Black DIY Wedding Update

DIY Wedding
Update
Well, with apparently only 93 days left (holy crap, where has the time gone?!) There's a lot to do...but things are coming along fabulously!!

PLACE CARDS:
I'm currently making the place cards. White cards with black lace, then we're placing clear labels with black writing on them once we have our numbers in. My iDo Wedding Couple program allows me to VERY easily print labels (it literally took 10 minutes to print all the address labels for the invitations, all 160 of them!). This is going to take TONS of time, seeing as we have 365 people on the guest list! Oh well, it's something unique, and that's what I'm going for. (Thank you to the bride who gave me the idea, I'm sorry, I forgot your name, but I voted for you in your contest, you're so creative, and I'm so jealous!!! Keep up the good work!!)

FLOWERS:
The flowers are in the process of being made. Mine are purple ranunculus with some black feathers and black satin ribbon. The girls' are white roses with some black feathers and black satin ribbon. Luke's bout is a purple ranunculus with a black feather and some white spray, the rest of the guys' are a white rosette with black spray and a purple feather.

FAVORS:
We're currently compiling our song list for our CD's that we're making as part of our favors, since most of our guests are from out of town, and will be driving 3+ hours to get to the wedding, now they'll have something to listen to on the way home.

RINGS:
Our wedding bands came in and they're incredible!!! I love them SOO much!

TABLE NAMES:
Our table names are coming along. The names are printed, the paper is cut and the photos are printed. Now it's just a matter of putting them all together with some creativity...which I'm currently lacking...boo.

MARRIAGE LISENCE:
We can get our marriage lisence next week...WOOOOO HOOOOO!!! Although, since I'm working nights all week, I'm sure we won't get it until probably the week after...or so!!

HONEYMOON:
The honeymoon is booked. We're going to El Cid Cancun...Luke's dad and step mother have a time share which they've graciously given to us for the week!! Not to mention my parents have graciously offered their air miles points, so we're definately being spoiled!

DRESSES:
The dresses should be here next week from my bridesmaid's aunt's house in Michigan, as well as the beautiful damask fabric I bought for part of the backdrop behind the head table, and the leftovers will be used to make the ring bearer pillows.

FEATHERS:
I also bought some GORGEOUS feathers from Fabricland today. They were 50% off...and then the girl rang it in wrong and gave me an extra 50% off with my membership (since they were having a 50% off weekend). So I got them for SUPER cheap....1 wreath to use for the boquets/bouts and 4 strands approx. 2 feet long to go around the candles at the head table and the parents' tables. In total, my bill was $20! Can't go wrong with that!!!

MUSIC:
My fiance has the music all finished for the ceremony. It's a surprise to me. He's the musical one out of us and I know he has fabulous taste! He says that although it's killing him not to tell me anything, each of the songs he chose was because they make him think of me! As if I don't have enough to cry over the day of the wedding, now when I hear these songs, I'm going to cry...I just know it!!! Oh well, it'll be worth it!!

DIY Wedding
This week has been incredibly productive in the DIY department! My parents came down this past weekend (while I worked). Luke and my dad cut out all the pictures for the invitations (the same one that is my profile pic) and put them in the invites. I then designed all the pocketfold sheets and got them ready to print.

We took them to a copy shop Tuesday, however; when we got them back yesterday, they looked AWFUL! They're grey (a faded...ran out of ink kind of grey...instead of being black), they have a border of black, however; when they cut them, the border or one edge of ALL the inserts was cut off (the worst part is it's a different side of each type of insert, so we couldn't have even faked that it was supposed to be that way). Not to mention, they cut WAAAAAY too many sheets at a time and the edges were all frayed. After my first "bride to be" meltdown, my fiance took them in this morning and got them redone for free. They look great and we decided to not risk a shitty papercutter, and we're going to cut them ourselves, with our nice cutter.

Our envelopes are all bought, addressed and ready for the invitations to go in. The iDo Wedding Couple program that I bought months ago organized all my invitations and printed labels in an instant....best $30 I've ever spent!!! Our envelopes are silver with clear address labels in the same scripted font that our invites are written in.

Our website is pretty much done, we're still waiting for the groomsmen to send us photos of themselves to add to the bridal part pictures....I'd love some feedback!!

www.lukeandstephmcleod.com

I also ordered my damask fabric....it's white polysilk fabric with raised black velvet damask pattern....$7.99/yard from 800fabrics.com the link to the damask pattern is:

http://www.800fabrics.com/detail.php?pid=6957&ccd=316&type=Fabrics&gid=1

We booked our hair, makeup and nails, $30 for all of the above and Marvel College. They can take 6 for hair and 6 for makeup/nails at a time, so we're all going in at 0900 and will be out by 1200...just in time to get some lunch and get dressed. We don't have to be at the church until 1400!

My mom bought her mother of the bride dress this weekend also...it's BEAUTIFUL and she looks SO cute in it!!!!

We also picked out the flowergirl dresses....my maid of honor's mother in law was going to make them, unitl I found these beauties from the Children's Place!!! I really think they'll tie my white dress and the bridesmaid's black dresses together, not to mention, it's something different for a flowergirl dress...which is exactly what I want!!! My flowergirls tried them on and looked adorable in them!

Well, that's it for now, the invitations will hopefully be sent out in the next couple of weeks, then we can get started on the rest of the decorating...like the CD favors, pew cones/flowers, boquets...etc.

Things are really starting to come together and so far I'm very pleased with how smoothly everything is going....it's hard to believe the wedding is just a little more than 4 months away! I'm getting very excited!

For Calgary Brides
Some Great Vendors!
Well,

I must say, thanks to Kijiji and advertising from other vendors, I've come accross some inexpensive vendors that seem fabulous!!! I really wanted to share, since I'm sure everyone is on just as tight of a budget as I am!!!!

1. Exquisite Events Calgary
http://exquisiteeventscalgary.com/

They do decorating, provide linens, lights, backdrops, gazebos, etc. I rented my black satin chair covers from her for $1.50/cover!!!!!! She's a bride to be herself who started this business because everything she wanted for her wedding was crazy overpriced! Super sweet gal and INCREDIBLY reasonable pricing!!!

2. Twilight Entertainment
www.twilight-cgy.com

He is our DJ, $400 flat rate for the night. We met with him, told him the songs we want played, what we don't want played and he asked questions to get an idea of the style of our wedding, the songs and artists he was listing was BANG on to what we wanted for the night!! Great guy!

3. Marvel College
We're getting our hair/makeup done there, $30 for both and they've got instructors looking over their shoulders so that nothing goes wrong, not to mention there's 6-10 artists at a time working, so the entire bridal party can get done at the same time!!!

I hope that this helps other Calgary brides. I am a HUGE supporter of brides getting their dream wedding for a reasonable price!!!

Checking Things off the List
Wow, it's been a while!

Things I've got done:

1. Tears of Joy
2. Candy Buffet Signs
3. Website will be up at the end of the week(www.lukeandstephmcleod.com)
4. First dress fitting
5. Kids goodies
5. Some candy buffet candies bought
6. All flowers ordered and design for boquets/boutenners/corsages figured out
7. DJ booked
8. Design for head table backdrop figured out and my dad will complete it in the next few months
9. CD favors bought, cover designed & needs to be printed
10. Church booked

Things to Do:

1. Order damask fabric online for backdrop
2. Buy clearance black and white fabric for backdrop
3. Complete the rest of the invitations & mail by March 15th
4. Complete CD favors
5. Buy candy
6. Book hair/makeup
7. Finish pew decorations
8. Complete the 7 crystal trees

Well, the list goes on and on, but at least this weekend, I FINALLY feel like I crossed some things off the list!!! Plus, my parents are coming down next weekend, and we're going to put the picture on the L side of the invitations, and hopefully get as much wedding stuff as possible done (even though I'm working 12 hour days...eww!)

I've been so caught up in wedding things lately, the more I think about it coming, the more excited I get. Poor Luke is probably going crazy, but he's been fabulous! Doesn't complain a bit when I suggest doing some wedding things - and not to mention he's been trying his very hardest to be involved in wedding things lately!!!

I've also been thinking a lot about what the heck to do with everything when I'm done! So....this is my idea, and let me know what you think.....

Why not pass things on when I am done, whatever people want, I'll sell to them for less than what I've paid, and then those brides can pass it on to other brides.....especially things that people are really into, like the crystals, and the apothecary jars, etc.

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this!

Well, I should go, I've got to clean up my DIY mess from this weekend!!

I hope everyone else is having as much of a blast as I am with this wedding planning stuff!

Engagement 034

A Wedding Survey
How long did you date before you got engaged?
Just over 4 years

Did you get the ring you wanted?
Nope, he designed it and I can't think of anything more beautiful!

Was the proposal a complete surprise?
I knew it was coming, I just had no idea when...until we made plans to go to Victoria....that's where we went on our 1st date, so I thought it might happen. However; he completely caught me off guard when he actually did propose!

Do you wish you had a bigger/smaller diamond? If so How big or small?
Originally, I wanted something VERY small...I told him less than a half a carat, but mine is 0.72 and perfect! I wouldn't change it for anything!

Did you cry when he proposed?
Crying is an understatement!

Was the proposal romantic or creative? Explain how if you'd like.
Very romantic...very creative! He took me to all the spots we went on our first date...watched the sunset on a mountain overlooking the entire city/ocean....then blindfolded me and took me to a rose covered bed and breakfast! He knows me perfectly!

When do you want to go for your honeymoon?
Somewhere unique, warm, beachy

Are you buying his wedding band for him?
You betcha!

Have you gone over your original wedding budget?
Yes, but not by much!

What day of the year will your wedding be?
TUESDAY, June 30, 2009

What kind of weather?
Hopefully sunny, not too cold/rainy.

Inside or outside?
Inside, with pictures outside (hopefully!)

Church/justice of the peace/other?
Church

How many people will be there?
300+

Time of day?
Early afternoon for the ceremony, cocktails at 5, dinner at 630

Any kind of theme?
Black/white damask with purple splashes.....vintage and glam

How many bridesmaids? Who would they be?
4 bridesmaids:
Jenn-cousin
Jen-friend since kindergarten
Mav-friend since elementary
Karlie-aquaintance through Luke since Jr. High, friend for 5 yrs

What kind of cake/what will it look like?
I have left all cake creativity in the capable hands of my dad's cousin's wife (she's like my second mom). We are not big cake people, so she can make whatever kind she wants, with whatever decorations she chooses, as long as it is simple and easy to make with a little "glam"

Where will you have the reception?
Airdrie Town and Country

What kind of dress will you have/color/material?
Vintage style, glam, off white...too many details will spoil the day!

What kind of flowers in your bouquet?
Dark purple silks with a little white.....telling too much details will spoil it!

Kind of engagement ring?
White gold, center tension mount princess cut, with 4 princess diamonds on each side....symbolizing the 4 years we've been together and the 4 children we hope to have

Kind of wedding bands?
for me: white gold with 3 small princess cut diamonds spaced apart
for him: tungsten band with different angles to make it a bit shiny

How will you wear your hair?
Half updo. Veil for the ceremony, a flower/birdcage/feather/crystal surprise in the back for the reception

Who will be important to be there?
Other than us, our parents and our family (hence the large size of our wedding), and our wedding party!

Will the reception be big or small?
Large, however; I think it'll end up being more intimate than we think it will be!

What will the groom wear?
Black 2 button suit that we bought last week!!

Where will you go for the honeymoon?
I have no clue, we haven't got that far yet!

How long?
Hopefully 2 weeks

What will you do?
Hopefully a lot of relaxing, a little adventure and a lot of quality time together!

Will it be modest or costly?
Costly....we're saving big time for it!

What will you stay in?
I'm hoping a hotel!

How old will you and the groom be?
We'll both be 24

How long will you be engaged before you get married?
11 months

Live together before or wait till married?
We're waiting....

Take a long time to plan the wedding or will it be simple?
A long time to plan, we want everything to be very unique. Many of Luke's cousins and his sister had their reception at this hall, so we're trying very hard to decorate it doesn't look the way the rest of the receptions did!

Will you do it yourself or with family or hire someone to plan the wedding?
I've been doing it myself, a wedding planner is over rated when you've got lots of support to help you along the way (and on the day!)

Will you write your own vows or use something pre-made?
No, we're traditional in that sense, we're using premade vows!

Wedding Reception
Purple Cocktail Ideas NEEDED!!
Hi everyone,

We're hoping to do a signature drink as people walk in the door to the reception hall. We are hoping to have both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks to pass out. Now, with that being said, we're on a fairly tight budget and want something that is friendly on the wallet and easy to make and store the day of the wedding. We're hoping to have a purple drink....but there's not a whole lot of simple drinks on the internet....I was just wonering if anyone has any ideas?! The more the merrier!!!!

Wow, I just looked at the # of days until the weding...196, I can't believe it! It seems like just yesterday when that number was in the 300's!

Not much has been happening on the wedding front lately...just a few:

1. Meeting is set up next Saturday with a woman who rents chair covers for $1.13/cover!!! Which is perfect....right in our budget!

2. Bridesmaid dresses are ordered and recieved in Michigan. They will be shipped up to Canada after Christmas! Total cost for the 4 dresses in CDN: $175. Not too shabby!!!

3. My butterfly pin came in....stunning, better than I thought it was going to be!!!

4. Picked out our church, now just have to find a priest, since we're not members of the parish, we can use the church, but need to get a different priest to marry us!!

5. Registered at the Bay last week!!!! We would much prefer money, since we're living in my place when we're married, and we already have 2 of everything!! We'd much prefer to take what people would spend on gifts and put it towards paying off Luke's student loans! This way we can afford a house sooner than we normally would be able to!!

6. Picked out and ordered our wedding bands!! Mine is custom made, so I have to give up my engagement ring for a month! BUT....luke went to Claire's and bought me a $10 ring to wear while my real one is at the goldsmiths...he said he doesn't want me to miss my ring! It was so cute!!

I hope everyone is well for the holiday season...I can't believe how fast Christmas is approaching! Yikes!!!! I guess that's what happens when I've been on nights and sleep the days away!!!!

Bridesmaids
FINALLY THE DRESS ARRIVED!!!
Well, it's been about 7 weeks, but the tiral bridesmaid dress arrived!!!!!! It was ordered from Target.com and sent to one of my bridesmaid's aunt's house in Michigan. She then sent it up here. It must've been held up at the border!!!!

I must say....IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!! EXACTLY what I was looking for, very vintage looking!!! The only downfall is now that our dollar is so poor, we'll be paying an extra 25% on our dresses, but it works out to be about $70 CDN for the dress, including shipping. I included a picture of the shoes that we bought at Zellers for $30. In total, the wedding day attire for my bridesmaids will be about $100!! Not bad...I'm definitely impressed with it, I hope they are too!!!

I've also been a bit busy with some DIY projects....Bridesmaids...DO NOT LOOK!!!

I did wedding party shirts, the shirts were on sale at Michael's, 2/$7....and the iron ons weren't on sale originally, but when I bought so much, the owner of the dollar store I went to gave them to me for buy 1, get 1 free!!! They worked out to be $3/iron on....so in total, the shirts cost a total of $6.50/shirt!!!! SCORE!!! Not to mention, they're awesome!!! Luke's isn't here...but his is black and says GROOM (Duh).

I also completed the bridesmaid bags for the day of the wedding. The bags were $6 each at Michael's (but I used by 40% off coupon for each bag). The iron on hearts and flowers were $1.50 each, with the left overs (since there were 2 designs/pkg) being used for my bag. The black ribbon was $5/roll at Michael's (I used 1/2 roll for all 5 bags), the Damask ribbon was $2.47 @ Walmart. I used 1 roll. The iron on letters for our names were $9/sheet @ Michaels, I bought 2, but I used my 40% Off coupon for each sheet....so they worked out to be $4.50/sheet. Plus, I have enough left over letters to do more bags...for other important people on our wedding day. In total, the bags work out to be about $9/bag.

I also did some bridesmaid boxes, which will hold some wedding day necessities. The boxes were $9 @ Michael's (I used 40% off coupons for each box) and the "beautiful" lettering was in the scrapbook section...$4 each (I also used my 40% off coupon for each of these). The paint was bought at Michaels also, with a layer of gloss paint also. The flowers were a big container in the scrapbooking section...a container for $9. The bling on the inside of the flower was left over from our take out boxes. In total, the boxes (without the goodies) were about $9/box also.

Well, that's about it for now....I also recieved my Damask packing tape in the mail from Michigan....so now I can get started on some more DIY projects!!

I'd love to hear some feedback on my projects!!! I LOVED making the bags...so much that I went out and bought more bags (in white) and different ribbon and made some other totes for myself!!! (nerdy, I know!)

Wedding Decoration
Well, it's been a while since my last post!! I've got a lot of great ideas lately and things are slowly falling into place.

First off, my latest purchases:

Damask monogram stickers for the front of our invitations from Simply Embellish on Etsy.com. FABULOUS!!!! You should check her out!!

This crystal butterfly pin, which I will be pinning on my boquet stem. Luke's Grandmother passed away a few years ago and to honor her, all of his female aunts/cousins have silver butterfly rings. Butterfies are her favorite and to honor her, I will be pinning this on my boquet.

Purple clutch! (No need to say anymore!!)

Crystal and pearl bracelet for the wedding.

I've also just purchased our toasting flutes at the dollar store. They are from weddingstar and are beautiful!! I also purchased some damask table runners from a woman in Edmoton who rented my crystal garlands for a Christmas Dinner. This fabric is beautiful, with raised velvet damask pattern. I'm going to purchase more of this fabric once the dollar goes up in the new year, as a part of our backdrop for the head table.

I have also been working on the gifts for the bridesmaids. Which I cannot share, as they check my blog as a way of keeping in touch!!!! But...they're awesome!! A lot of it is DIY projects, which I have been picking away at-slowly but surely!!

In addition to our wedding excitement and planning, Luke's sister had a baby last week. Welcome to the world Clara Mary!!! We spent this past weekend in Saskatchewan visiting them, she's absolutely adorable!! A great balance for her two older brothers...ages 3.5 and 20 months!

We will be booking our church in the next few weeks!! SOOO excited! Then we can really sit down and work on the invitations!!

Well, bye for now!!!
