Isn't it so tough trying to narrow down on something that seems so easy!?!?!?  Cake!  For goodness sakes..  I too am tossing back & forth on cupcakes or cake & what is it exactly that I want it to look like?  I really like the pic you chose above, & to be honest, if you  are really wanting a design that would look best with fondant, then go with it.  The fondant really is brutally sweet & yucky (in my opinion), but what you can do is ask the bakery if they can make you a "fake cake".  I'm serious.  Some brides have a cardboard replica of the design they want for way less & then you can have a portion of the cake for you & your hunny to be able to cut for pics & tasting.  Then, have an affordable sheet cake done up for your guests, & they can eat that.  Most likely your guests wont even know where their slice came from because it will be served to them.  Just something to think about, & it will save you lots of money.
