One HUGE change!
Deposit? Check!
There has been yet another huge change in wedding plans, but the latest one will stick...especially since we put down the deposit!!! The budget became about 2 thousand less, so we realized we needed a venue that provided almost everything and we found it. It's a local banquet hall...beautiful! It has this feeling of elegance and simplicity and it was exactly what we were looking for! The only thing I really have to do is hire a photographer (which has been done) and get flowers for my bridal party (they will each be holding one rose). I no longer have a wedding planner as she was an expense that we could no longer afford. It also seemed like she was trying to add on more stuff than needed. I haven't told her we won't need her anymore...i feel bad. I don't know exactly how or what to say. She was a huge help at one point, but I think I can handle it from here on out. Especially since I have found us a place that does it all...even the fondant cake I wanted! It was so perfect! I almost cried when we saw it! I can't take any pictures off of the website, but for those who'd like to view the gallery, you can find it at www.occasionbanquets.com

Modest, but just my style! |
Wedding Dress
Modest Still Exists!
As you may be able to see from some of my pictures, I am not a small girl. I am 5'10 and plus sized. I have lost some weight, but I don't really see myself losing very much more and to be honest, I'm not really concerned. My fiance loves me for who I am and I am happy with that. I was almost about to cry while looking at wedding dresses because even if I typed in plus sized wedding dresses, a large majority of them were strapless, tight, plunging neck lines, etc. I was getting so frustrated and annoyed. I was considering having a dress made. Then, it dawned on me to type modest wedding dresses into my keyword search, and there they were! Websites that sell modest dresses with some sleeves! I was beyond happy! All of my problems were solved. I do plan on buying my wedding dress online for cost reasons. The dress I have put on here is not the one I found and love. The website won't let me "borrow" their picture, but this one is similar

Me and the world's greatest mom! |
Ask a Question
Mother-Daughter Dance Songs?
I'll be dancing with my mother since my father wasn't around. I like R&B and alternative music. I like gospel too, but we're not really having much of a religious service other than a preacher marrying us and a prayer to bless the marriage. So, I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a few songs my mama and I could dance to? My friends who got married in 2006 used the song "Mama" by Boyz ll Men. If I used it again would I be accused of stealing even though it would be 3 years later?

Wedding Conversation Hearts |
Wedding Favors
Mints!
So, it hit me last night as I was thinking about my wedding before I went to sleep like I have done every night since we set the wedding date a few months ago! My favor boxes have been shipped and will be arriving this week! I was all set to put some Hershey Kisses inside the boxes and give that out as favors. However, we live in Miami. The wedding will be at 3pm and the entire event is outdoors! The chocolates would have melted by the time guests got home. So, we decided to get wedding conversation hears instead. I found them on one of my favorite websites which is www.orientaltrading.com. They have some great prices on there! I want to buy them now (along with a few other items) but I feel it's too soon and I don't know if the candy will be any good in 17 months. I'm just sooooo excited. I want to get everything NOW!

I really like this arrangement |
Flowers
Not a priority
As I mentioned, I am not big on flowers. Still don't know if I'll be using real ones or silk. When I did my list of wedding priorities, flowers was dead last. I know that's probably wrong, but I can't help it! Just never liked flowers that much. But, my wedding planner e-mailed me a few pictures today and I chose my number one choice. What do you think?

Thank God for my wedding planner!
Want to know something strange? I think I may be the only woman on the planet who never envisioned my wedding when I was growing up. I really had to start from scratch because I just didn't know what I wanted or what I wanted to do. I'm not really a girly girl, so I don't much care for flowers. I told my planner that I didn't even want any until she convinced me I did and that there were affordable ones to choose from! I am trying to figure out how I want the tables to look. This picture I found on my wedding venues website gave me a better idea of what I may want. I'd just want there to be a huge spash of fuchsia on the table rather than the orange in the picture. Take a look!
Oh, and instead of table numbers, we are going to name each table after a certain flower to go along with our garden theme. Guess I really did have a change of heart on those flowers, huh? lol |

So Far, So Good
The Planning
This is just a little post explaining where we are in the planning so far. We don't have a really huge budget because we'd rather get a house after the wedding, but we did have enough to hire a wedding planner! I needed one badly because though my mom is around, she isn't really helpful. A parent at the school I work for (who is also my photographer) put me in contact with a wedding planner and I connected with her instantly. Even my FH likes her because he likes how well she sees our vision and how hard she is working to pull everything together. She is working to keep us on task and on budget and we just really like her and her assistant. Our wedding is going to take place during the summer next year. The colors are fuchsia, tangerine, and ivory. We are having a garden theme, and found the perfect location very affordable and close to home. Cauley Square is a historical site that just recently began hosting weddings. The have a garden for ceremonies, cocktail hours, and the reception. There is also a beautiful space where we will take our pictures. We're using hot pink and orange daisies and another type of flower I think. I don't really like flowers, so my planner is looking out for some pictures to show me, but I know daisies will be one of them. I already bought an invitation kit because I am doing those myself and yesterday I purchased some favor boxes. Yes, they will sit in my house for 17 months, but they were on sale and I couldn't pass it up! I'd have to say the planning is going really well. My cousin is planning on throwing us an engagement party in July and we are looking forward to our first pre-wedding festivity!

My simple, yet elegant engagement ring |
The Proposal
November 23, 2006
Yes, this was a long time ago! It happened while eating turkey sandwiches post Thanksgiving Day. He just kind of dropped to his knee right then and there and popped the question! We had been talking about finally getting engaged, but the proposal came out of nowhere and that made it a very sweet surprise. Of course, I cried and said yes and 2 weeks later I had my ring! We chose to have a long engagement while I finished school. We finally set the date 2 months ago and now the planning begins!
