Honeymoon
Where are you honeymooning??

Ok, so I've been thinking a LOT about the honeymoon, even though it's a year away. I have a serious wanderlust so I tend to travel somewhere every 4-6 months. Not this year :( Because we have to save so much for the wedding and our downpayment for a house, theres not very much leftover for fun. It's been very difficult for me and staying put is getting harder, not easier, as time goes by. All I can do to keep myself from blowing the budget and spontaniously buying a trip to hawaii or something is plan our honeymoon down to the very last detail. That said I have some questions for all you lovelies.

1) Are you going on your honeymoon right after the wedding or waiting awhile?

2) Where are you going and why?

3) Who is paying? Family or yourselves or Visa? Haha

4) What are you most excited for?

These are my answers:

1) We are leaving for the honeymoon three days after the wedding, because flights are cheaper midweek than weekends and we want some time to spend with out-of-towners before we run off.

2) We are going everywhere. Our plan has always been to renew our vows on every continent after the wedding. So we're both taking a five month leave from work, sub-leasing our condo(to my brother haha), putting all our stuff in storage and taking off. We're doing mostly short overland trips with flights in between to connect the dots. There are plenty more stops but our vows will be renewed at Machu Picchu(South America), an Holland America Cruise line Antarctic Landing excursion (Antarctica), the Pyramids at Giza(Africa), Atoll Paradise beach at Maldives(Indian Subcontinent), Angkor Wat(Asia), Vatican City(Europe.... thats where FH was baptised) and diving the Great Barrier Reef(Australia). I'm soooo excited!

3) We are pre-paying for all the air and hotel/hostel, and my parents aren't helping with the wedding so they're giving us our spending money as a wedding gift.

4) I'm most excited to see Janek experience all these places! His family moved to Canada when he was three and he hasn't travelled much in his adult life so it's going to be so new for him! I'm also realy excited to relive the wedding ceremony at all these locations when we say our vows again.

Anyway, I know it's a long post but I'm just soooooooo excited!!! I have to talk about it to keep myself sane! Anyway, please let me know your answers ladies :)

1. Going on a honeymoon later. More than likely in December due to Mark's school schedule.

2. Going to Jamaica. Mark's homeland and it is super important to me to meet his grandma (she raised him to age 13-14) and she is tooo old to travel.

**YOUR HONEYMOON SOUNDS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!! IN THE MOST AMAZING WAT! WOW WOW WOW!!!!!

3. We're paying for air/spending $$ and upgrades but my Dad's closest friend is giving us a week's vacation at a resort through his timeshare co.

4. Spending some QT with the hubsy. We do alot, but this will be without any stress, demands, cooking, cleaning, etc. Just good QT and fun excursions. And I really am so looking forward to meeting his grandma - she made him who he is. :)

Aww Tasha that sounds perfect! And getting to meet Mark's grandma will be super special :) The QT thing is the only thing I'm a bit aprehansive about when it comes to our honeymoon. I feel like we might end up spending too much time rushing to make flights or tours and lose sight of what we're actually supposed to be doing... I think I might add a few days of downtime at some laid back island before we come home. Your honeymoon sounds amazing! Also... Mark's in school??

Yeah a balance is better but still - sounds sooo awesome. Def try to inject some down-time QT in there. :)

Mark starts back at school in Sept. Upgrading his skills. :)

Wow is right! Man, I cant even imagine being able to travel like that. Both of your honeymoon's sound amazing and trips of a lifetime!  I personally have never been out of country and all FH has been to was Iraq, Afghanistan, and Germany when he was injured in Iraq.

Here goes ours. Its kinda sad but hopefully ( please pray for us ladies) it will be better when he gets back

1) Are you going on your honeymoon right after the wedding or waiting awhile?    We are leaving immediately after the wedding and driving up. We have 3 kids and the older 2 start school back on that Monday. Just a weekend getaway for now. Plus, FH is leaving for another year in Afghanistan 2 weeks after the wedding so really, we just want to spend as much time as a family with our kids before he leaves.

2) Where are you going and why? We have a gorgeous cabin in Gatlinburg TN. The great Smokey Mountains. Why? Its close and still beautiful with many things to do.

3) Who is paying? Family or yourselves or Visa?   My sister bought the cabin as our gift but we are paying for everything else. After paying for our wedding  money is so stretched thin, its unbelievable. But, we have maganed to get everything done and still do birthday parties and little extras.

4) What are you most excited for?  Im most excited to be alone with my new husband without kids running through the house and telling on each other. Its so bittersweet. He will be all mine for 3 days but then gone for a year. Even though we have done this, it never gets easier..

Wow, ok. lol I kinda got on some sad depressing tangent there for a min. Sorry! Please dont get me wrong, my faith is High and our love strong and I know we can get through anything together.  I am very excited to just go anywhere with him.

We plan on going to Disneyworld for 2 weeks as a family trip when he gets back and one day, Italy!! WooHoo

armysgtswifetobe, don't be sorry. That is tough. You can be sad, but the most important and admirable part is that even though that is a reality in your life, your dedication to him and your family is that strong. You're human and allowed to say it's hard, but you still do it. That takes an immense amount of strength and I commend you for that.

I hope you greatly enjoy your 3 days with your honey. Lord knows you deserve it. And here I am feeling sad the military is going to take Mark 1.5 hours away Mon-Thurs. Girl you got me beat x a million.

First of all, HOLY MOLY!! That is so amazing that you guys are able to take 5 months off and travel the globe! Super great! I hope to be in a position to do that one day! Will you update WBC on the way so I could live vicariously through your adventures please :) Honestly, that is so wonderful!!! yay.

1) Are you going on your honeymoon right after the wedding or waiting awhile? We are going a week after wedding- that gives us time to relax, spend time with fam who is staying through most of the week, pack, and then take off :)

2) Where are you going and why? We decided very early on that we didn't want to do any type of exploring or go somehwere that required sightseeing or travel (example, we went to Paris last year and although it was amazing and romantic, it was also exhausting cause we wanted to see everything and explore everything so we didn't exactly "relax" ...we were in full tourist mode) so we wanted o be able to literally lay on a beach, sip cold drinks, and relax and we wanted to do an all inclusive resort so we could pay everything up front and then chill. We decided to go to Playa Mujeres Mexico for 7 days, all inclusive, adults only. Our first choice was Bora Bora but it was way too pricey for a week and since we are paying for our wedding we figured we should do Bora Bora for our first anniversary instead...

3) Who is paying? Family or yourselves or Visa? We have already booked it so we paid for it. We are registered for a hneymoon so I'm sure people may contribute to the fund. :)

4) What are you most excited for? This will be short and sweet: relaxation. no vendors, no wedding details, nohing. ahhhh. i'm salivating.

Aww thanks soon2bmrskloch - that's super sweet :) But it's true - I soo admire anyone in the military, but I have always admired military wives - holding their families down. I am one - kinda - but I don't have kids, and Mark is almost always deployed for 6 weeks or less. The women who do what they do to support ours and any country's troops - phenomenal.

Oh and that goes for military hubbies as well, but this is a girls site :)

Aw, thanks Tasha. Its so sweet of you to say that!!

Sometimes I feel like I complain a lot. Other military wives can be bi%*&es! lmao. This time, things will be very different. We now live like 3 min from base and I can take advantage of the programs they have to offer and activities for the kids. Im around other women who know what its like (my neighbor has 6 kids and her hubby is always gone but she is an amazing mom and always offers to babysit for me!) and the community is very supportive too. Last time, I was in the middle of nowhere with no family or friends, a 7wk old baby girl, 2 crazy little boys ( mine of course, lol) and going through cancer treatment. It sucked. But, we made it and here we are. 36 days away from getting married and I couldnt be any happier.

Im also thrilled to around wonderful ladies who offer support and encouraging words here on this site. It means more than I think you can imagine. Especially at times like this.  I hope to see some pictures from you girls from your trips! Maybe photoshop me in the background there somewhere? Maybe holding a cocktail or two??  LOL I will pay! HA HA HA

Girl, I will personally listen anytime you need. not cuz I completely understand what you're going through, but because you are entitled to vent. It is tough what you do. Email me anytime.

What you have already overcome is mind-boggling but when your faith is high, anything is possible :) But if you ever do need to talk, I am an email away :)

I have heard other military wives aren't always so nice. I don't really know too many - Ottawa is a big city lol and we don't live anywhere near a 'base' per se. But I have also heard the community centres for military families can be fabulous, particularly in a new city and for kids, babysitting, etc. I always wondered how I would EVER do it with kids on my own. You have my utmost respect, for that, and everything you have been through :)

nidhal- I will post tons of pics! Whenever we can get to a computer... I'm not taking my laptop :( And I love the All-Inclusive thing! I used to be a travel agent so I got super sweet deals on trips. And then when we got there, it was all free! Totally awsome :)

armysgtswifetobe- I'm around too any time you need to talk. I have a few very close guy friends who are in Afganistan right now and that is hard enough! Waiting and wondering if they're ok. Missing them bunches. I can't even imagine what it would be like if that was Janek! I admire your strength and courage, and applaud all military spouses. Let me know if theres anything I can do to make your life easier :)

Aw Tasha, you have made me cry now. Thank you for such kind words!  You to, soontobemrskloch! You girls are so sweet. Its wonderful to think that a "stranger" can be so uplifting and generous just by offering an ear and a heart. Thank you, both of you! I will have to take you up on those offers and to bug ya for traveling pictures! lol :)
