Tuxes... - Check!

So today we went and finalized a selection for tuxes. Erik and his brother/best man went to a couple stores the other day and we narrowed it down to the Black Tie shop to get them at. Erik will have a three button tux with an ivory shirt and black tie like in the picture. The dads will wear the same thing. The best man/groomsmen/ring bearer will wear a black tux, pink tie (we found a color that matches the bridesmaid dresses perfectly!), and ivory shirt. I'm really excited that we finally picked this all out. Now the guys just have to get measured and we'll be good to go!

So as we all often do, I was envisioning the wedding and I think I am going to feel really awkward about being the center of attention at the wedding and my shower too. Does anyone else feel a bit of anxiety about having all eyes on you? For anyone who won't, any advice?

Yesterday at Christmas we asked Erik's two cousins, Zack and Margaret, to be ushers at the wedding. I also asked my cousin Sandy to be one of the readers in the wedding. My cousin was telling me they have 6 weddings to go to this year! And most of them they'll have to travel to get to. What's the most amount of weddings you've been to in a year? Most of my friends are not getting married or aren't even engaged yet...does anyone have a large amount of friends/family getting engaged all at once?

So according to The Knot checklist, I'm supposed to be considering how I'd like to wear my hair for the wedding. I definitely want to wear my hair down. I look weird in updos and rarely wear my hair up. Plus I'm trying to grow it long so I can have that pretty long, curled look. I've found some pictures. Does anyone else have good pictures of wedding hair down and curly? Also...any good tips for getting your hair to grow long? Mine seems to be staying at one length...it's kinda frustrating!

1. Meet/talk with caterer to determine what else we need to decide on: linens, cake, etc. 2. Find my veil, shoes, and jewelry. 3. Find jewelry and shoes for the girls. 4. Erik and his bro need to go out looking for tuxes. 5. Figure out what we'll need to show a video. 6. Proof the invitation when it gets sent to us. 7. Figure out ceremony/reception music! 8. Update our registry...when we figure out colors for bathroom/bedroom. I feel like there was more I've been thinking about....probably be adding to this list. Anyone else get socked with snow today? It was horrible around here. My FI pulled over and is spending the night at a hotel after being in the car for 5 hours! My aunt and a friend of my mom's and mine is planning my shower! They picked the date for March 29th. We're going to have it at the Fireside room at my church. I talked to my MOH, Gina, and apparently she might be planning a little something too. That stuff will be really fun. I just hope my friends will be able to come....a lot of people live out of town (1 1/2 away) or further. Crossing my fingers!

I knew it was going to be within the next couple months. He did it on a Sunday evening totally out of the blue though so it was really surprising because of the timing. Do you wish you had a bigger/smaller diamond? If so How big or small? I really love my ring. I think the wedding band will add to it a lot though it's beautiful on its own. I'll have just over 1 carat with the band and I think it's perfect. Did you cry when he proposed? No, I just got really excited and smiled a ton. Was the proposal romantic or creative? Invitation - Etiquette in Wording?

Okay, so if anyone knows the answer to this, I'd really appreciate it. My parents are pretty much paying for the wedding but Erik's parents are obviously helping out as well. Should the wording of the invitations reflect this. For example, could we use something like this: We have experienced love... in our parents, families and friends and now a new love in each other Together with our parents, we Insert Name and Insert Name invite you to share with us a celebration of love The ceremony will be held at 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, June twentieth two thousand nine insert Place of Ceremony Or should does that sound like we're hosting the wedding? Should we just stick with the more traditional Mr. and Mrs. so and so would be honored with your presence for the marriage of their daughter, etc. etc.? What do you think? I'm just trying to find something a little more interesting than the standard wording.

So today we took on the task of looking at invitations. We heard about this place near where we live called The Perfect Invitation. We went there and after a long time of looking through massive books, we found a winner. Our goal was elegant, simple, and cheap! Luckily the lady was not pushy at all and helped us find something great in our price range. I don't have a picture but maybe when we get the proof I can post something. They're sort of a beige-ish color with a little design on the bottom. They fold out and have a bow at the top. Now it's just figuring out the wording and everything...it's quite a process!

I really like this invitation. The price of it is kinda crazy though. I haven't really done too much looking into invitations. What are you all paying for yours? For this one in particular there were like different prices to add on things like a response card or envelopes. It seemed like it would be really expensive. Just wondering what you all are paying. Also, are you getting them online or through a shop or local business? With eight months to go I've got to start really looking into invitations! Let me know your opinions!

I brought the one of the dresses down for one of my bridesmaids Katie who's here with me at school....that's her in the dress! I thought it looked adorable on her. Honeymoon - Booked Today!

So tonight I found out that my flute teacher, Kim, is able to come/play at my wedding. Kim is an amazing flutist and an amazing teacher. I'm so honored that she will be able to play. I think I will also have my good friend Christa play flute as well. I'm thinking maybe they could play the Flower duet at some point in the ceremony. This music stuff is going to be a real thought process for me. You'd think it'd be easy since I'm a musician, but alas, no. I'm just psyched they can play. My bridesmaid, Katie, will also be singing (she's also a flutist too). I love having musical friends. I'm so excited!

So I've seen a tooooon of posts here about boudoir pictures lately. It's definitely the latest trend. I'm not trying to offend anyone, so please don't take offense! I'm just stating my opinion. Does anyone else shudder at the idea of taking pictures like this? Personally, I can't imagine having these kind of pictures around my home...and if anyone but my FH ever saw them! Geesh. I'm so excited! Our magnets came on Friday. Since I'm actually home from school this weekend, it was crappy weather, and I had a cold, we got a chance to sit down and get most of them addressed! Now we've just got to get stamps and send em' on out! They turned out really cute and I'm very happy with them. The design we created is in one of my previous posts and then magnetstreet.com put them on magnets and sent us the envelopes too! I can't wait to send them out. It really seems official once you send something out with the date on it. I can't wait for everyone to see them!

Music Selections! - For Bridal Party Entrance and Our Entrance!

So since I'm unable to do a lot of wedding stuff right now I thought I'd blog about the music choice Erik and I have made for entrances into the reception. The bridal party will come into Van Halen's "Right Now" and we'll follow it up with "Jump". I think it'll really get the crowd going and hopefully put a smile on their faces. In other news...we made our Save the Date magnet fit MagnetStreet.com's requirements for custom made magnets. We sent it in so hopefully someone will be looking at it to make sure it works within a few days. I hope it does because Erik's spent hours working on these on photoshop and I know he just wants it to be done. Hope everyone's planning is going well!

Wow, can't believe I haven't updated in about two weeks. I moved down to school shortly after my last post and things have been crazy since. I've had marching band and school taking over my life (as predicted). I'm wondering how this year is going to go with school/student teaching and wedding planning all thrown in the mix. It should be a crazy but exciting year. We're currently having save the date issues. Erik and I created awesome save the dates (below post) but they aren't printing off the computer onto the magnets right. So now we're looking into getting them online. There was a magnet that I really liked that looked just like the one we re-created. I can't find it on magnetstreet.com now though so I'm kinda disappointed. Currently I'm trying to figure out which one to use and how it's going to get paid for (not sure whether my mom's going to help/pay for it). I really want to get things rolling with our honeymoon plans too but it's so hard with school going on. I kinda gave the job to Erik though so hopefully he'll give our travel agent a call (who's been sending us tons of information). Arg, once it's under a year you just really feel pressure to get it all done. It's frustrating when I can't do things as quickly as I'd like.

Groom's Cake - A record!

Erik told me awhile ago that he'd like to have a record cake for his groom's cake. He's huge into collecting records and he currently has three turntables...quite the aspiring DJ...haha. Anyway, the center would say something like "Stef and Erik Forever" or something cheesy like that. I think it's a cute idea though and completely fitting for him. Now figuring out how to make one or where to have one made is the next question...

So this is definitely a complaining post. Sorry, I just need to rant. First of all I'm going back to college on Saturday. I know once I get back down there it'll be fine but right now I'm dreading having to do school again and also putting wedding planning on hold. The thing is, I'm in my fifth year now...I have one more semester and then student teaching and I just want to be done. I'm having that itch to finally get my bachelor's degree! I'm going to try hard to keep planning while I'm at school but I'm afraid of getting behind! Anyone else in a similar situation? Secondly, Erik's been looking for a job this whole summer and hasn't found anything. He was trying to look in central Illinois because I'd like to go back to grad. school at ISU after I finish my undergrad. I want to do this because I can get a great assistantship and I'd like to continue my schooling. I'd really like to go to ISU too because I'm almost guaranteed the assistantship and I love the school. I could audition elsewhere but it will take a lot of time and there aren't really any schools near Chicago that I want to go to. Anyway, central Illinois has been unsuccessful for him so far so now he's talking about looking more in Chicago again. That's fine but I'm just afraid he'll get one up here and then we'll have to make a decision on where to live and I'll have to give up going to grad. school (which I've been planning on for months). Why does everything have to be so complicated? I'm really hoping he finds a good job in central Illinois! So sorry about my ranting. Just needed a moment!

Save the Dates - Almost there...

So we finished designing our Save the Dates this evening. There's two on the picture because we're attempting to print out two on the same page at a time. Unfortunately it was going too well...my printer decided to be stupid and print everything except there part that says the date. We tried everything in the book but no luck getting it to work. We're either going to try it on another printer or take it to Kinkos. I think they turned out pretty cute though...my FH is pretty good with photoshop! I just hope we can get them printed out. Then getting addresses will be a whole new project...haha. P.S. Thanks to kelleeleee for the inspiration for this Save the Date!

Reception - The Food!

We're paying quite a bit for our catering package but I feel it includes a lot. In our package we get: 1. Choice of 3 hors d'oeuvres 2. Salad or soup 3. Assortment of Euro breads and sweet butter 4. Obviously the meal! 5. Champagne Toast 6. Custom Wedding Cake 7. Gourmet Cookie and Coffee Station 8. Complimentary Dinners for Bride and Groom 9. Linens and Napkins 10. Table Settings 11. Party Manager and all service personnel. Pretty good deal, eh? We chose a Bistro Style Chicken for the main course (and a portobello option for the vegetarians of course) and a bistro salad. I don't remember which of the hors d'oeuvres we chose but they were amazing at the tasting!

Remembrance Roses - For those who have passed on...

My grandfather is currently in the process of passing away. He had a stroke about a week and a half ago and within the next week or so will probably pass away. I lost my other two grandparents when I was younger and my grandma who is still alive is very frail as well. I now face the possibility of maybe having none of my grandparents at my wedding. We will be having roses on the alter at our church to represent them in the service. We will take them along to the reception as well. Is anyone else doing something in their service to remember those who won't be there? I'd like to hear other people's ideas.

So in the past few days I've been hearing a lot of "oh my gosh, we never did that kind of thing when my husband and I got married" when I've talked to older women about various wedding things. It's made me think about how much simpler weddings were when our parents got married. My question is....what's something in your wedding that you're doing that's probably just an invention by the wedding industry to make brides spend money but you have to have anyway? I'd have to say for me it's probably save the date cards, the day after brunch, and just the fact that we're spending a lot of money on our reception. Other examples I can think of are things like candy bars, photo booths, and horse and carriage rides. Anyone got an opinion on this topic?

Ask a Question - Color Question

Our dilemma: What color ties/shirts should the guys wear? Situation: My dress is ivory (very antique looking, lots of lace, beading). The girls' dresses are a pink color (a soft but prominent pink, nothing hot pink or real bright) with an ivory lace overlay in the middle. The flower girl's dress will be ivory with an ivory lace overlay and a pink bow. My fiance is very against the guys wearing pink ties or himself wearing a pink tie. I think it'd look sharp but he doesn't like it. The tuxes will be black and we'll definitely do pink boutineers to give them some pink on their side. What do we do for their ties and shirts though? I don't want it to look lack luster. Would black ties work? What could Erik wear to stand out? Ugh, or how do I convince him to have them wear pink ties? Haha. Any help welcome!
