Ask a Question
Christmas Ornaments in September?
after a recent fiasco, it looks like we're planning this on A LOT less than we originally thought we were. It's looking more and more like we're going to be borrowing a friends backyard and putting up a tent. Good thing about a tent is that we can make it into whatever we want. We're having a cocktail party type reception with lots of appetizer style food, wine & beer. I'm planning on having tall cocktail tables around the dance floor, a couple larger 6-8 person tables, and I'm looking into the cost of renting a couple of sectional sofas & having a small lounge area.

So now I'm trying to come up with cheap & cheerful centerpieces & decorations without absolutely breaking the bank but keeping a very clean, modern & simple feel to the decor. Alternating ivory & navy blue linens, gold chivari chairs, various size chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling etc. I'm thinking of hanging some acrylic bead curtain around/behind the lounge & a friend of mine works in sound & lighting & has offered to try and get me some blue uplighting around the edges of the tent. I want two different centerpieces- I've already decided I want to do something small with flowers on the cocktail tables, but I need to come up with something for the larger tables & I noticed that Ikea sells sets of 12 plain christmas baubles for $3/set. I'm wondering if I stuck them in a vase and used a small LED to light up the vase, would it look too christmassy (my wedding's in september)? Any other ideas?

(btw, there wouldn't be any feathers involved, and the colors would be dark blue/navy & gold)

Guestlist...
Is it bad that I'm over the moon that we managed to cut a bunch of people off Chris' side of the guest list who I really can't stand? lol. I feel SO much more relieved knowing that they aren't even invited.

Wedding Cake
A few more ideas...
Since the cake I originally picked out (which I do still love dearly) isn't going to go with the theme or color scheme anymore, it's back to the drawing board for me! Looking at cakes was one of the things I hated doing the most when I first started looking for ideas- FH & I could NEVER agree on one. But now that there isn't any major theme, just a general color scheme, I have a lot more options.

One thing I always really liked was the cakes with ribbons & brooches. There's something so elegant about them. But then, I also really love the look of cakes covered in sugar crystals so that they shine & glitter. And I think it would be really cool to do a super modern/contemporary style cake with a cake stand made of frosted plexiglass & led's so that it glows.

(btw, any color on these, would be navy blue, ivory & gold)

I was looking around etsy for some unique ties for our boys to wear and I came across this super adorable green apple tie. I know a few of the green brides are incorporating apples, or using an apple green theme and wouldn't this just be so cool?! Anyway, you can order it from the seller Me & Matilda Everyday and it's $18.99 (plus shipping & handling) Even if you aren't an apple or damask bride, definitely have a browse through the shop- some of the stuff is so cute!

Reception Dress... I think I've picked one!
Since we changed our colors, I decided to look for a different reception dress that I can wear for the later part of the reception & the after party- God knows, I don't want to be fighting with a big full gown for the entire time! I decided something simple would work nicely with my jewelry & shoes and I LOVE this dress from the Dessy Collection/After Six Bridesmaids. The pleats in the skirt are adorable too- anyone who knows me, knows that most of my skirts are gently pleated skirts. And the best part- it's only about $130 or so, which means that the combined cost of both dresses STILL comes to less (only about $260 for both) than the cost that most people pay just for their wedding gown alone!

Which Shoes?
After reading everyone's responses about ioffer.com I'm seriously thinking about getting my shoes from there. However, I'm so indecisive when it comes to shoes so which ones should I go with? The only thing I'm a little apprehensive about is whether or not either of them will be too much with my outfit.

1. Gold Sequin Peeptoe Heels- I'd originally fallen in love with these when I saw the actual louboutins in the mall that were AMAZING! I love gold, sparkly and peeptoe and it's all of my favourite things combined.

2. Navy Blue Bow Peeptoe Heels- My colors are navy and ivory & I love the idea of having a splash of color under my dress.

and for reference, I've posted my dress, jewelry, sash, veil & fascinator.

Jewelry for the Bride
pearl choker with sapphire clasp
I'm having the hardest time finding the type of necklace i want for an affordable price! I'm not sure if anyone remembers it, but princess diana wore a seven strand pearl necklace with a sapphire center to an event at the white house back in the 90's and I've been in love with it ever since. I've always loved chokers, and I even have a 4 strand pearl choker that I could easily place a sapphire brooch onto if all else fails. I have found a replica of the actual necklace that comes in 2 versions. A seven strand version and a 4 strand version, both of which are lovely, but are over $150!! So, if anyone happens to come across one that's a reasonable price (ie. $25-50) or happens to come across a pretty oval sapphire & diamond brooch on their searches, remember me!

I do have to laugh though... my taste in jewelry does seem somewhat similar to the late princess' fashion- even my engagement ring is a miniature version of hers!

**EDIT** My mother's amazing!! She found it on a google search for $44.55 including matching earrings! She wants me to go ahead and order it & she's going to send me a cheque in my birthday card to cover the costs. I ♥ my mummy!!

Ask a Question
Has anyone used ioffer.com?
Sometime last year I came across a pair of gold sequinned louboutins that I was absolutely in love with! I wrote them off as something I'd never be able to afford seeing as the cost was nearly $1000 or something like that, but i was browsing around the net & stumbled across them on ioffer.com for $85. Now to some people that's not a lot of money, especially in comparison to the original cost. But I wanted to spend $50 or less on a pair of shoes for the wedding. The ONLY way I'll shell out $85 is if I'm genuinely getting a deal and not ripped off by them being fakes. I have a gut feeling that they probably are since I haven't read many good reviews about the site from buyers and its also frequently mentioned that there's no buyers protection if something is fraudulent.

so, has anyone bought anything off there? did it turn out to be a fake?

**edit- i should probably clarify that i realize that there's NO WAY i could get genuine louboutins for $85, but I guess what I'm asking is- are they good enough fakes to pass for the real thing?

Lighting & Centerpieces
Since the reception site is already really pretty and decorated to begin with, it doesn't need much to finish it all off for a wedding. I was talking with a friend of mine who works in stage lighting & sound production, and he had a look at the photos of the room to see if he could do anything with it since there's really no need to go over the top about decor. He noticed they have a fiber-optic ceiling in the private room... something I was totally oblivious about!! He wants to use that, dim the spotlights that they have on the paintings and use blue uplighters to create a more trendy, but cozy atmosphere in the room. I'm totally loving the idea and he says he can get us a great deal on it!

Him & I decided that little candle centerpieces would be more than appropriate for the tables- the tables only seat 4 people each, so there's not much room for great big centerpieces. I did a bit of looking around and found these super cute wineglass lampshades on save-on-crafts.com, as well as directions for how the make them from vellum paper yourself. They look like mini lamps and they'll be super cheap & easy to make, especially seeing as I could probably just borrow the wine glasses from the venue. I love how modern they look.

We also decided to go to the linens rental place around here one day and see what the buffet tables would look like if we used a crushed navy colored shimmer linen over a champagne or ivory lamour table cloth. We're also going to look at using a navy lamour cloth with a gold organza overlay to see which one we like more. We're also trying to decide whether or not to incorporate lighting into the decor for the table using either fairy lights or LED's.

I still need to figure out if there will even be enough room for dancing or not- I'm sort of leaning towards not even bothering with a DJ anymore and just loading an ipod up with some of the music we like & having the place play that through the speakers for the duration of the reception. I'm not much of a fan of dancing, but I know Chris wants to at least have a first dance & I don't think my dad really cares one way or the other if we do a father/daughter dance.

I'm now a Blue Bride!!
I had to change the girl's colors...
Long story short, I thought i'd picked my color for their dresses. I'd told them to go with any dress they wanted from Mori Lee so long as it was chiffon, knee to tea length, and in Patina green. One of my bridesmaids comes back to me last weekend and tells me that at the two stores she went to, the Patina color they showed her was more of a clover/grass green. I was confused- the bridal store I went to in town showed me a pretty, darkish green shade- like a dark emerald and it was beautiful. Come to find out today while looking around at dresses with another one of my bridesmaids that the first bridesmaid was correct- it is indeed a grassy, clover green. It's the darkest shade of green that Mori Lee offers in chiffon & none of the girls are willing to wear it. Which is fair enough, even I think it's putrid. We finally figured out that the color they'd shown me and had claimed was a Mori Lee dress, was obviously by another designer and the shop assistant had made a mistake. Since there's really no other dresses that both me & the girls like, we didn't want to have to go with another designer so we decided to change the colors of the wedding and go with Navy Blue & Ivory instead! lol.

I was starting to question having a green colored wedding anyway- as beautiful as it is, and as much as I love the color (emerald green is my favourite color besides black), it's very hard to find somewhere around here that the green won't totally clash with without it being in a tent, or a solid white room. Not to mention, after taking FH to the Oxford last night for a few drinks & late night snacks, he's head over heels in love with the place and definitely wants to do the reception there. Since the color scheme of the Oxford is mostly cream, burgundy, dark brown & black, I'm afraid the girls in green would clash, rather than compliment the place. Oxford University's school colors are navy, and navy is a pretty easy color to wear for the majority of people- especially my girls seeing as they're all dark haired, with hazel, brown & green eyes & they're all medium-fair skinned, so navy should compliment their skin tones nicely. It's also dark without being black since I promised my grandmother I wouldn't put the girls in black dresses. Chris doesn't care one way or the other about the colors... it's just going to turn out to be a very patriotic looking wedding with Union Jacks & St. Andrews Crosses a-flying, and the colors being red, white & blue. lmao!! At least both of my countries share the same colors!
