Ask a Question
Kinda Personal: Regarding Bras, cleavage-or my lack there of! LOL!
Ok, so I wouldn't normally go public with this type of issue....lol, but I don't personally know too many people with my 'problem'. I'm hoping there are some brides on here that 'feel my pain', and may be able to offer some advice.

I had to laugh yesterday when I noticed a post asking if there was such a thing as 'too much cleavage.' I can't even begin to be able to relate to that! My problem is quite the opposite!

My question is; what do I look for to 'create' a little cleavage for my wedding day? I know I need something more than just a push up bra! Not to get too technical, but I need something to probably push them together, as well as lift to get any kind of effect.
Is a corset what I should be looking for? Aren't there several different types of those? And, as uncomfortable as I have heard that they are, Im kind of worried about that. Plus, I am wearing a very form fitting dress, so I don't want a lot of lines.

Any ideas would be soooo greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!

You can buy pushup bras that have gel padding in them, that might help to give you some more cleavage.

I saw that post too.. and got very jelous! I would love to have two bumps in my wedding dress, cleavage would just be a dream come true! haha I know my solution is "chicken cutlets". I wear them just about every day. I think I might get a corset and wear my fake boobies with that. I want to look great, and will do what ever it takes! :-)

Ooo, I saw an episode about this stuff on Oprah. It was years ago, though, so I can't remember much, but I do remember they actually used makeup to sort of enhance the appearance of a cleavage line.

I took a look at your dress (lovely, by the way :D) and you said it seems big. It seems like the neckline will probably be a bit lower once you get a properly-sized one, and might allow for a bit of makeup if you would be interested in using that effect. You'd only need to go a shade or two darker than your skin tone (and practice beforehand! lol. Or consult a makeup artist if you are using one for your day).

I personally would go with a push-up bra (with those gel inserts) over a corset. The shape a properly-fitted corset will give you isn't natural. While it gives your cleavage "oomph", the actual line of the dress will be quite flat. Corsets are meant to hold things in more than anything else. You have a nice figure, so I wouldn't really worry about that. Corsets are also incredibly uncomfortable (especially for long periods of time). I'm sure you've seen Pirates of the Caribbean where Kiera Knightley has trouble breathing in hers, and Nicole Kidman's corset actually caused her to break a rib during the filming of Moulin Rouge. While these are extreme cases, I do know of a woman who got married with something holding tight to her (like a corset) and her stomach got really upset because her insides got all compressed (especially during the meal), and she didn't enjoy her day at all.

SEE, LOL- That is what I am talking about with my scare of corsets! But, I've worn push up bras all my life....and they don't help all that much! (I'm a very small 'B' by the way)

OH- and here is my other delima....strapless bras- don't like to stay put on me either.

And- what the heck is a chicken cutlet?? lol  :0)

wonder bra maybe? corsets can be tough. go for something more like a merry widow that won't hurt you as much. They do make gel pads....

OH! Go to a Sally Beauty Supply Store.... they sell gel inserts that go into your bra that'll give you some shape and push what you have upwards to create a cleavage. And yes make up does work. Make sure you talk to a make up artist and dont attempt to apply bronzer and then get it all over your dress.

haha...i call them chicken cutlets too!  she's talking about the gel inserts you can buy at LaSenza or Victoria's Secret.  you're a bigger cup size than me!  i use to be 32AA but i've put on some weight and now i am a proud 34A.  i've actually never used the gel inserts i bought cuz they wouldn't fit in my A cup bra.  i think you need to buy a cup size bigger.  but i may end up using them for the wedding.  personally i don't like wearing padded bras.  I think breasts are beautiful in all different sizes and i don't buy into thinking bigger is better.  there are some gorgeous women with A cup boobs.  the reason i sometimes do wear a padded bra is because some clothes make me look even smaller than I am!!  anyways...don't think you're alone out there and try think of it as this is how God made you. :)

ps!  i just looked at your dress and it's GORGEOUS on you!  a touch big but when it's fitted it'll be great...cleavage or no cleavage!  :)

I have been wondering the same thing for me! I haven't tried on dresses yet, but I know it will be a problem. I'm an A, and push up bras do pretty much nothing, with padding and all. I've never had cleavage in my life haha.  I don't like insert type things because as much as i want cleavage, I don't like to think that that's not really what I look like, you know? I feel like I'm faking it and I don't like  the thought of it, it just bothers me.  also I don't want it to be a huge shocker when I walk down the aisle with these boobs i never had before, LOL. i think my fiance would be shocked, and I know he would prefer them the way they are already. but any of these ideas are good if you are comfortable with them!

I know this may not help, but really -- you don't need cleavage to look pretty!!!  I think cleavage looks really trashy 99.9% of the time.  I have a very small chest and it's taken me absolutely forever to come to grips with it.  Pretending you're bigger than you are just makes you feel bad about yourself.  Small breasts are pretty and your fiance clearly loves you how you are, unless you've been lying to him with super padding all along!! :)  Help yourself and all the rest of the small-chested girls out there - don't buy into to the lie that bigger is better.  You'll just perpetuate it and keep making people feel bad about their bodies when they are really beautiful, and when there are so many more important things.  I saw your pictures are your dress looks great on you.  It doesn't need cleavage - once it fits perfectly after alterations, it will be SO flattering it won't even matter.

I too think that cleaveage often looks trashy especially for weddings. I have the same problem and the lady at the dress shop told me can actually sew in padding to the dress.

This totally depends on the style of dress you are going to wear. They (whoever they are) recommend halter style dresses to those who aren't big busted, this draws attention away from the cleavage and to the shoulder area. If you can get away with it wear a push up bra, they come in all different styles, strapless, criss cross, halter, one strap etc..

I worked at LaSenza for 5 years, The "chicken cutlets" lol also known as gel inserts are PERFECT for your wedding dress, the key to get the look of bigger boobies and pushing them together is to put the inserts on an angle on the sides of your breasts when you're wearing a bra or corset.. Let me attempt to draw a picture on here with symbols because its kinda hard to explain.. lol..
\ and / = Inserts
" ( " and " )" =  Bra
O = Breasts
( \OO/ )

So this way the inserts are slightly under the breast and on the sides as well so the bra helps push them together as well as lift them.. hope this helps.. and trust me you're not the only one out there who has this problem, i defiantly do too,but by knowing the tricks people actually think ihave a decent size rack :)

When I worked at LaSenza the gel inserts were $8.50.. I'm not sure if this has changed tho.. Good Luck

I totally relate to you!!! In order for me to have cleavage I'm pretty sure fat would have to be pulled from my thighs up that's how little cleavage I have.  The person at David's Bridal told me they could actually sew some type of padding in the bra part--where I was so small it was actually sinking in the middle haha!  All I know to tell ya is embrace it and be glad for what you have no matter how small the amount is haha!

Btw I just looked at your dress-very pretty.  I don't think cleavage is needed you look beautiful in the dress without any special effects.

Just for the record....I'm not trying to have anything 'spilling' out my my dress. lol
My FH does love me the way that I am, and so do I.
I would just like to have a little 'sexy' added to the look of my dress that day.
I do know what you girls mean with the trashy look, but that isn't what I'm going for. LOL, in fact even if it were, I would never be able to pull it off.
I want to look natural, but just a little 'enhanced.'  I just don't want the top of the dress to lay compleatly flat against my chest, nor do I want it sticking out from my body- empty, where everyone can see down it...... LOL, do you know what I mean?
I just want to look like a beautiful 'woman' that day. Not, the tomboy I once was as a child.

BTW- Thank you girls for all the comments about my dress. I really love it too, but seeing the pictures of me in it makes me so insecure because it looks nothing like the one I ordered. It helps getting such nice complements from you girls!

daniellexoxo, thank you for the demonstration! LOL It was very helpful, but I just had to laugh! I actually didn't know that is what you were supposed to do with them. I will definitely have to try that!

I would also suggest something like the "chicken cutlets". I have some called "clevage cupakes". I ordered them a while ago from the Blissworld website. I love them. I always wear them for special occasion or when I need a little extra. they are gel like, so they are really comfortable, you don't even know they are in your bra.

I wear a 32A bra. I decided I wanted some cleavage for my V neck dress so I wore a NuBra http://www.nubra.com/ which pushed the girls together and lifted them up and then I had my seamstress sew bra cups into my dress to fill in the "space" and make the cleavage look more natural. I loved the end result :)
