Ask a Question
Receiving Line or Bride & Groom usher guests out pew by pew??
I have seen both done - I'd just like to see what everyone's opinion is from a bride & guest point of view. As a guest, it kind of sucks either way because your either waiting in your pew/chair, or standing in line....just not sure which way to go with it! If we went with a receiving line, I wouldn't make the bridal party stand there since they won't know many of the guests. What are you doing for yours?

We decided to have our receiving line right outside the venue in a nice spot under the shade of a big tree. That way as each guest comes outside they can come and chat for a minute with us.  We decided to go with the traditional receiving line as it is much shorter than the one's I have been to over the years.

Who Stands in the Receiving Line?
According to traditional etiquette, the order of the traditional, and most formal receiving line is as follows:
Mother of the Bride
Mother of the Groom
Bride
Groom
Maid of Honor
All of the Bridesmaids
Traditionally, no men stand in the receiving line, except for the groom, of course. Child attendants also do not participate in the receiving line.

We didn't do a recieving line. Some people just came up for hug and kisses at the end of the ceremony, but we encouraged to go right over to the reception for appetizer/cocktail hour. They were all seated by the time we got to the reception. Many came up to the head table during dinner. That's how we got all of our hello's and thanks for coming done. Then you just mingle during the reception.... :)

I think it depends how many guests you have. We are not doing it for our wedding. 300 guests! Too much time!

Have fun in Fenton ;) That's my hometown. Drop by Slingers off highway 30 while you're there. That's my PLACE!!
