Cheesecake doesn't take reservations, so that's def out! Ixia looks really cool and hip.. but their website hasn't been working lately so we weren't able to get much info. So I asked Chris to come up with 3 more options for venues, he looked at Italian restaurants in Baltimore, since everyone likes Italian. He came up with Amicci's, La Tavola, Aldo's and La Scala We compared prices, what food is included, atmosphere, etc and nixed a couple of them. So we are making progress. They have a "free design" that looks just like what Chris and I want, so that's good! They are kind of expensive in my opinion, especially since we are doing pies too.. but we will see. My favorite flavor was definitely the white almond- it was amazing. They also had a flavor called Butter Pecan that was also reaallly good. The marble would also be a good cake flavor to have in one of the tiers as well. Their butter cream icing was pretty good. We also tried this raspberry ganache that was amazing, I think Chris would really like it. I got a bunch of samples to take home and share with my family. Then on to Cakes Plus. They were crazy busy and a little stand-offish. They didn't have as many cake flavors but had a ton of fillings and icing to try. I did not like their butter cream icing at all! It was very grainy, ick. I took all of the samples home to my family and we all sat around on the deck outside and tasted them. I had them rate them 1-5 and I wrote it all down. It was actually really fun. My dad said that there is no point in doing all this because he will tell me what flavor is the best and he wants all of the leftovers- he loves cake! When I was telling my aunt about how we want to have pie at our reception she was concerned about it being too messy. I thought she had a good point, so I'm going to look into the price of having a bunch of single serving little mini pies for everyone. I have a meeting with our caterer (finally!!) scheduled for next week, I am going to ask them what they would suggest. So the plan is to have a smallish two-tiered cake with a bunch of little berry pies.
