Bridesmaids
Dress Options
Today my cousin and I started shopping for the bridesmaid dresses. We found two good options. It has also confirmed how much I like the shade of green I selected. We are still planning to check out a few more stores, but I do really like these. They would both be the green shade of the first dress. Also, the long one looked much better in person than on the model.
I'm still torn between going with a short or long dress. What do you think? |

Music
Some ideas I have
I've been thinking a lot about what kind of music I want to use for the ceremony. I want to use classical music, but not the same old songs that get used over and over again at millions of weddings. I also find a lot of modern love songs to be super cheesy. Apparently most of the songs that I think are beautiful happen to have depressing lyrics. I don't know why. However, I think I may have found a solution!
There are two string quartets that convert rock and indie songs to classical ones. The Vitamin String Quartet and The String Quartet. Some songs I want to use are: - Street Spirit (originally by Radiohead) - Satellite (originally by Dave Mathews) - Transatlanticism (originally by Death Cab for Cutie) - Survivalism (originally by Nine Inch Nails) It is the perfect way to incorporate my style of music so that it can be enjoyed by all of my guests as well! I would put up a playlist with samples, but playlist.com didn't have samples of any of these songs. |

Family
More drama
A few days ago I mentioned how my Aunt was irritating me by telling me how to manage my guest list. Well, now I'm having issues with another Aunt and Uncle.
I unintentionally scheduled my wedding for a weekend that they are supposed to be away. Now I can not hear the end of it. They are mostly annoyed because they invited us to go away with them. However, this was before we got engaged, so I completely forgot about it. I never actually intended to go with them either, so I didn't write the dates down. They had a small family get together yesterday and every single time someone mentioned the wedding my Aunt would make a snide comment about how they can't go. Do they really expect me to change the date for them? What if someone else has a conflict? I can't be excepted to work my wedding around everyone's lives. |

Wedding Bands
Anyone opting for something different?
We haven't started really shopping for wedding bands yet, but I've been trying to get ideas as to what I want. My FH already knows that he just wants a solid gold band. Lord of the Rings style, as he calls it (nerd).
I really love the color pink, and I am thinking I may want some sort of pink gemstone ring instead of diamonds. Maybe diamonds and gemstones. I just think it will be so much more interesting than the usual wedding band. I even thought about going this route for my engagement ring, but decided against it. Is anyone else doing something a little different? Any opinions on the rings I've picked are very welcome. |

Ask a Question
Photography
Now that I have my venue, I need to start working on booking my photographer. But for some reason I just don't want to deal with this. Photography is #2 on my list of "most important things for my wedding" and I think that is what is freaking me out. I can look at a million pictures that someone has taken but I will still be worried that mine will not be good enough. It's also the second most expensive thing that I need.
I feel like I need more help in this area. Chances are I will end up going to my meetings alone. I just don't know what I really need? My ceremony/reception will be a total of 5 hours, and I want to do pictures at the venue before that. Should I also have pictures where I get ready that day? That would mean booking for like 7 hours. Then there is the question of prints and albums. A part of me wants to just get one big print that I can frame and hang on the wall, then just get the rest on cd to make my own album at a later date when I have more cash. So my question is, what is everyone doing as far as photography packages? How did you make a choice as to what to sign up for? |

Bridesmaids!
I am so happy that the three girls I asked to be my bridesmaids all said yes! I chose my Cousin and two close friends. It will be a bit of a challenge because one friend lives in Las Vegas and the other is about an hour away. But, I am excited to have them by my side for my big day!
Everything seems to finally be going a little more smoothly. Now I just need to focus on booking a photographer and DJ. |

We have a date!!!
Venue booked
We finally settled on a date and booked our venue. We will now be getting married on August 28, 2009. Yay!
I booked the venue I fell in love with. They were able to bring the price down a little, although it is still slightly above what I hoped to pay. I think it is worth it though. I would not have felt as happy with any other venue. The building sits on a lake and there is a fountain (which you can see in the pic). The room we will be in has one wall of windows that look out over the lake which is lit at night. The ceremony area is outside and and covered by billowing white fabric and also looks out over the lake. They are also very known for their wine selection. The cocktail area takes place in the wine cellar where guests can choose up to 8 bottles total to sample. But my absolute favorite thing about this place is the asian theme running throughout. They have a koi pond, cherry blossom trees, and an asian style bridge and arch. Considering our theme is Zen, it could not have been more perfect! I can not wait! I also had my first wedding related family issue yesterday. My Aunt basically told me that I have to allow my cousins to bring a date because they are both over 18. Now, I realize that according to etiquette books this is the proper thing to do. However, my budget is very tight and I don't feel that I should have to pay for people I don't know to be at my wedding. It would be completely different if they are in a committed relationship by that time, but if they just want to bring someone in order to have a date I don't think it's ok. |

About My Wedding
I've been complaining a lot lately about being stressed about the planning process, budget, etc. I've received good advice from people which I am really grateful for. I thought I would just take some time out to explain a little about my wedding and the things I am planning.
Our budget is $11,000. This does not include my dress (which I already bought) and our Honeymoon (which we haven't even thought about yet). We still don't have an exact date set. We were looking at Sept. 6, but now I think we may do a Friday in August. My fiancee thought Friday would be better than Sunday so that people wouldn't leave the party early because of work on Monday. Hopefully I will have my venue secured by next week. I actually found the perfect place, it's just more expensive than I was hoping. I have a second meeting with them this weekend and I am hoping to work out a lower price that I feel more comfortable with. Even then it will be close to 70% of our budget! Sadly, the cost is typically for my area. I do plan to DIY what I can. Invitations, Programs, etc will def. be DIY. I thought about doing flower, but I don't think I have any place to store them. I may do some other decor stuff myself. It's too soon to tell. Let's see....other than that, I know that I want my colors to be green, ivory, and grey with hints of dark pink. The theme is zen. I want bamboo and orchid centerpieces, paper cranes, and paper lanterns. And thats about it. =) |

Ask a Question
Does anyone else have trouble staying logged in?
This site is driving me crazy lately. I will log in, read a post, and by the time I go to leave a comment it says I am no longer logged in. It's very frustrating. Is anyone else having this problem or am I just doing something wrong over here?

Everything
So tired of planning
I have been feeling so discouraged the past two weeks. I've never been very good at spending exuberant amounts of money on things (even if it's not my money), so all of the cash it's taking to put a wedding together is not sitting well with me. I just want to be married. Not broke. I also don't want to just pick the cheapest reception venue just to save a few bucks. I wish that some magical, perfect, reasonably priced venue would just appear before my very eyes.
It's not helping that I am fresh out of college, unemployed, and the economy is in the shitter. My bridesmaids are broke, our families are broke, and our friends are broke. It seems like a bad time to be trying to have a wedding. But I don't want to put it off either. I feel like either way I am not going to be 100% satisfied. |
