A lot can happen in three days.
Big things.
Very big things.
Day 1: Patrick (remember, we're across the country from eachother.. me in Ontario, him in British Columbia) meets with a real estate agent for the first time and views three homes up for sale.
He falls in love with one of them and comes home and tells me.. "we need this house"
The funny thing about this house is that I was up visiting in December 09 and we were driving around and I saw this cute little house and commented that I liked it. At the time, we were kind of windows shopping and weren't really interested in buying. Anyways, Patrick commented it was too small... and too much money.
Just a side note.. WOW to house prices. British Columbia is crazy... my parents live in rurual Ontario and we could get a house 3x the size of this for 20,000 less than what we purchased our home for.
After the viewing, he decided that although small, it's perfect for the two of us... it's only three years old and in a really nice neighborhood (patrick is in the police force and had strict guidelines as to where he wanted to live)
Day 2: We put an offer in.. we wait all day.. and finally, at 8:30PM, we get a call to say it's been rejected. It's so funny, I felt like we should have been on HGTV on one of those "Property Virgins" show.
Real estate agents informs us that the seller won't go any lower than their counteroffer.
Day 3- After long conversations with each other and our real estate.. we decide to GO FOR IT.
Result?
We are officially home owners!
Life is pretty crazy.
I am planning this wedding virtually by myself here in Ontario.
In the last year I have picked out and had the responsibility of purchasing two newly used vehicles for us (I chose a civic and an equinox... both have been great, A+ for me!) and now Patrick purchases our first home by himself...
Can I say once more how much I am looking forward to BEING TOGETHER? We are so excited because the house has so many little projects to help fix it up and we cannot wait to make this house into our home. :)
We close on the house on July 6th.. so we have about a week from when we come back from our honeymoon. That leaves me some time to get to BC.. I'm driving across Canada, how cool is that?
This is a long post.. but I'm so excited.
and now I am for sure getting that mixer, it will look so great in my new kitchen! OMG, I have MY OWN kitchen :)
Life is good.
Have any of you made a big purchase while planning your wedding?
I just finished my masters degree this April and that was one of the hardest things to do: school and wedding.
Needless to say, I think school got a bit neglected!
Good luck with your planning :)
Good luck with everything and planning and keep me updated with that mixer!
Aside from that, we had our DD young, which changed our marriage plans years ago, lol. Let's just say I'm excited to finally be doing this! :P
Congrats on the house, super excited for you!
I have made a few big purchases during our wedding and also now durning our vow renewal. And not only purchases...we moved 3 states away and are now having a destination wedding in Florida bc that's where we moved from! Talk about hectic. Some of my wedding stuff is there and some is here. I keep buying things again bc I can't remember if I have them already :(
We have already lost two homes due to crazy biding wars! It is really quite stressful and not so fun here in Manitoba. People are biding thousands of dollars more than what homes are worth so it's pretty hard since we are in a competitive market. The worst part is they are probably 1/3 the size of this house here and going for crazy prices! So I am glad you don't have to deal with that ... this home looks beautiful for your first home! p.s. The kitchen is pretty awesome!
