Questions to ask venue/caterer
I have compiled a lengthy list!
I have put together a list of things that I need to ask the venue on Thursday when I go to look. I am not sure if we are visiting the TJ's place on Thursday because they haven't emailed me back about visiting, but I may just call them tomorrow... But here is my LONG list..... It may be helpful for some of you still looking for a venue also! And if I've left anything important out, please let me know!!

Canon Ridge:
-Do I need to be a member of the golf club? Do rates change for non-members?
-Other than catering, must I use any specific vendors or may I choose?
-See where ceremony would be held
*are chairs included? Arch? Aisle runner?
*Can ceremony be at 11 and reception around 2?
*If the weather is bad and the ceremony has to be held inside, can we still do them at the 2 times so the setup will be different for both?
-What kinds of table linens are included?
*Different colors?
-Can I use any kind of centerpiece I want and will the staff set them up?
-Are chair covers included? What kind of chairs? What kinds of tables?
-Are there any other fees besides the $1500 for the reception & $500 for the ceremony? (service charges; other than the gratuity and tax)
-Do the (50)s next to the hors d'oeuvres mean 50 pieces? Are there still plates and such on the tables? Could the hors d'ouevres be set up on plates on a table rather than passed around?
-Is there a room here for getting changed and getting ready?
-How are tables set up with an hors d'oeurves reception?
-Can an iPod be hooked up to the audio equiment? If not, a laptop?
-Is a microphone provided?
-Which of the things listed under "services" is included/complimentary in the rental price? (i.e. audio & video presentations, cake cutting, photographer, floral arrangements, balloon decor, wedding coordinator, champagne toast).
-Is the silverware, china, glassware, etc all included in the rental price? What about the dance floor, mirror tiles, and votives? (Want to see these)
-What kind of room fees may apply? (on website)
-the 4 hour reception is not including the setup and cleanup?
-How many people can sit at 1 table?
-Is there a food/beverage minimum?
-Are there any photographer restrictions?
-Will there be enough parking?
-When is the rest of the payment due?
-We want a sweetheart table
-How many tables will we be given and what are the dimensions of all the ones we are allowed to use?
*For caterer:
-How would "ticketed" bar work? Would a $15/hr charge still apply?
-How many glasses would 1/2 a keg be?
-With an hors d'oeuvres reception, are soft drinks still included? If not, how much is it?
-When does a final head count need to be in?
-How will last minute requests be handled? (i.e. guests showing up without an RSVP)
-How are the waitstaff dressed?
-Are there any charges that need to be paid AFTER the reception?

TJ's Catering & Celebrations
-What is included in the rental/catering price? (table linens, napkins, glassware, etc)
-What color linens/napkins are available?

-How much time before the reception and after is there for setup and cleanup? (is that time separate from the reception time?)
-Is there an available room for getting ready?
-What kind of china etc. is there?
-How many people can be seated at 1 table? How many tables will we be given and what are the dimensions of all tables we are allowed to use?
-What are the bar charges? (for a ticket bar, then cash bar)
-Are candles permitted?
-What stipulations are there for decorations?
-Is there a dancefloor?
-Is audio equipment available or cost extra? (iPod hookup)
-The rental would be $500 as long as we used the catering services?

-Is there a food/beverage minimum?
-Are soft drinks included in the catering prices?
-Who will be responsible for setup and cleanup?
-Any photography requirements/restrictions?
-Are there any service charges other than the rental fees (cleanup and setup fees, etc)? What gratuity percentage and tax is there?
-Will there be enough parking?
-What time will setup begin?
-When will a final head count be needed?
-When is the rest of the payment due?
-How will last minute requests be handled? (Guests w/out RSVP)
-How many servers per table?
-What is included in the per-person price?
-Are gratuity charges separate from service charges? Are there service charges?
-We want a sweetheart table
-How are the waitstaff dressed?
-Are there any charges that need to be paid AFTER the reception?

Venue
going to look at one on Thursday!
On Thursday morning my butt is getting up at the crack of dawn to head up to Fredericksburg. My reason is actually not to look at venues haha. It's to fix my car with this one place that we've been going to for a long time who have "fixed" my AC twice, but it never has really been fixed. Can we say annoying in the summer?? So I'm leaving here probably around 6 AM to get up there by 8 so I can drop my car off first thing.

ANYWAY, that day after I drop my car, my mom and I are going to look at 2 venues probably. One being the Cannon Ridge Golf Club! I am hoping that I like it. The website really doesn't have any pictures of where a reception would be held or anything (they are kind of new). We are going there around 2 PM. We also may be going to look at this other place earlier in the day. Both places kind of even out with their pricing. It's just a matter of which is the better deal as far as inclusions. I need to make a list of things to ask both places.

But I am so excited!!! It's pretty much the first step of my planning seeing as I basically had to start over.

Ask a Question
Couples vs. Sandals resorts?
As much as I would LOVE to go to Ireland or something for our honeymoon, it would just be much too expensive and we are not even sure whether my FH's parents are paying for the honeymoon or not. No one likes to tell us this stuff! Anywho, with Ireland, you can't really get all-inclusive, so on top of the few thousand dollars it would cost just for plane tickets and hotels, we would need spending money, food money, drink money, money for activities, etc. SO, we are probably going to go with an all-inclusive resort type of thing. The only 2 I know of are Sandals and Couples. So my question is, which one is better? Or what are the pros and cons? I have Google searched some reviews comparing the two, and it seems that some people say Couples is more relaxed than Sandals. AND I read that one of the Couples resorts has horseback riding which I would so love to do! But is one resort nicer than the other? Has anyone gone to one or both?

Second question: What other all-inclusive things are there besides Couples and Sandals? I'm kind of excited now that we are probably moving up the wedding date, we will be able to take our honeymoon by next summer rather than having to wait until December 2009 or January 2010. And our honeymoon will probably be our first vacation together!

Third: which Couples resort do you recommend? I know they are all in Jamaica....

Anyway, any help on the topic would be appreciated!

What can I do?
No date, but shouldn't I be doing SOMETHING?
So as of now, we don't officially have a date, but I'd like to have the wedding sometime between April and early June. It used to be September 19 of next year, but because of venue issues, we are looking to change venues and I'd really like to move up the wedding. SO, if we had it at the latest, early June, that only gives me 10 months tops... Ok that sounds like enough time, but that is IF we do it in early June... So, since we have no date, what can I be doing to prepare for the wedding? I've already given notice to my bridesmaids so hopefully they will hop on the ball in looking for dresses. I will occasionally remind them. I know that my sister (my MOH) and my 2 nieces (bridesmaids) will do ok because my sister is helping plan stuff, but I want to make sure the others are doing their stuff too... I can't really make save the dates yet since we don't have a set date yet.... I've made our guest list which is pretty set in stone unless we add maybe a FEW more people... I guess I could do some DIY projects, but what can I do? I need some ideas on some DIY stuff! I know I want to make a card box. Does anyone know a website that gives instructions for that? Anyway, if anyone has any other ideas on what I can do, let me know!

Ask a Question
Printing trouble! Help!
I ordered some things from cardsandpockets.com. I really like that they have a lot of colors for cardstock and it's quality paper. However, their printable inserts that you glue on the cardstock/pocketfolds are giving me issues. And I don't know if this is my printer or if it's the paper or both. Who knows! But anyway, the size of the printable insert is like 5"x5.75" and when I put it in my regular printer, my printer says the paper size is too small. So I tried to print it on my fiance's little mini photo printer, and it printed, but the writing looks all pixelized and you can obviously tell I printed it from home. From a slight distance you can't tell, but if you look close it doesn't look as great. And I know that no one will probably care or notice, but I know it will but the crap out of me! I want to use the cards and pockets products because they look nice, but the printing is bothering me. It might be because my printer is an inkjet and not a laser printer which I have heard makes a difference. The printable inserts from the website are basically like cardstock... so here are some things I was thinking:

1. I can order more of the cardstock from the site and get them professionally printed at somewhere like Staples depending on how much it would cost (not Office Max because they totally screwed me over last time I tried to use them).

2. Get some slightly thinner, but nice paper that is the right size for my printer, print it on there (hoping that it won't look as pixelized) and then just cut it down to the right size. It wouldn't be regular computer paper, but I know they make some nicer paper that is the same size. I am not sure how much it costs though...

Which option do you think should be less expensive? I only need to make a max of 40 invites/save the dates. OR if anyone knows why it is looking so pixelated and knows how to fix it, that would be helpful. Could it be the type of ink I have? Right now my cartridges in there are a color cartridge and a photo ink cartridge because I ran out of the black ink. So any help with my issue would be nice! Thanks girls!

Ring
Our rings!
I am a big dork and took pictures of our rings together haha. I couldn't help myself, I was too excited about them! Mine is a 3 mm 14k white gold band, and my engagement ring... I have no idea the karats for it! Kenny got it while he was on deployment in Dubai... Anyway, and his is a tungsten carbide ring and I think the black part is made out of carbon fiber. We got them from Zales. We looked at Zales and at Kay's and Kay's had exactly the same stuff as Zales for pretty much the same price. I can't remember if my ring was the same price, but his was the same both places. We went with Zales because that is where we went first and the girl there was really helpful and we would have felt bad if we got them somewhere else.

Ring Bearer!
Cutest nephew in the world!
This is my ring bearer! He's my nephew and he is soooo friggin' cute and I just want to eat him up! He'll be 4 at the time of our wedding. Hopefully he will either a) not be too shy and end up not wanting to walk down the aisle, or b) will behave enough for it. I'll have to bribe him somehow. Anyway, I can't wait to see him in a little tux!!!!

Sort of wedding related...
A&P is taking over my life!
I just started my Anatomy and Physiology class on Monday and MAN just from ONE lecture and ONE lab, I can already tell I am going to have to work my butt off for this class. I MUST GET AN A!!! That is the one thing that will really increase my chances of getting into nursing school. I just feel like it's going to take up all or most of my time and I won't have time for other things! Especially wedding planning! UGH! I mean, not that I am a stickler for a bunch of small details and I pretty much already know what I want, but still. All my time I usually spend looking at wedding things will now be spent looking at organs, bones, tissues, cells, and anything and everything A&P! I just hope with as much time as I am willing to devote to it that I will actually be able to pull an A. There's several people in my class who have taken A&P 1 before and are taking it again because they got a "C" the first time around which means you will basically not get into the program. I have only gotten a C I think twice in college and it was in Art History (lame!) and Geology (lame again). So hopefully I will do well. That is basically my only class, so I think I can do it. I am thinking of investing in a digital voice recorder because I like to write down EVERYTHING and usually I can't write things quickly enough. Anyway, I just hope I will still be able to get all this wedding stuff done. Especially now that the date is sooner than we originally planned.

Anyway, today I get to go pick up my wedding band which I am pretty excited about. I also need to get Kenny a birthday present!! And an outfit for our marriage ceremony/engagement pictures (for me).

bought a few samples for save the dates
I went on www.cardsandpockets.com and ordered the minimum amount of papers to make some save the date cards. Now that our date is probably changing, all the save the date cards that I basically hand wrote are getting trashed! Ugh! Oh well, I am hoping these will come out a little better. I ordered just some square invite cardstock iin the milk chocolate color, then ordered an invitation matte in a blue color, and I ordered the printable paper in cream. I only ordered enough to make 10 so I can play around with them, and once I figure out what exactly I'm doing, I'll order the rest of the supplies. I am also planning on ordering things to make actual invitations. I'm going to order the Signature pocketfold cards. I only need to make roughly 34 save the date cards since not everyone attending needs an individual invite, so I am order 45 for any mess-ups. I am hoping my printer won't be stupid and will print on the size paper that I ordered! I tried to print on an envelope once and it told me the paper was too small! So that's one reason I only ordered a small amount.

The picture is a completed invitation that someone made using the products on the site. Mine will be the same pocketfold and same concept, only mine will be 5x7 I think.

Can't find pack of plain dark brown cardstock!
I went to Michael's yesterday to look for some things to make DIY save the date cards, but I couldn't find a pack of just plain chocolate brown cardstock! They had packs of black and white, but pretty much everything else was packs of colors in the same family (like, a pack of neutrals, but only has maybe 5 sheets of chocolate brown). Does anyone know where I can just get a pack of maybe 50 sheets of plain brown??? Also, for anyone who has made their own save the dates/invites, what kind of paper did you use to actually print the words out? Did you get a more sturdy kind of paper? And where did you buy?

New & Exciting
Bought our bands and scheduled our marriage ceremony!
Yesterday Kenny and I bought our wedding bands! We did it early because we thought we'd have to order them and wait a while for them to come in, but I guess Kenny has a pretty standard finger and he was able to take the one right from the store! I just got a plain white gold band, and I only have to wait a week for it to be resized. Kenny is already wearing his! haha, he's so cute.

I called the marriage commissioner and scheduled a date for us to be married! It's going to be September 26 at 1:00 PM. We just have to decide on a location to do it. I'd kind of like to do it in some kind of park or something, but I just don't know where exactly. Now I need to find something cute to wear! When we go home at this time, we are also going to look for new venues for the wedding!

Wedding Dress
I need to choose!
Now that throwing our venue out the window is almost a definite, I have been frantically looking for new locations close to my and my fiance's home town. There are 2-3 options I am looking at:

Cannon Ridge Golf Club:
The website doesn't have any photos, so when we go back home next month, we will go and check the place out. It's $1500 to rent the room. I think there's 2 hours for set-up, a 4 hour event, then 2 hours for take down which I think is taken care of by the staff. We can have a ceremony here as well (which is a separate time from our reception, so it isn't part of the 4 hours), which is an additional $500. So if we went that route, it would be $2000 for reception & ceremony (already $1200 less than Maymont). They also provide tables, chairs, white floor length linens, napkins, china, silverware, glassware, mirror tiles, votive candles, and a dance floor. They will also provide an audio sound system & microphone at no additional cost. The golf club also has their own catering, and now that we can have the wedding in mid afternoon (not at a meal time), we can get away with doing hors d'oeuvres which, even if we ordered one of (which I think is 50 pieces) every type of hors d'oeurves they have, it would be less than $500 (not including tax and gratuity). So if we went this route, we'd probably do a ceremony at 11 AM, give guests time to get some lunch or whatever (most of our guests are from the area so hanging around for a while is probably not a problem), then our reception would probably be around 2. OH! And one good thing about their hors d'oeurves is with them being significantly less expensive than a meal, we may be able to increase our guest list a little!

TJ's Catering & Celebrations:
This is a catering company who also has their own facility for doingn receptions. However, they do not have a ceremony deal (and if they do, I don't think I'd want it there), so I would have to find elsewhere to do the ceremony. I posted some pictures of their reception hall. I am not sure the exact prices of doing hors d'oeurves here, but the rental fee is $500 as long as you also order food services. They told me that menu packages are typically $32 per person, but with the rental fee being so inexpensive, it pretty much evens out. But I am not sure if the $32 is for meals or if it counts for hors d'oeurves as well.

Rock Hill Plantation House:
We would use this only as a ceremony location and have the reception elsewhere. It costs $650 for our number of guests on a Friday, and $750 for a Saturday or Sunday. We get 1 1/2 hours, allowing time for guests to arrive and get seated, about 30 minutes for reception, and the rest of the time for formal pictures.

Churches:
Well, I would LOVE to get married in a really pretty church. But for one thing, my FH I guess considers himself baptist (though I'd say more non-denominational, he's not really a practicing baptist) and I am non-denominational. I am not sure which churches will marry you if you are not their denomination. I was looking into a methodist church here (the pastor actually was one of my professors for a religion class), and it seems like they do weddings for non-methodists. Does anyone know if you are required to do marriage counseling in a church if you are actually already married? We don't live in the area we are getting married and my FH and I just don't have enough time to be going back and forth for counseling sessions. Also, my FH kind of wants one of his uncles (who is an ordained minister I think) to marry us, though he hasn't asked him yet.

Anyway, those are just some of my options. I'm going to set up appointments to meet with some of them next month, so hopefully everything will work out!

Venue changing?
Good and bad
I have been a little stressed about our venue lately. Okay, Maymont cost $3000 to rent out for an evening ceremony/reception. And I really like the place itself. It's gorgeous! But that was only giving us 4 hours for ceremony and reception. Then we also had to rent a tram for $200 to take guests from the ceremony to reception because it would be a bit of a walk otherwise. Anyway, that didn't bother me too much. The venue also had a list of preferred caterers which I already knew. Well, the one caterer that I was thinking of using CLOSED IN APRIL! So now their already small list (of 4 caterers) is down to 3. One of which I already know would be out of our budget, another I have heard not so good things about, and so that leaves one more. Then when we booked our venue, the coordinator told me they were updating/adding more to their caterers list in June or July. I emailed them last month asking about it and they said the process was taking longer than expected and they weren't sure when it would be updated. Well, their list of caterers don't ONLY cater to Maymont and with the year mark approaching, I need to decide and book a caterer soon because who knows if my date would be available! So I have been kind of down about it lately being that we put down a $500 deposit and I didn't want to be out $500! But I talked to my mom today, and she said that if I wanted, I could find a different venue and not to worry about the $500 because I guess in comparison to everything else, it wouldn't be that much. She wants me to pick somewhere closer to our families (and many of our guests) hometown. The venue we picked was about 1 hour away. So that made me feel kind of better. I talked to my fiance, and he said that if the new venue and everything would come out to be less than Maymont (with the $500 loss), then changing isn't an issue. So now I'm on the hunt! One good thing is now, I might be able to have the wedding a little earlier!! Woo hoo! Wish me luck!

Wedding Bands
Tungsten vs. Titanium

I think there's a lot of debate on whether to get tungsten or titanium wedding bands, especially for the guys who do hard labor. There are pros and cons to both, though. It's just a matter of what you think will happen to the ring.

Titanium and Tungsten wedding rings comparison

Both titanium and tungsten are considered "model metals" in the jewelry industry because they were not available to the consumer market as commodities until ten years ago. They have gained tremendous popularity since the introduction and become an integral part of the jewelry material spectrum.

Due to the rather little exposure, many questions arise concerning titanium and tungsten when it comes to choosing jewelry. The followings are some points of consideration if you are seriously thinking about buying a titanium or tungsten wedding ring.

1. Hardness
Titanium and tungsten are both known for the superior hardness over traditional metals such as gold, silver and platinum. One thing worth noting is that it is not the metals themselves in a pure form that possess the hardness, it is their alloys that do. Roughly speaking, the hardest form of tungsten carbide is harder than titanium alloys, and only under extreme circumstances, such as abrasion from diamonds, can it be damaged.

2. Ductility
Titanium is more ductile than tungsten in the common alloys used in jewelry. In other words, when a wedding ring is under high pressure, such as hit by a car door, a titanium ring would be bend out-of-round whereas a tungsten carbide ring would fracture into several pieces. Hence, in terms of safety, a tungsten carbide ring is "safer" to wear.

3. Hypoallergenic
This is the very same concern as buying silver jewelry to some people: Will I be allergic to the jewelry? In general, titanium jewelry is virtually safe to wear for everybody. Yet, some tungsten carbide jewelry contains the element cobalt that some people are allergic to. Interesting, another form of tungsten alloy using nickel as a binder metal is hypoallergenic, even to people who are allergic to nickel.

4. Weight
Titanium is lighter than tungsten, or more precisely, has a lower density. Titanium alloys are about 43% lighter than stainless steel and tungsten carbide is about 90% heavier than stainless steel.

5. Coloring
Titanium reacts with different chemicals and produces alloys of different colors. Jewelry makers use anodization to coat colored patterns on titanium rings. Black titanium is another form of titanium alloy that has a different color than the commonly used grey color. On the other hand, tungsten carbide is usually offered on in black color only.

6. Pricing
Titanium jewelry is in general cheaper than tungsten jewelry primarily due to the difference in equipment and environment control need to produce them. The temperature for forming a tungsten carbide is about 6000 Fahrenheit, which has to be in either a vacuum or hydrogen environment.

7. Engraving and resizing
Titanium wedding rings can be engraved and resized. However, a tungsten carbide ring is too hard to be engraved or resized. Although engraving can be done, the letters will be very faint and difficult to read. So if you are buying to ring to engrave, get titanium rings.

Wedding Bands
These are the bands we are probably going to get (or something very similar). I am just going with a simple white gold band. Kenny wants a tungsten band because of his job and wants the kind where the middle is a brushed look. We'll probably go with Kay Jewelers or Zales.

Does anyone know typically how long it takes to get the rings? When we went to Kay's, Kenny tried on their display one, and it fit (I think he's a size 10). If they don't have his size, he'll have to have it ordered. I will definitely need mine ordered because I need between a size 3.5 and 4.

Name changing
MissNowMrs???
My last post made me think of this. Has anyone used or is planning to use the online name changing service called Miss Now Mrs? I found it through Wedding Wire and just wanted to know if it's a pretty good service. There are 2 packages you can purchase:

Basic- $19.95
Social Security
Driver's License

Complete- $29.95
Social Security
IRS (do I need this??)
US Postal Service
US Passport
Driver's License
Voter Registration
Bank Notification Letter
Credit Card Notification Letter
Mortgage Notification Letter
Utility Notification Letter
Medical Notification Letter
Insurance Notification Letter
Professional License Notification Letter
Investment Notification Letter

Now, I personally will probably go with the basic because social security and driver's license are the main things I need. Other things I need like the post office and bank and credit card, I can do myself basically for free. We don't have a mortgage. I don't have my own insurance and when we get married I'll be switching to TriCare. Do I need the IRS thing? I am just not sure what the purpose of that is. Anyway, if anyone didn't know about the service, there you go, if you do and have used it, let me know what you think!

Date change
And NOT happy about it!
Well last night my fiance gave me some really GREAT news... *sarcasm*. He told me the other day that he was going to have to go on a det to Minnesota for some air show. He thought it was the 18th-22nd of this month. I wasn't terribly happy about that, but ok, fine. Then last night, he says that it turns out it's the 18th-22nd of NEXT month. It didn't click with him at first why I was upset by this. I was like, "What date is in between those days???" SEPTEMBER FRIGGIN 19TH! That is the day we are supposed to go get married! I wanted that date because it's the date of our wedding next year and I wanted it to be the same date. I was pretty upset about it for a little while. I actually cried. There is a trend for me that the marine corps constantly interferes with my plans and it makes me SO MAD! I kind of got over it in about 20 minutes though... I'm still mad about it, but in the end, it doesn't matter that much. We will still be married by the end of next month and continue with our wedding date. I just had my heart set on both days being the same. We are probably going to do it the following weekend though, so it's okay. In the end, we will be married and I am still so excited about it! I think I am pretty excited about changing my last name! haha. I was out shopping yesterday and was signing my name for one of my purchases, and I just thought to myself, soon I won't be signing this name!

fake eyelashes

Fake lashes!
I want them! But it's my first time!
I've read some posts on here about girls getting fake eyelashes for the big day. Now I want them! Nothing too extreme, but unless I seriously curl my lashes and wear mascara, my natural lashes are very subtle. Kenny actually has longer lashes than I do and it makes me jealous! They're beautiful! Anyway, so in many of the posts I've read, a bunch of you have said MAC lashes are great (and not too expensive)! So I am thinking of going with those. However, I have never used fake lashes before, so I have a few questions:

1. I assume you use some kind of glue to put them on.... how long does it last and will it pull out my normal lashes after I'm done using them??? Will it hurt my own lashes or eyelids?

2. Are they hard to get used to? Should I try them out a few times BEFORE the wedding?

3. Who puts them on? Do I have to do it myself? I'm nervous I'll mess them up! Can a person at the MAC counter do it for you?

Telling the parents...
He's divorced!
Well I talked to my fiance about getting married before our wedding, and he was all for it! He actually said, "If you wanted to get married right now, we'd go down to the courthouse and get married." So that was a relief. And as some people have suggested, we are going to try to get married September 19 of this year, and then still have our wedding September 19 of next year and treat it as a wedding/vow renewal. I called my mom and told her what we wanted to do, and she said it sounded good especially since we were already getting married and it would help us out. So that is the plan so far.

I have one problem. My FH has been married before (briefly) as I have mentioned before. She is a terrible excuse for a human being, and no one that knows her (or about her) can stand her! So it's good they got divorced. Now, I knew about his marriage from the minute we started dating. I didn't care. I mean, everyone makes mistakes, but we learn from them. And I know that marriage is a little bigger deal, but I dated a guy for 2 years (long than I think he and his ex were together) and I think staying with my ex for as long as I did is just as bad. But I like to look at it as given the choices we have both made, it brought us together. Anyway, I have never told my parents about his ex wife. The reason I never told them was because when we started dating, they hadn't met him yet. And my parents are also really weird about people who are divorced. I mean, even when I would date guys whose parents were divorced, my parents would try to say that since their parents are divorced, they are more likely to get divorced. I sometimes couldn't believe they said that because my sister is divorced! Does that mean my nieces will get divorced? I just think that is a bad thing to assume. Anyway, I didn't tell my parents because I didn't want them to judge him on that factor before they ever met him. Then as time has progressed, I just forget to bring it up because I don't think about it too often. But now that we are about to get married, I NEED to tell them. I just don't know how to tell them and try to explain why I didn't tell them before. I don't want them to think we WANTED to hide it, but I want them to understand why we did. I guess I should just tell them that I didn't want them to judge Kenny before they met him. Kenny TRIED to work it out with this girl (which was way more than she deserved), and he even had to pay her alimony for a year! When SHE cheated, used up his money, and is just disgusting. Then he had to pay her $450/month. Ugh, it's just horrible. Hah, it was actually kind of funny because my parents asked Kenny what he wanted to do after he is out of the marine corps, and he told them he wants to be an attorney. They asked what kind, and he said either a corporate attorney or a divorce lawyer. When he said divorce lawyer, my parents were like, why?!?! He told them a very detailed example (his own example) without using his name... Anyway, I just want this to go over smoothly and not cause tension, especially if we are getting married so soon! I don't want them to think that just because he is divorced that it will happen to us too. I'm going to talk to my sister and ask her what she thinks. If any of you have any other advice, that'd be nice too!

Celebrity Look-a-like?
Anyone else?
I was reading another WBC bride's post about how her fiance proposed in front of Tom Delonge from Blink 182/Angels & Airwaves/Boxcar Racer. I thought that was so neato! And then it reminded me that I read in one of my fiance's high school yearbooks (and I went to the same high school) that some girl back then wrote that he was her "own Mark Hoppus." Mark Hoppus was a member of Blink 182 also! And after reading that I was like, "Oh my gosh, he does kind of look like Mark Hoppus!" I posted a picture. Does anyone else see any resemblance?? I think it's mostly the hair and the eyes! And does anyone else have a fiance that you would say looks like someone famous?

The future!
Need to start thinking about this!
Today, my FH brought up things like having a baby and the future. Not that I don't want to think about those things or that it isn't necessary to think about them, but it's just like, ah! I think I get so caught up in the wedding and just making the step of being married, that I forget to think about what comes after.

Today he asked me when I want to have a baby and that it's something we really need to think about and prepare for. And I know he's right. I've told him that I want a baby before I am 30. THAT'S ONLY LIKE 8 YEARS AWAY!! But that is still what I want to do. I obviously want to wait until I finish the nursing program I am trying to do (if I get in). Once I start, it should take me about 2 years I think (starting fall 2009) if I can take classes over the summers. I want to finish that because IF he plans on getting out of the marine corps, we'll need insurance and a steady income. He also said that if he stays in the marine corps for another 6 years after this enlistment (6 years after his ending date of August 2012), he can retire with them and then still get money from them and probably still take classes while he is in, being able to complete a lot of stuff for law school. I told him if he wasn't going to be deployed again, then that wouldn't bother me. He said he will probably get offered a crew chief instructor job in California at a non-deployable unit. Which would be MORE than fine since I am dying to live in California. But only if he won't get deployed! I know a lot of people say a deployment is a small price to pay, but his last deployment made me so miserable and I just don't even want to think about having to go through that again. Reenlisting AGAIN is something we'd need to discuss further though. I just hate it and I feel like I have no guarantee on whether he would deploy even if it is "non-deployable." The marine corps is so fickle and can't make a solid decision, so really anything can happen. Ah, I just don't know when I would actually want to have a baby! It's a weird thing to think about. But definitely after I get certified as an RN. No way can that happen before that. It's craziness!

Just feel like ranting
My FH had to go into work today later than usual because he had a flight this afternoon/evening. They were flying down to Camp Lejeune, NC. I think to do some training or something.... Anyway, they left and got to NC and their aircraft freaking broke down. He said he is not sure if he is going to make it back tonight. They will if they can get it fixed today and whatever, but if not, then he's stuck there until at least tomorrow. They fly these ancient helicopters. It seems something is always wrong with them! Ugh. At least he gets a 3 day weekend. Assuming this thing gets fixed.

Someof the other dresses I tried
These are just some of the other dresses I tried on. All David's Bridal. I had gone to one other bridal shop, just to try things on, but the pictures I had were from a phone and they were crappy. There were actually more dresses that I tried on here, but I think we just didn't take pictures of them. The first dress I didn't like much because I felt it made me look frumpy. Dress #2 I actually really loved! I loved the mermaid cut and I actually really liked the big long veil that the lady brought out. But the dress I chose I liked just a bit more (again, the veil sold me).

My dress shopping experience was short, which was perfectly FINE! I get really frustrated looking for clothes, so dress shopping I wanted to be easy. But I also wasn't obsessive about finding the "perfect" dress.

Wedding Dress
I suppose I needed to post this sometime!
I can't believe I haven't posted a picture of my dress yet. I guess I've been afraid that Kenny might see it, but he doesn't pay much attention to my wedding blogs. So here it is! I got mine in ivory. These are horrible pictures of me, but you kind of get the gist of the dress. My main reason for choosing this dress was it's simplicity, the sweetheart neckline, and I loved how the veil looked with it. It's hard to see my tiara. I can't even really remember what it looks like haha. I am keeping my dress at my sister's house, so I can't look at it much. The dress is from David's Bridal. Best thing is, I don't even need it altered!

I am doing a loose up-do with my hair. I want some "natural" looking makeup.

Walking down the aisle
Some song ideas!
First my FH and I were going to use a portion of a song from the Halo 3 soundtrack. It was a really pretty instrumental piece, but when I went to visit our venue and did a practice walk down the aisle, the walk is about 1 minute and 40 seconds! And the clip from the song was only about 30 seconds. So I had to think of something new. I am still unsure of whether I want an instrumental song or a regular song. But for an instrumental, I was thinking we could use the song at the beginning of the movie the Notebook! I LOVE the Notebook. I always tell Kenny that he isn't going to die before me and that we are going to die like they did in the Notebook haha. And I also told him that we were naming our kid Noah (if it's a boy). The Noah thing actually had nothing to do with the movie, I just think it's a cute name... You can listen to a clip from the instrumental here:

The Notebook

It's just a preview. It's the first song on there (Main Title).

As for a regular song, I thought of using Death Cab for Cutie "I Will Follow you Into the Dark." Love this song too!

Preview the Death Cab song here:

Death Cab for Cutie

What do you all think? The only problem I see with the instrumental is that it's a bit slow and I'm not sure how it would flow with the walking...

I guess I'll just have to run both by the fiance.

Marine Corps Ball!!
NWR: But any tips would be helpful!
I found out today that November 1 is the Marine Corps ball! (My FH is a marine). And I am not like, "ooh yay marine corps" in any way, shape, or form (though I support my fiance in every way), but this is an excuse to get all fancy and dress up, so I'm all for it!! So now I am on the hunt for a dress. I have looked at some of the designers for bridal gowns who also make special occasion/prom dresses, and I've seen some that I like. I liked some from Mori Lee and also some from Demetrios. I have seen the ones on David's Bridal, and though they aren't horrible, they are not really my first choice. I am going to look at the department stores also whenever I go to the malls... But if anyone knows any other bridal designer sites that sell some prom-like dresses, I'd love to know! (Also, nothing too off the wall expensive... I'd probably spend like, $150 for a dress. Which I think is still steep, but it'll be my first marine corps ball, so why not?!). They also need to be things that I can go to a store and try them on. I'm very iffy about ordering clothes online. I liked some of the dresses on gojane.com, but I don't want to order on the internet.

I posted some pictures of some of the dresses I like. Some of them not in the particular color pictured, but I like the styles. The first one is probably about as poofy as I want to go. Though I was eying some poofier ones for the sheer fact that they looked like Belle's dress from Beauty and the Beast and she's my favorite!

*Update: Added new pics. Found some cute bridesmaids dresses from Eden Bridals, Alfred Angelo, and DaVinci Bridal.
