$500 for pretty moving lights for dancing. Waste of money or must have?
So, we booked our DJ a couple of weeks ago, but now I'm rethinking about the whole thing. $1700 for a DJ, is that even normal?? My fiance and I both like him a lot, but now I think it's too much for a DJ. I was prepared to spend a lot on a photographer and the least on DJ. When I said the least, I was only thinking 500-700 top.

Now, my package comes with the DJ service and 4 decor lights (which I'd have in tiff blue!), and I'm paying $500 extra for a package that consists of 4 more decor lights and 2 moving lights. Should I even bother?? At first I thought, who wouldn't love dancing under pretty moving lights?! but now that I think about it, I've only been to a couple of weddings that use moving lights. Is it a waste of money? or is it a must have?

we are paying about 1200 for the basic package... which is having them there from 9-1... i agree they are expensive and when i was planning i didnt think i would be that much. if you want cheaper but still kinda professional.... look into people just starting out or that do it on the side.... then you might be able to find it for 500..... good luck with whatever you choose

We must have gotten really lucky because in all my DJ search I never found anyone over $1000 in my area... So IDK it sounds a pricey to me... good luck!

Ours was $1,095.00. They did the ceremony music 4:30 to 5:30, and reception until 11pm, moving lights were included and they thew in pink uplighting for free too (but nothing is free, I'm sure it's worked into the price). The uplighting was the selling factor for us, the hubby had to have it after he saw it on Who's Wedding Is It Anyway (love that show)!

And so you feel better, our guy was one of the cheaper ones! One DJ we met at a Bridal Bazar said $2,500.00 flat rate, plus OR MINUS anything....we were like...SEE YA!!

I think that is a little much for a DJ, I think you could either talk him down (I did this with our DJ and got $300 knock off for the same package by telling him I was looking into other DJ's who offered the same thing, but for less) or keep looking around just in case, but that is just me - I'm stubborn! lol, good luck!

Thanks hun :-)
And personally...That is WAY too much money for a DJ! HOLY MOLY!!!!! The gal we are getting is like 475 for 6 hours!  Keep looking hun! I think lights would be distracting...Unless your planning on partying hard! Haha

Nope, no partying too hard.  A lot of old people and a lot of our friends have kids, and we're inviting all the kids, so I want it to be more family oriented but still get people on the dance floor!

And I think I wasn't being clear... the 1700 includes the 500 for extra lighting.  So, after reading your responses, I think that I'm gonna cancel those lights and still use his service, which is 1200.  I need someone to get the old people on the dance floor, and I think that he is just the guy!  Oh Alybrand, girl I should've talked to you first before I booked him!  or better yet, I should've got YOU to talk to him!!  I want $300 off too!
