Ask a Question
How could I convince him to exchange vows?

I really, really, what us write & exchange vows before we say 'I do'.

My Fiance says "absolutely not" because he doesn't think its something we need to say in front of everyone, and I can respect that...but do you have any ideas how we can exchange vows, but maybe not publicly, but in a memorable way where we can both get what we want?

My fiance and I are actually writing our own vows, and he's really the one who initally suggested the idea, so I was glad. Another idea that would be nice and personal, but wouldn't be as much pressure is to each write a paragraph about why you love the other person/why you want to marry that person, and have your officiant read an exerpt from each paragraph. then you could go into the more tradiational recite/repeat vows. Our officiant said this is something he likes to do with couples because it shares something personal, but isn't necessarily both of you reading entire vows to each other. What do you think? Hope this helps!! :) Good luck.

If you want something personally written by him, you could ask him if you could both write personal cards/letters/notes to each other, including your self-written vows, and then have them delivered to each other before the ceremony.  That way it remains private, but is also very personal.

you could always say them at the unity candle together... our wedding was outdoors and joel was crying so we both spoke softly and noone heard the major vows and we still shared them.  Check out my vows blog on my page, we wrote our own, but actually pieced them from other vows we liked.  Good luck and have fun with the rest of your planning!

one of my friends told me about a wedding that she went to once where the bride and groom wrote their own vows. she said that instead of saying them loud enough for everyone to hear them they got really close and whispered their vows to each other. with their heads touching or something like that. i didn't see it so i don't know how it came across. but just something different that i heard that i thought i'd pass along :)
