's really going to be hell for him. Thankfully he opted not to stay on the sales floor but instead to do cashier for his department so while he'll be handling a higher volume of customers in comparison to his colleagues, he's better at doing on the spot selling for the credit cards, protection plans etc. in situations like this and he has a closing rate of nearly 90% on protection plans & credit cards- one of the highest in the store. He also has the shortest shift out of everyone in his department- he's working 7 hours while most of them are pulling 10-12 hour days today.
I'm meeting up with him, my mum & his mom this afternoon for lunch and a bit of shopping- hopefully the crowds will have eased up a bit by then. Main priorities are Old Navy & DSW- Chris and I both need some new clothes & shoes, and Michaels, AC Moore & Party City for me- I want to try and get some discount craft stuff to get set about some of our DIY projects. I really hate crowds. and I really hate shopping, but hopefully today'll be worth it.
