Wedding Flowers
Tropical chic sophistication: orchids, manzanita and LOTS of candles!
My florist is in the midst of getting me pricing on this concept and I'm hoping we can make it work!

The idea is that we'll alternate tables so that half the tables have the deep pink boxed centrepiece with the branches, while the other half have the lighter centrepieces of grouped pillar candle vases, and orchids on top. I want tons of candles surrounding each of the centrepieces. Alternating table decor creates visual interest, so that's what I'm trying to do.

I'm still stumped on what to do for table linens though. Maybe I'll alternate light and dark table cloths as well, so that the tables with the lighter centrepiece have a darker linen, while the tables w/ the darker centrepiece have a lighter one. What colour though???

My palette is fuschia or magenta (a bold pinky purply colour), white, light pink, and silver - possibly going to use black, brown or some other dark colour as an accent. I am also toying w/ the idea of changing the colour of the box the fuschia flowers are in, to white from black, to give it more of a South Beach vibe since that was the original look I was going for, all along.

I am not sure yet what the bridesmaid bouquets will look like, as ideally they will match the centrepieces, but I really love the colour combination used in the image I added here. :) So, the mission continues. We're on our way though!

Madison 3545 - I think this is the one!! Made in raw silk with a sweetheart neckline, corset back, beautiful skirt detail, and asymmetrical waistline & ruching on an asymmetrically wrapped bodice. *love*

This dress sort of reminds me of a Maggie Sottero or a Sottero & Midgely style. I LOVE Maggie dresses!

Wedding Dress
Madison Collection - Style 3545
The Madison Collection of bridal gowns is a designer line under a company name in Canada called the Richman Group. They also own the Cassidy Sara line of dresses and one more which I cannot remember off the top of my head.

Anyway here she is (PIC #1), I think this is "my dress!" I don't have a photo of me in it just yet but what do you girls think? (click the image to see it more closeup).

****FOR COMPARISON I ADDED PICS AT LEFT, OF 2 OTHER DRESS FAVES THAT YOU LADIES VOTED ON IN A PREVIOUS POST WHERE i ASKED YOU TO TELL ME WHAT YOUR FAVE DRESS WAS ON ME - ****

I have been unsuccessful in finding a picture anywhere online showcasing what this dress looks like from the back. It's not a huge train, it's maybe a chapel train but I don't even think it's that big.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS DRESS:

-SWEETHEART NECkLINE
Elongates me; gives longer distance between my face, or my collarbone and the dress. I found straight across dresses were nice but because I'm barely 5' tall, they often were made for someone w/ a much longer torso and they came up higher than they should.

-ASYMMETRICAL WAISTLINE AND RUCHING ON BODICE
The fabric on the bodice is wrapped asymmetrically and ruched (bunched) very nicely. The ruching is neither too puffy nor does it look like I've been mummy wrapped. The fitted bodice and asymmetrical waistline elongates me and makes my waist look nice and small.

-CORSET BACK
Sucks everything in but remains comfortable and really calls attention to my curves in the RIGHT places.

-SKIRT DETAIL
This dress features beautiful draping and pickups/gathers in all the right places. The pickups are not so poofy that I'm drowning in the dress, like many other styles I tried on in similar styles. Each gather is fixed in place with white/clear shimmery crystal beading or applique (can't remember which).

-RAW SILK
This dress is made with raw silk. It is very lightweight though not as lightweight as the Paloma Blanca silk - OMG - I could pick up those dresses with one arm like as if it was just a regular dress and not this behemoth that some of these dresses feel like on you or even just when picking them up!!). But still it is light enough that I feel comfortable in it and don't feel weighted down or exhausted just having it on which is nice when you know you're going to be wearing it outdoors in July for about 12 hours.

-MINIMAL ALTERATIONS REQUIRED
I think all i will need to do with this dress is hem it to my length and take in the bust since my bottom half is 2 sizes bigger than my top half and I have to order to fit the biggest part of me - my hips/rear end (they would have to cut it to where the last row of "gathers" is basically, and then let out the last row of gathers so it hangs the way the bottom is supposed to in this style.

Surprisingly the detail in this dress enhances all the right things while detracting attention from all the wrong things. It really balances me out so I look like I have an hourglass figure as opposed to a pear shape figure. The bust is also very sparkly as is the back of the bodice on either side of the corset.

It's a little more than I planned to spend but not that much... and at the end of the day, it requires less alterations than some of the others I was looking at, so I think this is my dress. Going to try it on again today and then I'll know for SURE but I'm already pretty sure.

It is more a ballgown style and I really had wanted something more informal for my outdoor wedding, but I just can't find anything that looks great on me in the style I envisioned, so I guess I just have to go with what looks good on me. :) Hopefully my fiance likes it.

I asked him last night what he thinks I'm going to wear on the big day, and he said he didn't know. I said well what do you THINK I will pick? He said he thought I would probably wear something fitted and flared at the bottom, I think he's talking about a trumpet or mermaid style. I WISH that's what I could wear... but it's not going to happen. LOL I can't get the darn samples on in those styles (in most cases).

However, I WAS able to try on size 12's yesterday which is a change... they didn't do up in the back but I was able to get them on and over my hips so I could at least SEE what they look like on me. I tried on a few Paloma Blancas which I LOVED... and almost decided on, but I liked this one more. The Paloma Blanca I tried on had a dropped waist and it wouldn't have done for me what this one does, to balance my curves out. This one was a little more bling which I guess I'm drawn to as well. :)

Bridesmaids
What is your price range for their dress?
Are you paying or are they? My FSIL says $300 is too high. Isn't $200-$300 average for Bridesmaid attire?

I haven't chosen a dress yet but I have been drawn to ones in the $200-300 range. What are your thoughts?

which dress style is best on me?
EDITED TO ADD:

Well ladies, I have found yet another dress that I like better than I think any of these other ones. Wanted to share it here and see what you think! I have added it in a new post, above. :)

Thanks again for all your thoughts and comments! They are always welcome!

ORIGINAL POST:
Calling all WBC ladies... PLLLEEEEAASSSEE HELP ME!!! AHHHH!! my wedding is 7 months away, and I have yet to have the dress "moment." I'm getting really, really frustrated and SO tired of dress shopping!! (believe it or not)

I gained about 6lbs over the course of the holidays and now I have to go back to dress shopping. I'm so short that those 5-7lbs gained are basically like a whole dress size on me. And, I'm so tired of dress shopping, the dresses I thought I liked on me, are no longer "doing it" for me. Help me choose my dress! :)

Sadly, these are like, the best of the bunch - PLEASE ignore the terrible double chin faces I'm making as pics are being taken as I'm adjusting the dresses, etc. LOL.

The truth is, I have yet to find a dress I truly LOVE - ON me. :( The reality is, the dresses I LOVE just don't fit me (in sample sizes). So, I was only able to try on the dresses they had available, and these are the best of the bunch. PLEASE tell me which one you like the best on me. :) Thanks!

Dress 1 (pics 1 - 7): Private Label by G - style 1350

Dress 2 (pics 8 & 9): Ella Rosa I think it's called?

Dress 3 (pic 10): Unsure of label name but princess style corset ballgown

Dress 4 (pic 11): "Anson" from the Blu by Enzoani 2009 collection

Dress 5 (pics 12-15): Jayne Louis

HELP!!!! Thanks in advance... :)

Pink WOW Wedding looks of the day Glitz + glam + sophisticated details + great lighting = WOW!
112707_valentine05_a
love the mix of crystal, ambient mood lighting, white draping, and comfortable lounge seating in this set up. I am a huge fan of all-white looks with just a splash of colour - it really helps pull the whole thing together in a modern yet elegant way.
Note how the damask pattern in the throw pillows plays off the look of the chandelier, tying the whole of this vintage glam decor look together perfectly, without being damask or brocade overkill. Now, THAT's class. A more masculine look than the previous ones here, but a classy look, nonetheless. Sort of reminds me of a high class cigar bar.
great look for an ice or water themed wedding.
use of the lit pool makes for a fabulous centrepiece to the event!
Whimsical, romantic, like a wedding from a real live fairy tale.
Another all white wedding look with a splash of colour from use of sophisticated lighting. Another unique chair cover look for chiavari chairs.

New Year's Resolutions
#1 Resolution - to lose weight and get in shape
Yes, add me to the long list of brides to be who want to make "lose weight and get in shape" their #1 priority in 2009. I joined a gym YEARS ago, it was actually a gift from Derrick to me back about 7 years ago. I've been an on/off gym-goer since. Have had about 4 rounds of personal training for 2-3 months each time, and spent countless hours not to mention dollars TRYING to lose weight and get in shape only to land myself right back at square one in the end. Who else is on this vicious cycle who wants to break it for once and for all in 2009? Is it you???

It's definitely ME. I have accomplished SOMETHING. After gaining a steady 10 lbs a year (yes, 10 lbs a year ladies) I gained a lump sum (and I do mean LUMP sum) of 25 lbs, in 2005. I finally said "THIS IS IT - NO MORE." So that was when I hired a trainer for the first time and tried to hop to it (literally). I managed to NOT gain a pound more than I already had, between 2005 and 2006. Which was for me, a huge accomplishment, I kid you not. After all those years of gaining and gaining year over year finally, I had managed NOT to gain - but I hadn't lost much either - save for a couple of pounds and a few inches. Well, it was something, but for me it wasn't enough, fast enough and I soon lost motivation and fell off the wagon - again.

In 2007 I really worked hard for the first 6 months of the year and managed to lose 15lbs by hitting the gym a few times a week, and also doing a "learn to run" clinic w/ a group FROM the gym. Unfortunately I injured myself with the running (I'm SO not made for that sport) and fell off the wagon again. I gained about 7 lbs of my 15 lb loss back between June and August or September which was depressing. In September or so, I got back on the wagon and joined a website called "The Daily Plate" where I managed to track everything I ate and did, every day to help get me back on track. I do SO much better when I track everything that goes in my mouth throughout the day but it can be SO time consuming. Worth it but time consuming nonetheless.

The Daily Plate tracking program enabled me to lose about 6 of the 7lbs I'd gained back which is great, but I've still not managed to break that 15lb barrier which I'd lost in the first half of 2008. HELP!!!

I am vowing here and now to get back to the gym as often as possible, to stop eating all this CRAP I keep putting in my mouth and to stop letting myself sit around on my butt so much. I have to start walking every day again even if it's cold, it's better than doing nothing, and it's refreshing!! Even just a 20-30 min. walk every day is something - I can do it in the mall if not outside. I LOVE THE MALL so that should be easy! LOL

So Monday's and Wednesdays I want to be in the gym, if not 3-4 times a week which I am going to aim for.

Mondays at 5:45pm there is a NEWBODY class that I love to do, so going to start that tomorrow if possible (need someone to watch Derrick's son for me but if I can manage that then I'm going!)

Wednesdays at 5:45pm is BodyStep which is a high impact step aerobics class which is bound (if i can manage it) to help me lose some inches in my butt, hips and thighs, where I need it most.

At least once a week I have to do weights, so maybe that would be on Fridays. In between I will try to walk every single day if not hit the gym for just 20-30 min for some cardio.

And I have to get back on my GI diet plan - it has been one that I have been VERY successful with - but I stopped following it. No more BAD carbs - only good ones. Gotta drink MORE water again and MORE vegetables and whole grains. Lots of lean protein. HEALTHY 2009, HERE I COME!!

So that is my plan. Wish me luck!!! I wish you all a TON of luck as well. :) Happy New Year ladies!

Ask a Question
What have you done so far?
Oh my gosh... only 193 days until my wedding and I still have SO very much to do!!!

I have not yet hired any of my vendors other than my wedding coordinator for the month leading up to and including the big day (who has been wonderful along the way at answering any questions that I have and making recommendations where needed), and the venue.

We still need an officiant, a DJ, a decorator, a photographer (We haven't even done engagement photos yet nor have we had an engagement party and it doesn't look like we will since no one has volunteered to hold one for us), not sure yet if we need a videographer or not but I'd like one... also need a florist, a caterer, invitations, favours, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something... oh yes, my dress!!! And Derrick's ring. And a cake. And the Bridal party attire. That said we are closer to making decisions now - let's just say that January is going to be a VERY busy month! OH!! And transportation too!!

Here are our vendors and vendor choices at the moment:

Ceremony & Reception Venue:
Miller Lash House in Toronto, Ontario (booked)

Wedding Coordinator:
Crystal Adair-Bening of Distinct Occasions (booked)

Officiant:
Casandra Hart of Hart2Heart.ca

Photographer:
We met with Lindsay from HRM Photography and loved her and her prices were ok but still a bit high. Met a bunch of other photographers at the bridal show on the weekend and need to get in touch!

Videographer:
-Calico Cat Productions - received quote of $1800 - looking to compare - have met others at bridal show and need to contact them.

Caterer:
Toss up between En Ville and Daniel et Daniel. Our planner highly recommends we go with D&D though their prices are higher than En Ville's and the rep we were dealing with at En Ville who also happens to be a world class chef, really seemed to "get" our vision a bit better and was willing to work within our budget more than D&D was. We really liked him but I don't want to compromise quality or quantity just because I like someone better... so this is a tough decision. Need to get in touch w/ them again.

Cake:
Have to do tastings but places I am interested in include:
-I do wedding cakes (Olivia, very talented, did her internship with Dufflet)
-Dufflet (unbelievable longstanding reputation in Toronto but high prices)
-My coordinator recommends Marmalade Cakes in Toronto - i'm not impressed by the website but am willing to see them in person if in budget to see if I change my mind.
-Just Temptations in Mississauga
-The Wedding Cake Shoppe (love their designs, cake is just so-so though!) - have an appointment for Fri. Jan 15/09 - stay tuned.

DJ & Entertainment:
No idea!! We got a quote from one but have nothing to compare it to nor have we heard them perform. We have nothing to compare them to... I have no idea how to choose a DJ without actually attending an event they are DJ-ing. HELP!!

Florist (possibilities):
-Pink Twig
-Rainflower Company - meeting w/ her Monday for coffee
-Stemz
-Fresh on the Danforth
-Rachel A. Clingen (also a decorator - need to book an appointment!)

Invitations (contenders):
-Love AlannahRose.com.au but unfortunately they are way out of my price range... hoping to find something local that is half that price but not sure it's likely. Don't want to pay more than $5 per.
Other invitation printers/designers I have found nice invitations at:
-SimpleWishes.ca (Barrie)
-UniqueInvites.ca (St. Catherines) - I think they are just a reseller
-CartaBlanca.ca (Oakville)
-Custom Printing & Graphics (Mississauga) - I think they are just a reseller
-LovetheCard.ca (love them but way out of my price range - about $8 per invite and up)
-Esco Designs - really nice guy, met him at the Cdn. Bridal Show (Evgenii aka Eugene), have to go see him in person and see what we can do.

Bridesmaids dresses:
Designers I like - Jim Hjelm, Lazaro, Dessy, Enzoani, Alvina Valenta
Stores I like - Ritche, Dressroom on the Danforth, Becker's
Colours I like - magenta, blackberry, antique rose, hibiscus, azalea, sunkissed, mango, fawn, gunmetal, platinum, pool

Groomsmen's attire:
-Moore's possibly (2 GM's live out of town so ideally a franchise where they can pick up and return their attire at a store local to them)

Wedding bands:
-I have mine already, came with my engagement ring from People's.
-Found 2 very nice ones at People's but Derrick wants to think about it. We are looking at white gold.

Transportation:
-No idea yet... too many to choose from!

OH my.... my head is spinning just THINKING of everything left to do!!

Merry Christmas
..and a Happy Chanukah to all those who are celebrating!
My family is Jewish. Derrick's family is Christian. We've made it work so far... this is our 9th Christmas/Chanukah season together. We are both very liberal obviously or else we wouldn't be together now would we?! :) In our house we celebrate "Christmakkuh" ... or is it "Chanumas?" LOL

Anyway, Happy Holidays and Season's Greetings to you all, from our home to yours. Here's hoping Santa is good to you all this year!!

p.s. Enjoy the photos at left.... I tried to look for some really nice photos of both Christmas and Chanukah (aka Hanukkah depending who you ask) to include here. Unfortunately there just aren't many really nice Chanukah party photos floating around though there are plenty of images of menorahs, etc. - face it, Christmas is just a way bigger holiday.

And, I included some photos of how WE celebrate the holidays at OUR house (Derrick and I). :) Enjoy!

I don't know how ambitious I will be feeling come July (when it's hot no less) but I absolutely love these, they are SO adorable!! I would love to offer them on the sweet table or as a favour though we will likely do a candy buffet so may think about using them there.

Inspiration & Ideas 2 - Boutonnieres
Derrick is drawn to simple, modern looks. He likes orchids and other tropical flowers, anything rare or exotic. Must be why he loves me... I am such a rare exotic flower. LOL... ahhh, I crack myself up sometimes. ;)

Anyway here are a few samples of bout looks that I've saved, I thought I had more but not sure where I saved them to now! Will have to try and find more to add to this collection as I go.

I think the first picture looks to be some sort of aqua/chartreuse orchid/hydrangea mix. The 2nd pic seems to be a mix of green cymbidium orchids and hypernicum berries or something like them. The last is a single white orchid entwined with what looks to possibly be dried grapevine or something like it. Very pretty.
