WORRIED
H1N1

I am a teacher and my students are out in record numbers sick with H1N1. My wedding is in 3 1/2 weeks and I am sooooo scared that I will be sick the day of wedding. I am calling around franticly trying to get the vaccine for my daughter, FH, and me. I don't know what to do. I do not want to be sick after putting a full year into planning and preparing for this wedding. Part of me just wants to be sick now and get it over with. The odds are against me. I had 3 classes today and more than 30 kids absent. I'M SO STRESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG thats a lot of kids!! I hope you can find that vaccine and fast! Good luck hun, I know they didn't ship many out..
Maybe they need to close school for a few days and get it sanitized..they did that to one school out here. If youre going to get it I would assume you would get it soon..just get tested at the sight of ANY symptom so you can get tamiflu ASAP  dont wait for symptoms to get bad!!

Because you have made the decision to get the vaccine I sincerely hope that you can find it soon. I am a nurse in Canada and they have just begun rolling out the shots here. Many of the health care workers here are NOT getting the shot, myself included. We all have a personal reasons why so I wont get into that, but, because the media has fear mongered people we at the same time are still concerned. A neurologist I work with who is not getting the shot as well, has suggested this to stay safe...increase or start taking Vitamin C and vitamin D and as well get yourself a multi vitamin, wash your hands and dont touch your face unless you have washed your hands. Also remember when people hear H1N1 they are terrified, thousands of people die from the flu every year, you just dont hear about it. If people hear H1N1 in a school, they are likely just to pull thier kids out of fear and not because they are actually sick, so you may not have as many kids sick as you think becasue they are absent. (its a possibility) Also gargle with warm salt water every night and clean your nose with a cotton tip and warm water each night and drink warm liquids, if you have the virus it takes a good 3 days for it to proliferate in your system and the warm fluids will stop that proliferation. Remember once you get the shot it takes about 10 days for you to become immune to the virus...good luck girl and keep your self SAFE!!!!

overdose on vitamin c!
I deal with about 100 different people a week, and I've never caught it. I drink emergenc like it's going out of style, lol, it does the trick for me and my whole family.
(my sister got hospitalized after a vaccination years ago, so we all stopped taking them)

I have choosen not to do the vaccine for family. It's just to new on the market to just panic right now.  If you get the vaccine, you still may get it before your wedding day. Thank you 2sweet for clarification on this madness.  I've been on my children's school's --S! They had the nerve to not have soap for the kids bathroom in 3 days, because the budget didn't pass their order?WTF!!!!! I went up there and went nearly postal about this, because #1 keeping hands clean if very important. #2 don't rub your eyes, mouth, nose etc., without washing thoroughly first!   I went to the $Dollar store and picked up some temporary bottles of antibacteria soaps for the dispensers. They've made me soap monitor!  LOL  Isn't that crazy and I'm not getting paid for that. You just have to be careful and make sure if kids around you have symptoms, sent them home immediately. Double up on the viti's too. That's all we can do. Stay clean!!!!

I got this in an email the other day, most of it makes sense.  Hope it helps.   We are doing the gargling twice a day and tons of vitamin C. So far it has kept me from getting any colds.  No flu here either and our neighbors kids all have it.

The following advice, given by Dr. Oz, makes a lot of sense and is important for all to know:

The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):

1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).

2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat or bathe.)

3. * Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine or Hydrogen Peroxide  if you don't trust salt).  *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.

4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water , or hydrogen peroxide. *Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanas to clean nasal cavities ), but *blowing the nose softly once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.*

5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C ( Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.

6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.

Be careful with those vaccines.  Just wash your hands often and clean doorknobs and anything that is touched often with clorox wipes.  Handles to faucets, fridge handle, stove handle, etc. My step daughter had swine flu and my son had regular flu (after he got the vaccine) and my fiance and I did NOT get sick.  She was out of school for a week and he missed 3 days. Doctor said to just keep everything clean and wash hands often so we washed our hands every hour.  And, washed their sheets in hot water with bleach.
