Moving the wedding, again. :'(
So we are officially moving our wedding date...again. We've decided its best that I finish my last year of school before we get married and pay off more of our school debt, especially since he STILL doesnt have a decent paying job yet. We'll be in a better position all around, it all makes sense logically. However, it doesnt stop my heart from hurting like it is. We are going to lose about $1000 dollars in deposits (which we really cant afford to lose, I'm hoping our photographer will at least let us keep our deposit but I really dont know) and we are going to have to continue long distance for another year and ten months. That is the hardest part - the long distance. It breaks my heart every month when I'm having a bad day and he cant be here to just give me a hug, or when we can't coordinate even two days a month to make a trip to see eachother (we both work jobs that require weekends).

Anyway, we're thinking May 21, 2011. 1 year 9 months and 22 days away, and a 3.5 year (mostly long distance) engagement. The entire process has been such a struggle with my family, money, and long distance I'm not even sure I'll even want a wedding by the time it gets here. I'm just tired of getting excited just to be let down, I feel like I'm on a constant roller coaster. I certainely am bordering on not caring right now. I know it'll come eventually and that its for the best in the long run, my heart is just hurting like crazy now.

Wedding Dress
Went wedding dress shopping today! I have been waiting to do this for a year and a half and although we may be pushing the wedding back (completley heartbreaking but I think I might want to finish school first and my fiance still doesnt have a job in his field, although a promising interview) so its not time to BUY yet but it had been scheduled for a month so we went anyway.

It was alot of fun, I expected to cry but I didnt and neither did my mother. I tried the first dress on and nothing really compared to it after that. Its really simple but I liked it the best, and it was not at all what I was expecting to like.

I also tried it on with a long and a short veil. I think I like the long veil better, possibly a BIT shorter. I think I might also want to shorten the train.

It was a great day!

When did you start buying wedding stuff?
I've always held off on actually buying wedding stuff since we were so far off until the wedding, but now that we are under a year, I'm wondering when I should buying all the 'stuff'. I've had my eye on a cardbox for a while, but is it too early to buy?

When did you ladies start buying all the 'stuff' for your wedding? When did you start doing DIY projects?

Color Palette to go with Black Bridesmaid Dresses?
So I've been trying to make a purple theme work for a while, but it just seems there's too many shades of it and its stressing me out! lol.

I've decided to go with a simpler palette, especially because I know have 7 bridesmaids in different parts of the province.

I am thinking tea length black bridesmaids dresses, or slate blue. The wedding is in June, and our reception hall has green chairs and trees everywhere, while the church has red carpet.

I think black bridesmaids dresses will be nice and simple, but I dont want them to be too dark or formal for a spring wedding. I'm also not sure what color to pair with it thatll go with the green in the reception hall and the red in the church.

Any ideas ladies? What could I pair with a black bridesmaids dress to form a lighter, spring like palette?

Thanks ladies!

Ask a Question
Too many bridesmaids? How many are you having?
Ugh....So, I had picked my bridesmaids (below). My best friend since elementary school, and then my other best friend, my sister and two sister in laws to be. Then there are two girls from college that I was really close with (like, attached at the hip lol) that I've always wanted to include, but thought it would be too much. I also thought that it would be difficult to coordinate everyone living in 3 different places (them in Toronto with school, sister in laws in Niagara, and everyone else here). I also didnt know if we would fall apart after a year and a half of not seeing eachother, AND then I would have 7 bridesmaids. Thats alot I think, even with out guestlist of hopefully around 150-160.

What do you think? What would you ladies do? How many bridesmaids are you having? Thanks!

Update: futuremrsweikle had good advice. Its not right to leave out the girls I love. 7 bridesmaids it is, o well : )

I am getting married one year from today!!!
So any of the brides that have been on here for a while - alot that have already married, and some that are marrying soon, know that I have been on here foreeeeever (under a different account, but still). We have been engaged for 1.5 years now, and I've come a loooong way with wedding planning, with parents acceptance, and with a career choice. We are finally in a good place, finally feel like life is moving forward, and finally under a year!!!! All day my heart has been jumping out of my chest, I'm giddy! lol. I know its still a year away but its finally a decent countdown! I remember it being in the high 700's, and now we are exactly a year away!

:D (I was giddy all day. They must have thought I was crazy at work, lol).

Whats your timeline? Pictures after the wedding?
So this is my timeline:

8am: Possibly setting up the reception (ugh)
10 am: Hair appointments with the girls/Get dressed, etc.
2 - 3 pm: Ceremony
3-6 pm: Pictures
6pm: Reception

We really dont want to do pictures before the ceremony, and if we have to set up the reception beforehand, we really wont have time. I am wondering if 3 hours for pictures is too long and too long to makek the out of town guests wait? The place we are having the reception at is this huge 'entertainment' place - it has goofy golf, a petting zoo, a gift shop, plant area, arcade, etc (not in the hall area lol), we they could go there and be entertained for a while, I just dont want make them wait too long.

Whats your timeline? Is 3 hours too long to make the guests wait?

Worried about a 'boring wedding'?
As I am looking at our general guest list tonight, I am realizing...its mostly family. Like, entirely family with the exception of the bridal party (which is half family). This sounds lame, but I just moved home from college and was super busy there and kind of lost touch with my college friends, and I've only really kept in touch with 2 of my high school friends back home..so I dont have that many friends to invite anyway and N is in the same situation.

But now I'm worrying - is the wedding even going to be any fun? Will people actually dance? I'm so shy and wont dance on my own (it takes alot to get me dancing), and my two friends who are bridesmaids are even less likely to dance than I am, and so the rest are middle age/older family.

Is anyone elses guest list comprised of mostly family? Are you worried about it really being a party? (I just realized this probably has alot to do with my age - me being alot younger than alot of my family, I am the oldest grandchild so I am the youngest 'adult' by far, but still).

tired of planning.
I'm so sick of planning - I don't even know if I want a wedding anymore. We've been engaged for 1.5 years now, and I LOVED planning before, but now that its actually TIME to plan and make decisions and buy things, I don't even want to anymore.

I think a large part of it is the fact that we have alot of school debt that could be payed off instead, and although we aren't going into more debt for the wedding, the money we are spending could be put to better use. Also, my PARENTS are going into more debt to pay for the meal for this wedding and I dont like that either - I would be so much more comfortable just having a luncheon or something where they didnt have to spend $6-7000 dollars on one night.

I would be so happy to just have a simple ceremony and luncheon (because cutting the guest list any more isnt really an option, most of it is essential family and we are at about 140, so a cheaper lunch or similiar meal is the other option).

Just really feeling no interest in any of it.

Wedding Dress
Having it made?
We had a family bbq today, and my aunt mentioned to me that she is giving me $100 dollars towards my wedding dress for babysitting her daughter for a week while she was away. Pretty awesome, since that department is pretty tight budget wise and I dont really want to skimp, but I do have to fit into budget.

Also, my friends mother mentioned making my wedding dress for me tonight. The idea of making an entire wedding dress is crazy to me, since I can't sew to save my life, but now I'm thinking it might just be cool...I could get it tailored to me without paying humongous alterations fees because I'm so short, and it would probably be cheaper to make in the end altogether. I just have to look at patterns and fabric prices and such. Now where am I going to find such patterns?

***I love the dress in the second picture. Its perfect, I just want to add a TINY bit of lace. Maybe a lace sash or something (get rid of the belt type thing she has), would that be wierd? Looks easy enough to make...

Thats all :)
