I know that the photo sof the magazine page hardly does the image justice, but it's the best I can give you. I found this article in MN Bride during one of my pre-engaged guilty indulgences into wedding magazines. I remember I was so torn about whether or not I should actually buy the magazine just for these bouquet photos...especially when I had no idea when an engagement would come. Well, (obviously) I bought it anyway, and then I stashed it away...and now, I'm so glad I did! Since then I have seen hundreds (thousands?) of wedding bouquets in magazines and online, and I have yet to see anything I love as much. The text from the article states...
"This bridal bouquet, designed by Sasssafras Floral & Garden Design, features cymbidium orchids, Red Sox and Eveline calla lilies, Black Baccara and Blue Curiosa roses, thistle, cestrum, dates, galax leaves and vintage beads. The corsage (shown below) follows suit by using elements similar to the bouquet."
I'm especially drawn to the look of the orange and yellow orchids with the purple roses and calla lilies, and I love the vintage blue of the thistle. When I met with our florist, I brought this photo along to show her. She looked at the picture and asked me some questions about what I specifically liked about the bouquet, and did I like this flower and that flower, and in the end, she told me that I had made her job very easy. It is basically a "copy this look" kind of job. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the berries. I don't mind them, but they don't do much for me from an aesthetic point sense, so we're not including them. This photo was definitely where I got the idea to combine orange with purple/burgundy for our color scheme. The third photo is a photoshopped image of the bouquet with the bridesmaids dresses. Doesn't it look great against that taupe? The fourth photo is another bouquet that I really loved from the article. In the end it was a little too winter feeling for me, but I really like the softness of the pinks and oranges with the deep, deep purple of the calla lilies. Here's a description...
"This vintage inspired bridal bouquet, designed by Martha's Gardens, uses Caption Rosette pink mini calla lilies, Big Fun roses, beehive ginger, Tiramisu spray roses, tweedia, seeded eucalyptus, jasmine vines and velvet leaves."
Lastly, Mama C made these baskets (photo five) for the flower girls to use in the wedding. Aren't they great? I mean, how many people get to have flower girls that carry baskets hand made by their mom in their wedding? I'd guess not many. I think we're going to use some of the extra bridesmaid dress fabric that I ordered to line the baskets and then florist will make a little bouquet to fit inside them. (No petal dropping girls for us!) What was the one thing that served as your inspiration jumping point? All of these floral photos are of images found in MN Bride magazine. I believe it was the Fall/Winter 2006 issue. The article is "A Budding Romance". Photos by Earl Kendall, styling by Lori Evert.]]>

Well, sort of. Naturally, my curiosity got the best of me, and I entered our zip code. This is the response I got... On average, couples that live in XXXXX (Ourhometown, MN) spend between $16,458 and $49,374 for their wedding. This does not include cost for a honeymoon or engagement ring. In this area, 81% of couples spend less than the average wedding cost while 19% of couples spend more than the average. Huh, wah?!? Our "average" wedding has a nearly $33,000 spread?! Why don't they just tell me that in our area, people generally spend between $0 and and infinite amount of money on their wedding? It's about that helpful. Not to mention that according to Merriam-Webster, an average is "a single value (as a mean, mode, or median) that summarizes or represents the general significance of a set of unequal values". Don't worry, you read that right, it says "single value". I also enjoy the part where it states that 81% of couples spend less than the average, and 19% spend more than the average. That, of course, leaves 0% of couples spending the average amount of money on their wedding. That's right, no one in our zip code spends between $16,458 and $49,374 on their wedding! It's amazing! I played around on the site, and put in a number of zip codes from our area as well as greater MN and Eastern WI, and although the specific numbers changed, the spread stayed about the same. Clearly, there's no need to get my knickers in a knot or anything, but I just had to dump share. The best part about it (other than the old school tape graphic) is that it doesn't automatically start playing when someone looks at your page. I'm sorry ladies, but it seriously annoys me when I come across someone's blog and music starts playing. I'm always in a panic to find the playlist player and turn the thing off.
