Wedding Reception
Getting 'er done
I took a bit of a hiatus from this website, and wedding planning in general, for the past few months. I needed time to focus on my career change, move across the province and settle into major urban living. Now that those issues are taken care of, I’m ready to head full force into wedding stressing. Oops, I mean planning ;)

We have tweaked our plans a bit, now opting to have both the ceremony and reception on his parent's rural property. We will rent a tent/floor for the reception and maybe a smaller tent for the ceremony in case of rain. We will also have to rent all of the tables, chairs, flatware, china, etc., but after comparing prices, we will still be thousands of dollars ahead by having it out there than we would having it downtown in my city.

So now 9 months and counting, and a heck of a lot of stuff to get done!!

Wedding Cake
I love this cake!
My fiance and I had decided we would do a cupcake tower instead of a traditional cake, but I found this picture yesterday and may just have to rethink that idea. I LOVE this cake!

Countdown:
400 days to go!!
Shortly after signing into WBC today, I was shocked to see that we only have 400 days left! I know it sounds like a long time away, but I started making a 'To-Do List' and realized we have soooo much to do still! I'm scared! lol So far, we have only accomplished: * Ceremony site * Reception site * Dj We have ideas about what we would like for decor. We have to find a photographer, I have to fall in love with a dress (lol), decide on catering, find a baker for our cupcakes and dessert buffet, decided on STD's & invites, decide on decor, find and book; a florist, rental company, transportation, etc., the list goes on and it is frightening!! We are planning a huge move 4 hours away for August 1, so all wedding plans have taken a backseat until that is over. Luckily, we have plenty of family up here, so wedding planning from 4 hours away wont be very difficult. I just can't wait for the move to be over so I can get back to obsessing over the wedding! **BTW, howcome spacing isnt working? I had this post organized nicely into paragraphs, I pressed 'save' and it got all squished up?!

My DIY Monograms
What I've designed so far...
First off, I want to thank Alybrand and dd977chic for their help. I'm not to computer savy and I couldnt figure out how to upload my pics. Thanks to both of you girls!! These are my monograms so far. I'm still tinkering around, but my fav as of now is the main picture. My initial is A, my FI is B and his last name is L. Im finding using all three tends to look a little strange, so I'm leaning more towards just our first names and wedding date. Also, the pink seems a little light in these pictures, on my powerpoint it looks a little darker (which is what I prefer). Anywho, just wanted to share my creations thus far!

How do I...
Upload my monograms?!
I've spent countless hours trying to make some monograms, but now I cannot figure out how to upload them here. I made them in MS PowerPoint, I highlight the entire monogram and select 'Save As' and I've tried all the different options. Either it distorts my colours (picture 1), omits some stuff (picture 2) or turns everything black (picture 3). What am I doing wrong? Could somebody please steer me in the right direction?? Thanks so much!!

Wedding Cake
Monogrammed cake topper...
This is definitely what we want for our cake topper. I have yet to find any that are reasonably priced, however. I have seen them for upwards of $200!!
So, I've begun pricing how much it would cost DIY. I think I can get most of the supplies from Michael's, and have seen other brides on here make them before. I just cannot justify spending so much money on such a small item!

Wedding Invitation
Who knew this would be such a tough decision?!
I am having such a tough time narrowing down what I want for our invitations and the rest of the stationary.
I'm not 'loving' anything I've seen so far. Plenty of ideas I like, but nothing stands out yet. Since I will most likely be making the invites myself, as well as the rest of the stationary to match, I'd like to start making some decisions as to the style soon. If I can find perfect invites and corresponding stationary (placecards, programs, menus, etc) through a catalouge or online, I'd much prefer to buy everything. But, I'm super picky so highly doubt it.
And I thought this would be one of the easier decisions to make... haha

Budget and Guestlist
Just Call me Miss Organized....
I've spent this past weekend creating a wedding budget and guestlist in Microsoft Excel. It took several attempts, a full bottle of wine and numerous profanities, but I did it!

My budget is organized into several groups, such as 'Ceremony'; 'Flowers'; 'Attire', etc, and has columns for 'Estimated Expense', 'Actual Expense', 'Amount Over/Under', 'Deposit amount' and 'due dates', etc. It updates itself with a running total of what I've spent so far, what my final estimated budget is, etc.

My guestlist keeps track of total number of guets, how many invitations are needed, total number of adults/children, if the invitation was sent, RSVP, Gift recieved, thank you sent, etc.

I"m now super organized and slightly geeky!!

Wedding Cake
We've made a decision...
After talking it over with my fiance, he mentioned that he prefers cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake. I like the idea too, so, cupcakes it is!
Our plan is to have a cupcake tower, like in the picture. They will be all one flavour, probably chocolate or vanilla, and will all be identical. We will have a small cake on top for the traditional cake-cutting.
We are also planning to have a dessert buffet, so we will have small (bite sized) cupcakes on the dessert buffet in different flavours. By having several different flavours, we should be able to appeal to everyones tastes. Some ideas we had were chocolate, vanilla, coconut, raspberry (or blueberry, or strawberry), oreo cookie (more for the kids, and my fiance), coffee bean, etc. If anyone has any tasty ideas, please feel free to share! These were just quick ideas, we'll keep our eyes open for unique or different flavours along the way.
I like the combo of a stylish and coordinated cupcake tower on display, and a variety of flavours on the buffet. The tower will look nice for the cake cutting ceremony and in the pictures, and the cupcakes on the dessert buffet can be a variety of colours, looks, etc.
So its win-win!

Wedding Cake
Black, white and delicious!
I've been keeping my eye open these past few weeks for black and white cake pictures. My favourite so far is the simple, all white cake with black ribbon. We've also been discussing the idea of a cupcake tower instead of a cake, but making a decision on anything is so difficult!
