Ask a Question
Honeymoon ideas around the midwest or east coast?

We are only 3 months away from the big day and we still haven't booked a honeymoon, nor do we have a clue where we want to go. Scott HATES to fly, which annoys me because I love to fly. But, being the loving soon-to-be wife that I am, I've agreed we won't go anywhere that requires riding on a plane. Otherwise he'll be freaking out thinking about the dreaded plane ride instead of enjoying our wedding day.
The wedding is in the Cleveland, OH area and we'd like to leave for a week long honeymoon the next day. So, does anyone have any ideas within driving distance of Cleveland??? We don't mind a longer drive - we'd be willing to drive up to 10-12 hours or so if it's someplace nice! Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!!

Hey- I was going to suggest Chicago cause it's amazing in the summer and there are always great summer concerts, lots of energy, the lake can be romantic and they have tons of jazz and sexy lounges and rooftop places to see each night. BUT then I read that you are willing to drive 10-12 hours and I think you should go to Florida!! Myrtle Beach is a great option for honeymoon in the states!

The finger lakes! I loooove the finger lakes. Everything is so pretty and peaceful. We used this website and really liked it:

It's no white sand beach, but I think it's better. Boating, wineries, and plain old relaxation. Google maps tells me it's about a 5 to 6 hour drive from Cleveland.

Re: Nidhal, I think Cleveland to FL would be a 16 to 20 hour drive depending on how low you go. If you want a beach, you could try Hilton Head in SC, or Virginia Beach, in Virginia.

I was going to say Chicago too, but I really like the Finger Lakes suggestion pruplenat1 posted about. I think it depends on the vibe you want but great suggestions either way! I dunno exactly how long it would be, but what about the Poconos?

Thanks so much for the suggestions!  Chicago is such a fun city, but we've been there together 4 or 5 times, so we want someplace neither of us have been before.  Myrtle Beach or Florida sound great, but may be a little too far to drive.
Someone mentioned the Finger Lakes to us a while ago, but I didn't know anything about it.  Thanks for the website Purplenat!  I'm definitely going to check out that idea - it sounds great!

I would very highly recommend where my husband and I went on our honeymoon, we just went there again for our first anniversary.  Dancingsuncabins.com it's really affordable ($800 for 7 nights) and the area is beautiful.  The mountain roads can be a little difficult but it's so worth the drive.  It's 8 hours from where we live in VA and we enjoyed it enough to go twice.. there are so many wonderful things to do, the Biltmore Estate http://www.biltmore.com/ is about an hour drive from the cabin, there's Grandfather Mountain http://www.grandfather.com/ with some amazing views, horseback riding, hiking, biking, the Hot Springs themselves... the cabin comes with a hot tub, gas grill full bathroom, kitchen, satellite TV... we love it, and if you're looking for a secluded get away from the masses, this is where I would say to go! :)

I'm with Bugchick - NC or Virginia would be a great choice-- and such a beautiful drive at the end of September!! I've driven there from the Niagara Falls area and the drive was really nice- not too long.  And Biltmore Estate is out of this world !!

You should also consider New England... I go there almost every year. It's 7 hrs to the coast for me and probably about 9 for you. The foliage is breathtaking.  Alot of cool places to see on the East Coast- Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Boston, Salem, Maine etc. There's whale watching and , if you or your FH is a seafood fan, wicked eats !

Thanks again for all these suggestions!  I've been so busy with other wedding-related things lately that I haven't really investigated honeymoon stuff too closely yet.  I'd better get on it so places don't book up!  We are going to research the Finger Lakes, New England, Virginia, and NC.  All of these places sound like they would suit us.  We really aren't a "sit on the beach all day" kind of couple.  We enjoy doing outdoor activites, camping, exploring cities, and checking out nice restaurants.  We like to keep busy during the day so I think any of these places would meet our needs!
