My poor puppies

So, yesterday was possibly one of the worst days of my life. I left work for lunch with my Coty, as usual. While we were eating I got a call from city hall saying my dog was out. I asked which one, we have two. A four year old basset that we just adopted and a 1 year old Rotty/Shepard mix that is our baby. I was concerned that it was Leland, the Rotty, since he's technically illegal within city limits. Well it was. The same cop that has picked him up before found him running around chasing squirrels. I blame this on Coty, because that's what they do on the weekends for fun. Chasing squirrels in the park. Well we decide we will just pick him up after work. We already have to pay the $20 get out of puppy jail fee, so why miss the entire rest of the day.

I hangup and probably 20 minutes later get another call from city hall. This time they tell me to call the chief of police. I'm thinking great....what did he do now. Well it turns out the other one, Missy, bit someone. Now if you knew Missy you would know that she is not aggressive by any means. She wont even play rough with Coty. She pretty much lays around and sleeps. When we get home, the chief of police and another cop are standing in the front yard. They tell us if she even barks at them they have to shoot her. Are you kidding me?!?! Shoot her?? She's the sweetest dog ever. When we get out of the car, she comes running over wagging her tail. She runs to daddy and then right over to the cops to be pet. Real dangerous...let me tell you. The guy that got bit went to the hospital and is planning on suing us. No joke. The chief says it looks like she was barking, IN OUR FRONT YARD, and he kicked her to get her to shut up. And when he went to kick her she bit him. Well no shit she bit him, I would bite someone if they were trying to kick me too. The cops said there was a tiny little scratch on the guys leg, but to expect papers sometime next week. The exact words from the cop were, 'This guy is a peace of shit and will probably try to take you for everything you have'. EXACT WORDS!! Can't be good when the chief of police says that about you.

Well anyways, the cops both right up a report saying she's not vicious and they can't believe she would bite someone without being provoked. They tell us to go to the vet and have them write a similar report. Missy is on house arrest for 10 days, which means she can only go outside 2 times a day to go potty and that has to be right out back and on a leash. (Again, are you freakin kidding me?!?!) The cops have to come over twice a day to 'watch' her and make sure she's not mean or foaming at the mouth. She's a freakin family dog. What the hell??!?! The people we adopted her said they will come to court to stand up for us and the dog. But I don't know how much that will matter since it's his word against her's, and she can't talk.

Then the first week of December we have to go to court for Leland. He got a ticket for 'puppy at large'. Again I kid you not. That's the actual section of the law he broke. So we have to go and beg for the city not to take him from us. We love our dogs. They just somehow keep managing to get out. I'm not sure how, but they will be locked up in the house from now on. What a sad day. We may end up having to get rid of Missy after the 10 days anyway because she's costing us a fortune. Not only does that suck for us because we love her as if she was ours, but because she and Leland are like best dog friends. They play ALL day together and sleep cuddled up together. If we have to separate them, they are going to be devastated.

*UPDATE* Last night Coty was talking to a friend of ours who knows the guy. He told us he doesn't work, is an alcoholic and beats his wife/girlfriend. Sounds like a winner to me. Also, the other night Leland tried to play with this rat looking dog and it really upset the guy. The girl seemed ok about it. I apologized about a million times but told Coty they shouldn't have been in our front yard. Well, I found out last night that this is the same guy. So the night before he got mad at me and Leland for trying to play with his dog, and the next day he just so happens to get bit by our other dog? I call BS on the whole thing. So, I'm going to sit on my front porch and wait for him to walk in my yard tonight and call the cops when he does. He did it last night, but now that I know that's the guy, I'm not letting that happen again! Oh man...I'm heated!

How awful! Don't you just LOVE laws and stupid people?? I hope everything works out....

In response to your comment about you FH not wanting one of your friends even at the wedding...its the same with my friend. I never did ask her to be in the wedding and I am not going to. Although I have avoided telling her I have my bridal party picked out. I think I will blog  about it and write that it was REALLY hard to choose so I chose the friends who have been there for me and Brian from the get-go. That way its telling her but not shunning her....love the politics!

I'd line my front yard with no trespassing signs, and beware of dog signs. When he walks on your yard, shoot him in the leg. lol I'd call the police and tell them the guy has been harassing y'all by walking by your house constantly and file a police report. More ammunition to take him to court. Good luck!
