Ceremony music
live music vs. special recorded song
Have you chosen your ceremony music yet? I don't know exactly why but ever since I began wedding planning a particular song stuck out in my mind and I always knew I wanted to walk down the aisle to this song. I know it's not as nice as having live musicians play something for us, so I am not completely decided on this yet, as long as I can have this song played at some important moment of the wedding (i.e. maybe for our first dance or something) but I really hoped to have it incorporated somewhere special. I just absolutely LOVE it.

It's called "Ready for love" by India Arie. I first played it for Derrick a few months ago and told him I really loved it and that it always made me think of him. He got tears in his eyes listening to it. We listened to it again the other day and both teared up. He says he doesn't know if he could actually have me walk down the aisle to this, as it's a very emotional song - I think he's afraid of getting all sobby in front of everyone and to be honest so am I!! lol... but we'll see. Here it is (This is not the official video but a live version - the official video doesn't have an embed option).

Here are the lyrics:

"Ready For Love"

I am ready for love
Why are you hiding from me
I'd quickly give my freedom
To be held in your captivity

I am ready for love
All of the joy and the pain
And all the time that it takes
Just to stay in your good grace
Lately I've been thinking
Maybe you're not ready for me
Maybe you think I need to learn maturity
They say watch what you ask for
Cause you might receive
But if you ask me tomorrow
I'll say the same thing

I am ready for love
Would you please lend me your ear?
I promise I won't complain
I just need you to acknowledge I am here

If you give me half a chance
I'll prove this to you
I will be patient, kind, faithful and true
To a man who loves music
A man who loves art
Respect's the spirit world
And thinks with his heart

I am ready for love
If you'll take me in your hands
I will learn what you teach
And do the best that I can

I am ready for love
Here with an offering of
My voice
My Eyes
My soul
My mind

Tell me what is enough
To prove I am ready for love

I am ready

This is one of my most favorite songs ever. I'm putting it on the CD that we're putting in the guests goodie bags.

I knew i couldn't be the only one who has such admiration for this song. India has such an amazing voice... just unbelievable.

Did you know that the lyrics in this song are actually about her praying to g-d that he'll send her love? I think it's even more beautiful because of that. And I considered that because it's not actually a woman speaking to a man that she loves, about their relationship, that it might not seem fitting for a wedding but to me, spirituality is important in a relationship, even if it doesn't follow organized religion... so it's even more symbolic I think, because of that. What are your thoughts?
