Ask a Question
TRASH THE DRESS.....
How many of you have heard of this new fad? What are your thoughts?
Are any of you considering "Trashing your dress" once the wedding is
all over? Or, do you think it's just plain nuts? I mean, come on....you go
and spend hundreds, or even thousands of dollars on a dress....and
then go and destroy it???

Well....I, myself am considering it.
The symbolism of it, they say is that you are showing your husband
that this was your one and only time that you will ever get married,
and that you will need to wear a wedding dress again.
The first time I heard of it was at a bridal show I attended earlier this
year. At first I thougth, you've got to be kidding- someone would have
to be crazy, stupid or both to do that!
However.....after thinking about it, I decided I would have a hella Great time
doing the photoshoot.
The photographer we are using is one that I have used several times
for my modeling portfolio. He is a lot of fun, and I know he will have a
blast shooting it with me. Plus, what else am I going to do with the
dress after the wedding??
Unfortunately, I know I will never be able to have a daughter to pass the
dress down to, so no one else will ever wear it. So, why shouldn't I
have a great time in it, twice!?
I plan on having mine cleaned, and keeping it afterward....so either way,
it's just going to hang in the closet! Only then I'll have an extra story to tell
about my dress!

Yea, I don't think I will shread mine or anything...but it may get a litlle dirty.
I really like the photos with the groom and bride getting dirty together though too!
Another option is to just get a cheap second dress for the shoot. Then you could do anything to it, with out the guilt!

heard of it. seen it. and it's just not my scene. :) i love my dress too much and although it would be perfect being that my wedding is in the Dominican Republic - i just can't do that. Plus, I want to wear it to my At Home Reception. It is a pretty cool concept though! If you decide to do it – post some pictures!   [10 days to go]

I'm thinking about it.  But I want to do something in the water. I was thinking in a pool with some under the water shots would be cool.

I had suggested to my firend & I to buy some really cheap wedding dresses and then have a photographer take pics of us in Lake Michigan being silly......

I saw a few pictures of multiple brides while I was searching the web for Trash the dress photos, and thought that would be a lot of fun if I had a friend getting married around the same time.

I think this is awesome! I love seeing pics. I've even seen pics of it on fire too! However, as much as I paid for mine, I just can't bring myself to do it! Plus I'm wearing it again in July for ANOTHER reception with family in central CA.

i think it's a neat concept. however i reall think there are gestures you could make that would make a better impression, and possibly help someone in the process. like selling your dress and donating the proceeds to your favorite charity. how can you  destroy somehthing thats worth so much money when there are children starving in the world?

The photographer I'm still deciding on does this...
Lindseycotton.com   Not sure if I would want to do this... But its different...

I respect your opinion of selling the dress and giving the money to charity.
However, my dress will have huge significant meaning to me, I don't want to get rid of it.   Regardless of if I 'Trash" it, or not....either way I will clean it in the end...and keep it to pull out and look at from time to time.

I'm totally doing it. One of the photographers I'm friends with is so eager about the idea- he can't wait! I'm not doing the whole dirt, in the pool type shoot, but we're definitely going to get creative with it. I'd like the dress to not get trashed entirely though. I think its a fun, creative way of getting some really awesome photos.

I've thought about doing it, but not rolling around in mud like the pictures you showed above.  Maybe something with water.  I also really want to take some at the Fire Station where the future Fi works, so that won't be *trashing* the dress, but I'm sure it will be getting it dirty!

When I first heard about it I thought it was dumb. But then I got a little curious and did some research. I ended up coming across pictures of one couples TTD session and fell in love with them. So we are doing it. I'm not destroying my dress but it will get a little dirty since our session will be on the beach and in the ocean (we're doing it on our honeymoon in Hawaii). I won't be wearing my wedding dress though, just something similar. Both dresses are going to be handmade but not at all expensive. I was going to keep my dress anyways. I'm so excited and just contacted that couple's photographer about it.

I honestly think this is something that the wedding industry came up with to keep people from selling their dresses.  This way your gown that cost $100 to make and $1000 to buy doesn't keep another bride from saving money and forces them to shove yet another $1000 into the bridal designer's pockets.

I love my dress way too much to destroy it.  I could never do this to my dress!
