Candy Buffet
Like many other brides on here, we are going to have a candy buffet at our wedding. We are really excited about it as we love candy! We are going to have candy in all ranges of pinks and yellows. Can't wait to see how it looks!

Here is a link I found about building your candy buffet: http://www.favorideas.com/wedding-blog/candy-buffet-ideas/

So, my question is, how early can you start buying the candy? I know some brides have been talking about stocking up on candy that's on sale after Halloween and Christmas.. but how could I be sure that it would stay fresh and yummy (even if I look at expiry dates, I'm a little scared of buying it too early). I'd be grateful for any advice/recommendations. Thanks!

Well, since your wedding isn't until August '09, I wouldn't buy the candy until like June or July. Like you said, you don't want it to be old and stale by the time your wedding comes around and buying it too early, I'm sure that will happen.

If you plan on ordering your candy from a website, check with the website to see what type of shipping options they have. That way, you will know exactly how far in advance you need to order so that you can be sure your candy is fresh (and on time). Also, that will help you to figure out when you should place your order so that it is as close to your wedding as possible. Just figure in how many days it will take you to set everything up also.

I hope this helps.

when i worked retail i know for a fact that unsold halloween candy was put in storage to be sold the next year.  and i worked for a large drugstore chain in Canada.  chocolate usually lasts a long time.  as well, you can take the candy out of the original packages and vacuum pack it.  this is what i did for my pink (Breast Cancer Awareness) M&Ms.  i'm not worried about them at all.  though i might have to do a taste test closer to the date.  ;)

If you go to this link :
http://www.scoops-scoops.com/candy_life.html they have a list of each kind of candy life and storage.
example : Chocolate - Dark 1 - 2 years
Dark chocolate can be kept for 1 to 2 years if wrapped in foil and stored in a cool, dark and dry place. A pantry or basement is an ideal location.

Chocolate - Milk 8 - 10 months
