DIY Wedding
A few more new ones
okay, they're not really new ones... they've been done for a while, but I haven't bothered taking photos of them. Thanks for the compliments on the last DIY post I put together! The topiary cost about $37 to make- $25 worth of flowers, $4 worth of stones (Each one lovingly hot glued on!) $1 pot, $1 floral foam (under the stones to keep it from wobbling), $4 floral foam (for the ball part) $2 dowel. When I asked about it at the florist, they quoted me $70 for one! It's not exactly level because the bottom of the tin pot isn't level and I can't figure out how to flatten it but it's okay. It doesn't wobble *too* much. and I found the LOVE letters in AC moore on sale for $2 with a coupon. I sprayed it with glue and shook glitter all over it. lol. I'm not really sure where these are going to go yet- probably next to the guestbook. |

Wedding Hair Style
gotta look for ideas!
I thought I pretty much knew exactly what I wanted, but I got a phone call tonight from one of the stylists a friend of mine knows who wants to meet up sometime so he can get a feel for my hair and decide if he can do it for the wedding or not. Sunday, I have another friend of mine who's in cosmetology school coming over to play with it and do some trial runs to see if she's good enough for me (not being mean, but she is still a student without too much practice) and after I've had both of them do trials, I'll decide who to go with. I'm super fussy about my hair- not against anyone doing it, but I know there aren't many people who are prepared to work with my hair and do everything necessary to make sure it holds. I have extremely heavy, extremely thick, long, fine hair. People look at it and assume its just average- it isn't until they start working with it that they realize there's just more and more of it. lol. I really want a mass of soft, loose, curls on the crown, but when I look at bridal updo's they all look so overly-formal, stiff and really just not flattering on 90% of people. And they're not particularly fun either. No offense to anyone but I've never been that type of person. I can't wait to see what each of them comes up with. These are my current ideas.. |

DIY Wedding
My most recent DIY's!
I've been super slack about posting my DIY's- I always forget to photograph them and then I end up putting them away and forgetting that I never took a picture of them! Anyway, the past week or two, I've been working on a few things for the wedding. I had 2 random rectangle vases that I had no clue what to do with (they were originally for centerpieces until I changed my mind on those) so I decided to fill them with dark pink silk tulips I found on sale in Michaels for $3 a bundle (2 bundles a vase). The flower girl's basket has been done for a while, I just needed to get around to filling it with pink flowers- I decided to go with dark pink carnations since they're a pretty good filler flower & the silk roses I wanted were more expensive than I was willing to pay. It won't match exactly but I'm not too worried about that. The toss bouquet was already assembled, I just did the bouquet wrap on it. It doesn't really match ANYTHING in the wedding, but I figure that doesn't matter too much- it's just for the bouquet toss. When I get around to it, I'll post pictures of the Card Box, the jewelry boxes for the BM's gifts, the spray painted branches we're using for the altar decorations, and the floral topiary for the guestbook table. |

Wedding Decoration
Altar decorations- $50 for the whole thing!
yesterday I went into Marshall's not really looking for anything in particular- I was just in the area and figured I might as well. In the back where they keep all the homewares stuff they had loads of vases- many, many more than usual and in amongst these gems were the diamonds in the rough. They had 5 extra large vases that were about 3 feet tall sitting there for $17 each! If they'd had 8, I would've bought them all and used them for the aisle & centerpiece decorations, but there was no guarantee that the marshalls on the other side of town would also have them, so I opted to just buy 2 and use them for the altar decorations to save Chris from having to make the filigree pedestal boxes I wanted (even though, they could go on the pedestals if he ever gets around to making them). Got away with them for $34 total (or something like that... I don't remember the exact price) so I hopped across the road and went to michaels since I needed to get the bridesmaids flipflops. While I was there I decided to have a look around and see what I could use in these vases. The original plan had been to have the filigree boxes with large manzanita trees on them all decked out in crystals & flowers. The manzanita trees in michael's were less than appealing- all broken up and falling apart. I settled on some 6ft bundles of twisted willow that I'm going to spray paint silver & string battery operated fairy lights through them. If I can find them, I'm going to fill the vases with silver christmas baubles too and after the ceremony's finished, the vases will be moved to either side of the bar as decoration. By the time I'm done, I'm hoping they'll be about 8 or 9 feet tall! |

Kids!
a few things to keep them busy
We're not actually encouraging kids to come to the wedding, but we do have a ringbearer who'll be 7 at the time and a flowergirl who'll be 5. I know that kids get bored easily -especially the flowergirl who can be one hell of a little diva!- so I decided to put together activity packs to keep them entertained as well as their gifts. (I got them each a webkinz toy as their gift) I'm sure they'll have more than enough to do during the reception, but just in case (and mostly for the toasts & dances) I thought they might like to sit down and color or something to keep them quiet. IF by some chance we do end up having other kids there unexpectedly (aka- when the RSVPs come back) then I'll run out to walmart and buy another coloring book & crayons for them too, but at the most there should only be about 5 kids coming (including RB & FG) in the RB & FG's packages theres a coloring book, crayons, a notebook, crazy straws, & slinkies. I got everything except the coloring books from party city. The books were at walmart for $1 each. |

Bridesmaids
Just a few of their gifts
Over the past week or so I've been collecting random pieces from the dollar sections of stores- mostly michaels. I figured I'd throw this stuff in with their presents since it didn't cost me much to buy their necklace sets & since someone else was interested in the necklaces I'd made them, I'm just going to sell those onto her and if I have time to, I'll make them new [nicer] ones. All this stuff was from Michaels: flip flops: $0.40 each bath salts: $1 each frame, candle & wine charms: $1 each. |

Wedding Dress
I bought my BLUE shoes!
I had originally bought a silver pair from Davids Bridal for my engagement party that I intended to wear for the wedding, but they're so agonizingly painful that even trying to break them in by wearing them around the house makes me nearly scream. I've only worn them out once and I was pretty much crippled after an hour or two- I didn't even wear them for more than an hour at our party. They're very pretty and I do like them but I can't wear them no matter how hard I try. So walking around DSW today looking for a pair of FLATS, I check in the sales/clearance section and there are these shoes- Marked for $59.99 but had a 30% markdown from the sticker price. Funny story about these shoes- My bridesmaids were actually supposed to wear the lower heel version of them with their dresses. They all pitched a fit and said they hated them, couldn't justify spending more than $30 on a pair of shoes and point blank wouldn't wear them. I had originally intended to get these same ones (with the higher heel) in ivory so that we all had the same shoes. When they wouldn't wear them, I scrapped that idea. I wasn't THAT in love with them. But finding them in the clearance aisle, and they fit perfectly, were so much more comfortable than the silver things from DB's I decided that I must have them. Especially since I need to start going for fittings soon. And when I got to the check out- they were originally marked for over $80. I paid all of $43!! that's nearly half price from their original costs! I can't even find the navy ones online anymore. Unfortunately, I was blown off cloud 9 when I called my mother to gush about how amazing these shoes are and how I got them for a steal of a price. I start telling her about them and she flips out. BLUE SHOES?! ARE YOU KIDDING?! ugh. I could hear the distain in her voice. She hates the idea. She doesn't hate the shoes themselves. But she hates the idea of wearing anything other than ivory, silver or gold shoes under a wedding dress and thinks it "lowers the tone" oh well! I love them. And I'm wearing them. At least I'm not dying my crinoline too like I'd originally planned on doing and the shoes will go with the navy sash on my dress & the sapphire jewelry I'm wearing. I don't see what her big deal is about it but whatever- they make me happy! |

Market Place
$3 satin table runners @ efavormart.com!!
After reading some reviews from the ladies on here who've used efavormart.com I went ahead and bought the table runners for the guest tables and an overlay for the cake table- they'll all be navy blue satin. And they were a STEAL! $25 for 5 runners, 1 60x60 overlay and shipping! I haven't seen them that cheap ANYWHERE and to rent them would've cost at least double that! yay! I'm excited- can't wait for them to arrive so I can test them out with the centerpieces. |

SO GIDDY!!
Just bought one of FH's presents!
It's such a silly thing to be giddy over, but I just bought FH's tie! We've been arguing back and forth about it, and everyone's told him he shouldn't have it because it doesn't really go with anything else in the wedding so he finally gave up defending himself and agreed that he'd just wear a plain tie instead. However, since he's been so desperate for it I decided to go ahead and order it & I'm going to give it to him the morning of the wedding so he can wear it if he wants to. It's one of the few things he's really, really wanted in the wedding & so long as he keeps his jacket buttoned up during the ceremony no one should get upset about it, imo. I hope he'll be thrilled when he sees it! (btw- it's from cyberoptix.com... also known as toybreaker on etsy) |

Inspiration Board
Just a few updated boards
one of my FMIL's friends may be designing our programs and other stationery (other than the invitations which I've already bought) so I put together a few different boards to email her so she can get an idea of the feel of the wedding. These are the ones I threw together quickly tonight.
