Ask a Question
would this look okay shortened?

I've been desperately looking for a reception dress- preferably under $100 (considering I only paid $130 for my gown!!) and everything I like is waaaaay out of the price range I want to pay. I'm hitting the mall again tomorrow to see if there's anything I've missed on the sale racks but in the meantime, i figured I'd browse through the internet.

I stumbled across these two dresses at JC Penny- both are really cute and along the lines of what I'm looking for... except, I want the dress to be short. Whatever reception dress I buy, I'm planning on wearing it for the After party & the 2nd reception in England so I want it to be something comfortable and easy to move in.

What do you think the long one would look like if I had it shortened to about knee length? Do you think it would make it look cheap & tacky or do you think it could retain the elegant but sexy look of the gown?

If I went with the short one, I'd ask the seamstress to remove the straps and add some reinforcement through the bodice so that I could wear it strapless without worrying about it falling down. Spaghetti straps are so unflattering on me.

I think the long dress would look find shortened.. just make sure to get a good seamstress.. and just a thought.. the short one is way cute.. but it's a little more form fitting and by going strapless.. it might not be as comfy and easy to move around in.. I like the long dress shortened myself. :) GOod Luck!!

I agree with the two other girls- The longer one shortened i am sure with the right seamstress it will look gorgeous.

Hmmm, i'm not sure about shortening that dress...it may end up looking cheap..unless you have an amazing tailor, cause if you're gonna shorten it, you may have to make other alterations.

Do you have a store called Mendocino? I bought my after-party dress there for $90 - knee length, white, strapless sweetheart, sash along the waist, pleats in center and kinda squares out into the hidden side pockets...hard to describe, lol. I think you have to actually go out and start looking around rather than looking online.

Have you checked out this site...

how about this dress...

you can also get this dress in white, only $69..

I'll let you know if i come across anything else, but really the best thing is to actually shop around in your area. That's how i found my dress...i was getting really frustrated only looking online. Good luck!
