Wedding Invitation
I think we've picked our invite...Is it the one?
Besides my dress the invitation has been the most difficult decision to make. I think we may have decided but I'd like some opinions.

Is the pattern too "tribal" looking?
Are the Print your own really that much cheaper if you have them printed by someone else?
Does a flat type face look ok with a textured pattern? I'm not sure I can get them printed raised like the existing pattern.
Forgive the photo quality please, they were taken and sent from my phone.
Oh and they would go up and down not side to side like in the pic.

Wedding Flowers
DIYed some paper flowers
I was feeling ambitious Saturday afternoon so with my new scissors and paper cutter in hand I twisted up a couple of flowers AND took pictures of them. :)
The scissors were not what they needed to be and I think I'll be replacing the cutter with one of those round crafty pizza cutters and a mat. But besides that and the leaves not being what they will look like at all (I need to get floral tape and double up the paper so I can add veins) I'm fairly content with them.
Different cuts to the ends of course make for different styled flowers but I have'nt taken pics of any of the others yet.
Pics are from my phone so forgive the quality. I'll take better some time soon.
Oh and 4 and 8 are done with 5x7 paper 3 is like 4x6. I really like the big ones but don't know how they'll blend with other styled flowers.

Anyone else NOT getting emails from WBC?
I was just wondering if anyone else is no longer getting update from WBC?
I used to get emailed everytime a subscribed post got a new comment but not anymore.
I also don't get blog updates or watched bride updates.
Anybody else experiencing email fail?
Is it something I did?
Or did the site quit sending them?
Or....?

Wedding Cake
Let's talk (dummy) cakes....Am I crazy?
With the dessert buffet...cupcakes, brownies, cookies, mousse cups and other assorted bonbons I think we're going to do a dummy cake. Its just going to end up as part of the decor for the buffet really. For those not familiar a dummy cake is a styrofoam form that's been covered and decorated just like a real cake. There's options to have a section of real cake hidden in the back for the cake cutting ceremony but the HTB thinks he wants to forego that and just feed each other cupcakes.

Now...I've been all over the place on the web and can order one direct from a woman in Minnesota. I've contacted a local baker and she says she does them. Sparky's convinced with a little practice and a lot of trial runs we can do it ourselves.

I've got choices of fondant, perma ice or royal icing. Then there's the options of piping, airbrushing, stenciling. And what design? Imitate the pattern in the invite? Go totally overboard with a three tiers striped, harlequin and spirals?
Real flowers, fake flowers? Toppers?

Ahhhhhh! All of this is gong to go on some styrofoam?!?!
I think we'll be ordering one if we do it lol.

But I want to know if anyones had any experience with them? Researched them? Can I see pictures? Do you have any advice?
Have you seen one at someones wedding? At bridal shows?
Anywhere?

Doing away with the cocktail hour and...
having a dessert hour instead?
What are your thoughts on this?
Is it totally taboo?

We're already considering a late afternoon/early evening ceremony. Early September can still be pretty hot around here, if we do end up having an outdoor ceremony I don't want to be dieing.

Sooooo, we could enter the hall after our guests have been seated and have some appetizers and the toasts. Then eat dinner, do the dances...

AND THEN have our cocktail hour start with the cake cutting and the serving of the dessert bar!
We're already doing froo froo signature cocktails... would'nt people rather not drink and then eat supper? I know I'd rather eat, then drink, then party.
I'm really thinking the party would be more likely to kick off as raucous as we want it to if we're serving folks drinks just before the dance music starts.
Again I want your thoughts and opinions!!! Sparky just gave me the "whatever you want, darling" look.

Wedding Cake
The Dessert Bar Part II...
This weekend Sparky and I got to go out. He had planned this total surprise and we ended up at this chocolate tasting fundraiser event. We had a fantastic time but of course we ended up discussing wedding things.
How could we not with all of this decadent chocolate around us?
Soooooooooo....we've decided to add two more DIO that's do it ourselves lol items to our dessert bar.
I need a place to store all things dessert-y!
This shall be the list. I'll add pictures as we do mock ups, test batches, find and finish cake stands, etc.

On two (?) buffet tables we'll have...

Wedding Cake
Chocolate and Vanilla cupcakes
Groomscake...undecided whether this will be a giant monkey bread or traditional croquembouche but it will be a great big tower of gooey goodness
Chocolate Chip cookies
Black and White cookies
Brownies
Chocolate cups filled with strawberry and chocolate mousse
Small chocolate cups filled with raspberries and drizzled with white and dark chocolate

And then reds... Should we go with candy? Or fruit? I feel with all the chocolate we should break it up with something palette cleansing.
Strawberries?

I imagine that will be more than enough for the 50 to 70 guests will be having. I'm right in my thinking right?

Ask a Question
Who's daring enough to make their own wedding cake?
We've got awhile to do all things wedding oriented and are now considering getting into fondant work. It seems simple enough in theory. And with enough practice...
We're thinking of getting a styrofoam base cake and going from there...but I want to hear the stories good bad or otherwise.

Have you made your cake?
Others cakes?
Plan on making your cake?

Wedding Cake
We're thinking about a dessert bar...
The DIY monster has taken over mine and Sparky's brains.
We are no longer in control...
I'm kidding of course, but the "hey we can do this ourselves" is starting to be the forerunner in our planning.

We bake. ALOT.
It's a very lucky thing I have some self control or I'd be a manatee.
Long story short...Sparky with brownie in hand says we should just make these for the wedding too,
That means in addition to the cupcakes and actual wedding cake.
Well hells bells...if we're going to have cupcakes, cake and brownies we might as well go all out and finish off the dessert bar.
So I'm thinking...mini chocolate chip cookies, mini black and white cookies and maybe something to add a pop of red?
Some candies in jars? Strawberries? Hmmmm ....

By the way...I'm utterly in love with the dessert bar in this photo. Not so much the damask but our swirly curlicue patterns and I'm thinking we'd need twice the amount of table for everything we'd want.

What do y'all think?
Anyone else going with a dessert bar? Anyone selling cakestands or cupcake trees or any similar serving wares to the ones they're showing?

Elegant eccentric...Checkers,stripeys and curlicue patterns. Black and white are our primary colors with bursts of deep red. The ballroom we'll be using is done in gold, deep green and a rusty red. I'm hoping that the combination of the background and our colors and patterns will lend itself to a kind of Victorian/Burton feeling and a kick a** party atmosphere.
