screw table runners- we're doing ribbons!

Originally, I was planning on having table runners. After all, you can get them for like $5/each and it's sort of whatever with me about them. I just don't want plain ivory linens. Then, looking through the Martha Stewart Weddings magazine yesterday, I noticed this photo and I LOVE it!!! It matches with my flower girl's basket & ringbearer's pillow almost perfectly and I could easily do this with various blue ribbons. Not to mention, I was already planning on doing long rectangular centerpieces so this should be pretty easy. The only thing I'm sort of wondering about is how to make sure the ribbons don't slide throughout the night- I'm thinking I'll probably put them together on my own dining room table, then glue the overlapping pieces together so that they don't fall off the table.

Now I just need to find various sizes & colors of ribbon that'll be long enough for the tables. (they'll probably need to be about 8-9 foot long) Anyone know where to get 25 yd rolls of ribbon?

This is a original idea!  Have you thought about Hobby Lobby,  Jo Ann's, or check on Ebay.

I just had an idea... what if you used the fabric tape...you know the double sided tape you use for bra straps and so on... I bet that would help stick to the fabric! Good Luck

Beautiful! I've seen this done before on a wedding show. I would use a heavy duty double sided tape (the same tape i used for my invitations)...much cleaner than glue. It'll look lovely ;)

You may have trouble with double sided tape ( the glue usually has trouble clinging firmly to ribbon (especially silk)), especially if you have people moving around on it (such as elbows sliding and ect.). My best bet would be to purchase fabric glue, or another option (if you don't mind the visual) is to "stab" into the fabric with brass fasteners (you purchase them at office type stores, they kinda look like a nail that has had the point flattened, you most often see them on elementary school art projects due to they allow paper to move (like a cut out wheel that is attached to a paper vehicle). All they require is the two flat ends to be spread and bent back to hold the materials in place).

Good Luck! I really love the look!
