#2 Drink Ticket as favor

were undecided about an open bar...we heard they are really costly...
so we were thinking of having a cash bar and giving everyone a drink ticket for 1 free drink on the wedding couple as a thank u for joining us on our day and the rest they will have to buy themselves...

The non alcohol drinks will be free as well as the white/red wine at the table

and for those that don't want the ticket they can just pass on to someone else

OR

Have an open bar when guests first arrive...and then close it down for dinner...then open it back up after dinner and have it become a cash bar...

what to do? what to do?

Oh should I mention that we are having NO KIDS...the age limit is 19...
My kids will be at the ceremony (as my flower girl...and ring boy)
otherwise there will be no kids

i am in the same boat as you!!!  we finally decided to have a cash bar - but are putting two bottles of wine per table (one white and one red) and giving two free drink tickets.  we just recently finished making our tickets, and i will be posting the pics tonight!  so check out my blog later if you want to see what we put together.

Both of our families are big drinkers so instead of having an open bar we are having a toonie bar (all drinks are $2).... and we are giving out 1 Free Drink ticket with thier favors.

I like your open bar in the begining and then a cash bar after dinner idea...that way they don't have to pay for their own drinks ALL night.
@hashbrown~what is a toonie bar??

i would say open bar before supper and then cash bar after supper. That is pretty normal where i come from. With a cash bar there is a lot more waste, and for teh cash bar the drinks are pretty cheap anyways!

I am having this same struggle... I feel like its somewhat rude to make guests buy their drinks but we are already paying $50/person for dinner.  We are really struggling with our budget and I just don't think we can do it.  The Summit charges $25/bottle for wine and they get 4 glasses per bottle.  They charge $140/bottle of liquor and get 26 drinks/bottle.  They do not have kegs so beer is by the bottle only which is $3 if we have an open bar.  Cash bar is $5.50/bottle for beer, $6/glass of wine, $7/mixed drink.  Even if we did beer and wine only during cocktail hour it would still cost around $2,000... Ugh who knows what to do!?!?!
