Wedding Photography
BONUS!
If you read my previous post you'll find out that I spilled the beans to a close friend of mine the other day. Besides being beside herself with excitement, she also offered to do our engagement shoot for free. She's a professional photographer who has shot for Fashion Magazine, Fashion Weekly, Toronto Fashion Week and many designers/actors around the city. She is insanely talented and I don't want to know how much she would normally charge, so I need to find some super kickass present for her. I would love love love for her to shoot the ceremony and reception, but because she is one of my closest friends I want her to be able to eat and drink and dance and not have to worry about shooting. She said she would put together a list of photographers she knows that she could recommend and maybe even give us a discount on the package, as a favour to her.
I love her so much and here comes the best part...her boyfriend is a florist who can probably do our flowers at cost!!!! Oh god do I love them. We still need to sit down and talk about everything, but I am so pumped for this. I think that whatever the flower cost comes to we would probably add $100 or more as a sort of thank you to her boyfriend for doing them. The hall we are considering provides the centrepieces so we would only need bouquets and boutonnieres and maybe a couple decor pieces. I can't wait!!! ***you can check out Ang's work at www.aymphotography.com but she has asked me to state that she does not do weddings at this time. Thanks!!! |

Wedding Invitation
Phone in Responses and Samples!
I am slowly crawling my way back to humanity after battling a rediculous cold that has been kicking my butt the past week. The good thing is that while lying on the couch, covered in tissues, I've been able to research a ton of wedding stuff.
I ordered a couple of free sample invitations from seal-n-send.com (I can only upload this one for some reason, but it was my favourite anyways). So you can see in the photo that the response card is attached at the bottom of the invitation and our address would be on the back. I think if I put a stamp on the address side of the response card then the guests can just pop that in the mail without an envelope. We were also thinking of adding at the bottom of the invitation something about RSVPing by phone (with our number), online (with the website i have yet to make) or by sending this card in. A lot of our guests are young (20's) and I think would appreciate being able to email or call their response in incase they "lose" the response card. Or am I just asking for trouble by giving people 3 ways to respond? The other option that we thought of (because we are cheap and eco-conscious) is calling our guests up and personally inviting them. While on the phone we could actually catch up with some people we haven't talked to in awhile and answer any questions they might have. We could give them our website that would have all the normal wedding info stuff (date, time, maps, etc) and an online RSVP function. Our thought is that most people these days are pretty tech savvy and for people like grandparents or older relatives we would do traditional paper invites. We are literally months and months away from needing to send these out, but I like to have things decided early because you never know what will come up. |

Ceremony
Toronto Wedding Chapel!
Being a non-religious couple we knew that we would have to find a space for the ceremony that wasn't a church, but had a little more personality than your average hall. We were also looking for a place where we wouldn't have to worry about decorating it or setting anything up.
Through my many google searches along came the Toronto Wedding Chapel located at Yonge/Eglinton. We went there yesterday to check it out and the pictures online really don't do the space justice. It's been decorated in soft white fabrics, cool greens, hardwood floors and really exudes a relaxed, zen-like vibe. Perfect for what we wanted. Not to mention that Katherine the coordinator is extremely nice, personable and wasn't at all pushy like some wedding industry folk we've talked to. I can't wait to walk down the aisle here, it felt like a perfect fit yesterday. |

Wedding Dress
Red Wedding Dress? I must be CRAZY!
So despite not having a job, Jeff and I had a great talk last night about sticking our chins up and continuing with our plans. I know we'll make it through ok, our bank accounts might not but we have the rest of our lives to build them up again. We were on a tight budget before and now it's even tighter. To escape the nervousness I've been kicking around online and I think I've had a WBC overdose because I am now considering a red wedding dress.
Jeff and I live together so no one in my family is confused about my virginal status and red is just so DIFFERENT. It'll definitely make an impact. I've known for a long time that I've wanted a short, tighter dress as opposed to a big gown. And I would keep the accessories (shoes, bouquet and birdcage veil) white. So what do you think?? Am I crazy? I think I'm crazy. ***UPDATE*** My mother wasn't too pleased with the red dress idea. And even though this is my wedding, I do need to respect some of her wishes and this was a big one. |

SERIOUSLY?!?
No More Job...
On my way to work yesterday I found out that as of June 28th I will be out of a job. I work in the freelance theatre industry and have been working on the same show since October 2008 and now we are closing. Normally I would just be able to head out and pick up work as it came along but with the economy the way it is I have heard from the guys I work with that there is absolutely no work out there. I am crushed. Rumour had it our show would go until at least Labour Day. I don't know what to do. It kinda seems like it would be silly to go spend money on a wedding when I don't know when more money will be coming in. I am so bummed out right now that I am going to go eat ice cream for breakfast. That will probably make it better.

Wedding Reception
BUST!
So the first venue we checked out for the reception was a huge bust. I don't understand why someone would tell you something was possible and would be a certain way when they know you're actually gonna see the venue and realize it's different. Oh well.
On the advice of another bride on here we are going to check out Carmen's Banquet Hall. Again, it looks a little too good to be true on their website. I mean, I've never really heard of a hall including decor options for you to pick from. Has anyone ever been to a reception at Carmen's or planning to have their wedding there?? THANKS! |

Wedding Flowers
bouquet! bouquet! bouquet!
for now, i have decided to focus my energies on flowers. i need to talk to the moms about whether they want corsages (i kinda hope not because i hate wrist corsages). if we decide to do a reception at a restaurant (which we are seeing tonight), then we probably won't even need centrepieces! yay for saving money!!!
1.) peony bouquet...i love this one the most. i am looking for something simple, soft and beautiful. all accomplished by these beautiful flowers. does anyone know how much peonies are? 2.) gerber bouquet...again, very simple and gerbers are so cheerful. 3.) daisy bouquet...i think if you make the bouquet really full then they don't look like cheap little daisies. plus daisies remind me of summer and i think they're pretty inexpensive. 4.) carnation bouquet...normally i am not a fan of carnations, but i was pleasantly surprised when i saw this bouquet. it has that softness that i was looking for because the edges of carnations are a bit ruffled. one of my best friends moms is a florist, though she lives over an hour away, i am definitely going to ask her advice on cost and stuff. if she is willing i would love for her to do the bouquet, then my parents can pick it up from her before they drive up for the wedding. does anyone else know any cheaper white flowers i could use for a bouquet???? |

How we met
a drunken encounter...for the rest of my life :)
The boy and I have been together 3 years now and it was a fight to get to this point. There were many times when it would have been easier to let it go and say goodbye, but we fought (damn hard) to make it work. Now being a year away from spending the rest of my life with him I can see that when you know in your heart that something is worth fighting for, nothing can make you stop.
Christmas of 2006 me and a bunch of friends (mainly guys) went to another friends house for a Christmas party. I had just broken up with my boyfriend the day before (my friends and I refer to him as CrazyFace if that gives you any indication of what he was like), and I decided that I was going to kiss the cutest guy at the party. That decision was totally out of character for me as I am usually very shy, but I decided that I needed to bust out of my shell and get kissed. When we got to the party I started my hunt and as I went down the stairs to the basement I saw Jeff standing there, by far the hottest guy in the place, and he was talking to my friend Angie. In any other case I would have let her have him, but not this time. I managed to work my way into the conversation and slowly pushed her out. Again, TOTALLY out of character for me. I think she saw where I was going, so Angie gave me a little wink and left Jeff and I there to get to know each other. We spent hours at that party talking and laughing and it was so easy to carry a conversation with him. It felt so natural to stand by his side and look up into his gorgeous hazel eyes. Well, hours passed and we were both tipsy and I was ready to get kissed by this handsome stranger, but to no avail he just wasn't getting the hint. I had given up hope when we were standing in a doorway and all of a sudden he swooped down (he's 6'1" and I'm 5'5") and planted one of me. I swear I saw fireworks. We spent a bit more of the party kissin and my friends had to drag me out of the house at the end of the night. I had given him my email, but never really expected to hear from him again because the very next day he was leaving to go back to University in Oshawa and I lived in the Niagara Region, which are about 3 hrs apart. TO BE CONTINUED... |

Ask a Question
Brand Spankin' New!
I'm poppin my bloggin cherry with a desperate cry for help...
Basically, we're trying to have a wedding for approximately 100 people, under $10,000 and the most important things to us are food and alcohol (coincidentally the 2 things that drive up wedding costs). I'm wondering if any brides in the Toronto area have any super secret awesome reception venues that don't cost an arm and a leg. We're very open and have been looking into restaurants and bars as alternatives to traditional banquet halls. The other issue is having the actual ceremony at the same site as the reception. Neither one of us is religious so a church/chapel is out of the question. Do I sound desperate yet? I know I have a year to get all this straightened out but I like to see little check marks on my to do list...and this is a mother of a to do list. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |
