NWR: VERY frustrated with this site.
I've been trying for weeks!!!!
I'm starting to get really frustrated and am wondering if anyone knows why this is going on? I've been trying to post new photos for weeks (of the rings, venue, flowers etc. All really fun stuff!) but the wont load to the site! They keep coming up with the little red 'X' in the corner :( I'm using the same computer as always, haven't changed and settings and don't think theres anything wrong with the pictures. HELP!!! I want to share with you ladies!
** I just tried adding a random photo from my wedding files to see if it would work. Hense the "burn calories" photo that I now can't delete!!! BAH! But none of my real ones will load still :(

NWR: Happy Canada Day(Belated)
Happy Canada Day everyone!!!
TO all you lovely Canadian women, and anyone else wishing to celebrate.... Happy Canada Day(yesterday). I didn't post yesterday as I was out enjoying our cities festivities with FH. Awsome fireworks, great food, and friends aplenty. 'Twas a good day.

When a crowd of 50,000+ people randomly breaks out in song (the national anthem) it gives me chills. And the fact that it was Oh Canada brought tears to my eyes... I'm a sap like that Hehe.

The only thing I didn't appreaciate about being downtown were the girls walking around in air brushed "clothing". I don't understand the need to be so naked in public. Especially while drunk and in a crowd of strangers. Didn't your parents teach you about stranger danger and being on the defensive? Anyway, that was my piece on that and I wont say anything more... except, way to stay classy Canada. I hope you ran into your Grandmother.

Wedding Cake
Will you be ripped off?
Here's my question. How are you ladies making sure you aren't getting ripped off by your vendors? I just went to a link that soon2bsfitz posted a few weeks ago... and found this!

http://www.uglydress.com/uglycakestory.html

Now I'm a little frightened about what will happen. We are only paying deposits up front and none of the vendors are getting final payment until the day-of (when I SEE what they've crafted for us) but still, are there any other failsafes you lovely ladies can share with a frightened bride-to-be??
Like how to make sure you don't end up with an awful cake, wilted flowers, or drunk DJ. There are just so many things that could go wrong!! And I do realise the importance of the first impression and referal of vendors but hey, I'm slightly paranoid so any other tips would help :)

Thanks

Honeymoon
Where are you honeymooning??
Ok, so I've been thinking a LOT about the honeymoon, even though it's a year away. I have a serious wanderlust so I tend to travel somewhere every 4-6 months. Not this year :( Because we have to save so much for the wedding and our downpayment for a house, theres not very much leftover for fun. It's been very difficult for me and staying put is getting harder, not easier, as time goes by. All I can do to keep myself from blowing the budget and spontaniously buying a trip to hawaii or something is plan our honeymoon down to the very last detail. That said I have some questions for all you lovelies.

1) Are you going on your honeymoon right after the wedding or waiting awhile?

2) Where are you going and why?

3) Who is paying? Family or yourselves or Visa? Haha

4) What are you most excited for?

These are my answers:

1) We are leaving for the honeymoon three days after the wedding, because flights are cheaper midweek than weekends and we want some time to spend with out-of-towners before we run off.

2) We are going everywhere. Our plan has always been to renew our vows on every continent after the wedding. So we're both taking a five month leave from work, sub-leasing our condo(to my brother haha), putting all our stuff in storage and taking off. We're doing mostly short overland trips with flights in between to connect the dots. There are plenty more stops but our vows will be renewed at Machu Picchu(South America), an Holland America Cruise line Antarctic Landing excursion (Antarctica), the Pyramids at Giza(Africa), Atoll Paradise beach at Maldives(Indian Subcontinent), Angkor Wat(Asia), Vatican City(Europe.... thats where FH was baptised) and diving the Great Barrier Reef(Australia). I'm soooo excited!

3) We are pre-paying for all the air and hotel/hostel, and my parents aren't helping with the wedding so they're giving us our spending money as a wedding gift.

4) I'm most excited to see Janek experience all these places! His family moved to Canada when he was three and he hasn't travelled much in his adult life so it's going to be so new for him! I'm also realy excited to relive the wedding ceremony at all these locations when we say our vows again.

Anyway, I know it's a long post but I'm just soooooooo excited!!! I have to talk about it to keep myself sane! Anyway, please let me know your answers ladies :)

Ask a Question
Trash the Dress!!!!!!
Ok. So here's my question ladies... who is doing a 'trash the dress' after the wedding? I'm leaning towards it right now, and here is my reasoning:
1) It looks super fun!
2) The photos turn out amazing. At least I think so.
3) I can't justify keeping a dress that I will never wear again. Packing it up, sealing it, and then adding it to the pile of stuff we keep but never use. And though there is a slight chance I could have a child that actually wants to wear my dress, I feel like banking on that alone isn't a good enough reason. She can have my garter or something then...

Please, converse! Let me know what you think!!!

Wedding Budget
What are you forgoing (if anything) to pay for your wedding?
Hi ladies,

FH and I just realised we have to add about 20 people to our guest list. Our budget is already pretty tight as we're paying for the wedding ourselves so I need some extra savings tips from anyone willing to help. I pose these questions to you:

1) What are you and FH forgoing (if anything) in order to be able to have the wedding you want?

2) Do you have any rather easy tips for stretching funds? Within the wedding budget and/or in daily life as well...

3) Random question- how many of you out there are not currently living with FH?

I'll start with my answers...

1) We are putting off a trip to SE Asia this year. We've re-worked it into our honeymoon.

2) We are both obsessed with Tim Hortons coffee. In order to stay on point we have been buying gift cards from TimHo's for the month and once it runs out we get no more. It doesnt seem like much but we're saving almost $50/month. Which is an extra $600 for the wedding!!!!

3) Yes, we live together. Two years and counting :)

NWR
Who chased who?? Our Story..... thanks Tashasita
For all you lovely ladies following tashasitas blog, you've probably already seen her awsome post asking "Who chased who?". It reminded me that I havent posted anything about 'Our Story' which I think it's rather cute. (And for those of you not following her.... DO IT!)

Our story is kind of funny... I went out with Lora(MOH) and a bunch of her work friends on New Year's Eve three years ago. We all got pretty drunk, and someone suggested that they call this guy they worked with as he rarely drank and was kindhearted enough to consider picking us up at 2am... He actually CAME!! I don't recall this next part (I blame the shots) but apparently I sauntered over to him, put my arm around his shoulder and asked him "if he did one night stands" haha. He politely declined as he had an on-again-off-again g/f of three years... OOPS! Anyway, I saw him at a few events over the following couple of months and heard through the grape vine that he had broken up with his now-ex. Then I joined his companies softball team. After one game, and some serious flirting, he left to Europe for a month :( On the day he returned he got my number from Lora and called me. He said he couldnt wait until softball to see me and that he was taking me out that night... no questions! He now says he couldnt stop thinking about me the whole time he was travelling.

So our first date, we went to dinner and then met up with some mutual freinds for an evening out on the lake. We had a great time, laughing and talking. Things were just so easy with him! After we got off the boat and everyone else went their seperate ways, Jan(Yan) asked if I wanted to go for a drive. We drove around for an hour talking and then parked in an abandoned lot downtown. Neither of us realised how late it was getting until a police officer tapped on his window. He thought I was being paid for services, if you know what I mean. Hahaha! After we explained that we were on a first date and just lost track of time he said "Well thats great then! You two just keep on talking and I'll make sure no one else bothers you" So sweet :) The date ended up lasting until 6am on a workday!

He called me that night and said he would love to go out again, but was a bit too tired so could we do lunch the following day? I said sure!!! He picked me up at work the next day but wouldn't tell me where we were going... He drove up one of the mountains surrounding our valley-city and pulled a blanket and bag from the trunk. We had a perfect pic-nic with amazing views. After eating, while soaking up some rays I commented on the gorgeous view from that spot.... he looked me in the eyes, and told me he couldn't see anything more beautiful than me! Then he kissed me! It was the first time I had ever experienced fireworks from a kiss!!! I started falling in love with him that day up on the mountain and it just keeps getting better....

So ladies (and gents) my story proves that you CAN find a good man while clubbing. Just not in the way you'd expect. Hahaha

After a long line of douchebags this man is a diamond in the rough, without a doubt. He completely swept me off my feet and I will love him until the day I die.

Ask a Question
Sneakers at reception.... tacky or genius??
It will be amillion times easier to dance and walk sans 3.5" heels at the reception. I would be buying new shoes (that compliment the weddings theme) not using old, ratty ones. Also, we're doing a pretty intense first dance and are planning on sticking around the party until the wee hours. In heels my feet will be VERY sore by the 2am mark(and bare feet in a barn seriously grosses me out!!!) So here is the question I pose to you ladies.... If you can't see my shoes, does it matter what they look like?

My gorgeous bridesmaids.... and their makeup
This is technically another post about my bridesmaids makeup.... but really I just wanted to show off how stunning my girls are! For real though, how do you think this makeup will look on each of them? I'm a little worried about the colouring of some of the fairer girls. FYI, they all LOVE the makeup so base your opinions on looks, not preference please :) Also, the baby in the picture with Lora is my goddaughter and FLOWER GIRL!!! Shes adorable!

Wedding Reception
Location
So we've decided on a location for sure!!! We have friends who have a 10 acre farm/orchard right in the middle of the city. It's close to hotels (5 minute cab ride or less to many of the nicer ones) for out of town guests, surrounded by beautiful mountains and orchards, and has a GORGEOUS unpainted old barn for us to use!! It's also only about a 20 minute drive from our ceremony location on the beach! I dont know why I didnt think of it before! Plus because the family that owns it are good friends of ours they are giving it to us for free as a wedding gift! Everyting is working out perfectly.... I'm getting so excited and still have over a year to wait :(
