Ask a Question
Ladies please I need your thoughts!!!!!

This is going to be a long post ladies so get comfy lol. Ok I put down the deposit for my venue today, THANK GOD!!!!! I am so grateful that in this trying time in our economy I am still able to afford the wedding of my dreams and not be put in a bad situation by it (knock on wood lol). So this was an exciting day for me. I met with the sales rep at the hotel, which by the way if anyone is thinking of going to the embassy suites hotel in Downey California and have your wedding there, you must talk to Isela Arroyo she is an absolute gem. But we finalized my menu and I looked at the reception room and the patio area again. Now here is where my situation begins.

So while we were looking at the patio area (this is where I am holding the actual ceremony and it is connected to the ballroom where I am going to have the reception keep this in mind as you read on) Isela tells me of another bride who is going to get married in the gazebo/ atrium area on the staircase. Now this really intrigued me because I was a lil worried about weather, not just rain but heat as well. It can get pretty warm here in may, and we also have rain in may as well. So when she told me this we went back inside and she showed me how it is going to be set-up. Now ladies this is where I need you guys infinite knowledge and opinions.

Now if you look at pictures 2, 3 and 4 these are pictures of the patio area. Pic #2 is of the outside entrance to the patio area. I really like this because it gives my wedding an excusive edge like VIP status at the club lol. Pic # 3 and 4 are pics of the actual patio area. I love all the trees and plants, the tropical look to the area and the privacy element as well as the fact that it is connected to the reception room. The things I don't like about it is the size of the patio they can only fit like 89 people in there and that may be a bit cramped and the weather as well. If it is not raining it will be hot and I will have a lot of older relatives at my wedding.

Now pic# 5 is of the inside area. If you look to your left of the pic you will see where they will set-up the chairs for my guests. In the far left in the back that is the elevator where I will come up to the 2nd floor walk along the way to the top of the staircase ( and all my guest will be able to see me the whole time) which is to the right of the pic. My FH would just walk up that small flight of stairs at the far right to the round part of the staircase. that is where the officiant and the arch everything will be. I will come down the main set of stairs to the round area, and my wedding party would be standing along the main staircase. I love the look and the feel of the atrium. With the outside area my aunt was going to sew me some seat cushions (for the stone benches) and draperies to hang along the walls and stuff. With the inside part I don't have to worry about none of that, except I would probably buy a gazillion rolls of Tiffany blue tulle and wrap the stair rail in it to give it a more personal touch but that's it. the whole tropical, Mediterranean theme is very beautiful and inviting to me. Those are the pros, now here are the cons. If you look in the far back of the pic that is a restaurant that they will not close. The path in the middle of the atrium is also open to people where they can just walk through while the ceremony is commencing (but I was thinking that I can just post an usher at either end and have them ask the hotel guests to go around). And the big gazebo in the middle of the picture could possibly be booked for and engagement at the same time so something could be going on there as well. So I feel that l lose the privacy element completely.

Isela was saying that at the moment of my wedding I am not going to be at concerned about that. And that no matter what, it is not going to take away from my day, and that all eyes will be on me. And I kind of get that and that is why I am considering the inside ceremony. what do you ladies think. I hope I explained the situation with enough detail so that you all can get a clear idea of what I am talking about. But please if you can I am really interested in seeing what the WBC crew thinks lol. I would your ya opinions to help me make my decision. Thanks in advance ladies :) P.S, I told you guys it was going to be long lol.

The inside area is gorgeous but if you want more privacy the outdoor patio is probably the way to go. If the weather isn't cooperating, can it be changed to inside last minute?

While I think both areas are beautiful my choice would be the patio...I wouldnt like the loss of intimacy knowing that perfect strangers may be watching our wedding as dining entertainment, or could even walk right through the middle. Wedding or no, it will be a distraction! If the weather doesn't work, maybe you could have the indoor area as a back up?? Will they accomodate that?

i'd probably go with the inside area myself. i really like the look of it, very tropical and you don't have to worry about the weather. and i kinda like that people will be able to see the wedding. EVERYONE loves a wedding and you get to be the star of it! having an usher posted at either end would probably work and really, who would walk through when they can see an event going on. and having an engagement party nearby wouldn't bother me because obviously they are celebrating a wedding, just like you guys! for the peace of mind from the weather, i would move it inside. good luck!

i think i would have to pick inside if it were me. i know i had a different situation but we had a last minute ceremony on the beach. i was really worried about people watching. when it came time, i didn't care who was watching. i didn't even know there was people watching until after. when i headed down the path, there was no one there but my hubby and i. i was actually flattered that people stopped to watch my wedding (and congratulate us after).

just my 2 cents :)

Either would be beautiful.

I would probably plan on having it outdoors, with using the inside as a backup, but I really love outdoor weddings.

Thanks ladies for all of your opinions and support.  I got a lot to think about, but I think I am going to just stick with the outdoor ceremony and do the indoor as a back up for weather.  I am going to go see a wedding that is doing the indoor option next month.  So you never know I may change my mind again.  :) lol
