NWR:Christmas Blues
How To Make it Better For Him?
Ok ladies, here's the deal. My husband doesn't care for Christmas very much, he finds it to be depressing because of what he's dealt with in the past with his family, and right now things still aren't that great with his family as his brother is in some trouble and also was just hospitalized due to a medical condition he's had for a while and may need more surgery. I'm not going to go into detail about everything because it's not really my place, but the whole sitaution isn't looking good.
So here's my question...what can I do to make the holidays fun and a time to celebrate for him? I know nothing's going to change the past and that this Christmas is going to be a little tense when we go back to our hometown to see family, but I'd like to make this Christmas (and all the ones to come) at least a little better for him. I'm already doing/ have done some things with him that he enjoyed - we set up our tree together, built a gingerbread house, and walked around a nearby neighborhood that decorates their houses every year and makes an event out of it with awards for the most creative houses. We've also made wassail, his favorite holiday drink. I always make breakfast on sunday, so this sunday I'm going to set up a little brunch around our tree while he's sleeping and present him with a really cute gift I made for him that he'll enjoy. (Anyone who wants to know what I made, I got the idea here - http://loveactually-blog.blogspot.com/2009/12/date-of-month-club-homemade-christmas.html) Do you ladies have any other ideas for things I could do with him that might keep his mind off bad memories? Any suggestions would be appreciated! |

What does your FH/Hubby do...
that makes your heart melt?
Alright ladies, so I've seen several posts on here about what your FH/hubby does that bugs you. Those posts are always fun, and I love reading what everyone has to say, but I was thinking that it'd be nice to share what your man does that just melts your heart and makes you love him even more.
I could tell you a million stories about my husband, so I'll just share a couple! Here's a little background so this story makes sense: I have a stomach condition, which means I have to really be careful about what I eat - fat and dairy are my enemies! I'm usually pretty good at following my diet, but sometimes I just crave junk food! Well, a couple nights ago, I wasn't feeling too well, so my hubby told me he'd make dinner, which I usually do since he works and I don't right now. He asked what I wanted, and I told him I didn't know because everything I wanted I couldn't eat. He asked, "well, what is it you want and can't have?" I told him french fries and ice cream sounded amazing. He said ok,and I went to lie down until dinner was ready. When I came to the dining room for dinner, he had made french fries baked in the oven and something like ice cream out of some frozen fruit and soy milk! I was so surprised and touched because he had put in all the effort into making exactly what I wanted while making it safe for me to eat. He also likes to leave me messages on my laptop. If I leave my computer on and walk away, he'll pull up a cute little "I love you" type graphic online so I'll see it when I come back. So ladies, brag about your fiances and husbands here - what does he do that melts your heart? |

Honeymoon
Sandals Grande Ocho Rios Was Amazing
I've been working on putting together a couple photobooks, and I realized I never shared my honeymoon pictures with you ladies.
We went to sandals Ocho Rios in Jamaica for a week...it was amazing and so beautiful! We never got bored because there was always something to do. The resort has a wonderful beach area and tons of pools. The best were the main pool with the swim up bar and the hidden pool that's surrounded by plants and trees - we usually got it to ourselves when we went. The food was wonderful, it was so nice to be able to eat whenever we wanted and to not have to worry about paying and tipping the entire trip. All the tours they offer are great as well. My favorite was a jeep tour of the countryside that ended at Dunn's River Falls, a 600 ft waterfall that you climb up. The tour was so much fun because we rode in the jeep with the crazy driver - instead of staying on the roads and paths like all the other jeeps, he would veer off and make his own path! Dunn's River Falls was awesome and beautiful. The only downsides were that I got stung by a wasp during the jeep tour - it got trapped under my leg and stung my thigh 4 times! The other problem was that you needed water shoes for the waterfall, and hubby and I didn't bring any. We bought some at the resort gift shop, but they didn't have a size 6, so I had to get too tight ones. By the time we were done, my feet were in pain because not only were they too tight, but your shoes also get filled with gravel and sand while climbing! Hubby's favorite was a horseback ride/tour that ends by riding the horses in the ocean. He absolutely loved it, so I tried to suck it up and enjoy myself, but honestly, this was my least favorite part of the trip! I'm not used to horses, so mine took advantage of that. To make things worse, I got the horse with a sore on its cheek, so having the bridle and salt water rubbing against it for a couple hours straight did not make for a happy horse! By the time we got to the ocean, the horse and I were both in pain, and when we got into the water, I really wanted to cry! They have the horses gallop through neck high water, and I was hanging on for dear life because I was always about to fall off, and apparently, holding on to the bridle that tight pissed the horse off even more, because it stopped cooperating altogether and the guide had to hold onto the reins and keep me with him. Then, the guide's horse got startled and my leg got pinned between the two horses. When we got back to the room, I was bruised, and when I went to change, I noticed that somehow the seam of my pants had rubbed against me so much I had a huge sore! 4 months later, I still have a scar! Justin also surprised me with a candlelight dinner on the beach. It was very romantic, and we got a few pro pics taken by one of the photographers Sandals hires. Overall, we had an amazing honeymoon and plan on visiting more Sandals when we can afford it! |

NWR:Please Pray For Our Family
Uncle has terminal cancer
My uncle was diagnosed with lung cancer a few weeks ago, and unfortunately, it wasn't caught until it was too late. I don't want to go into much detail, so I'll just say that he is not going to be with us much longer. It's a shock because we just saw him a few months ago at the wedding, and he seemed perfectly healthy. He even came down early so he could go camping before the wedding.
My grandmother is having a terrible time right now. Grandpa passed away three years ago and she hasn't been doing well since then, so having her son go through this is just too much for her. So ladies, please keep us in your thoughts and pray that my uncle isn't in too much pain, and pray for my grandma. Also, above all else, please remember to cherish the time you have with the people you love because you never know what the future holds. Thank you ladies ***Update: My uncle passed away late last night. While this is sad news for our family, I am glad that he is not in any more pain and in a better place now. |

Great links and tools
List of sites for the budget brides
Alright ladies, so I have been married for a while now and realized I still have my favorites folder of wedding links, so before I get rid of it, I thought I would share some of my finds with you.
(I also have more links on the second page of my blog that I compiled while planning.) Tools and templates: http://www.publix.com/food/entertaining/Home.do -For ladies planning to purchase their own food and supplies for a buffet type menu, the site offers a party planning section where it gives prices for their party platters and offers lists of supplies youll need. The prices seem pretty average of what youd pay at other stores and lets you plan a pretty good menu. http://www.ayleebits.com/ -A great resource for DIY ideas, templates, advice, and more. http://www.ruthannzaroff.com/mirkwooddesigns/templates.htm -Has lots of templates for different things. http://www.diybride.com/ -Lots of ideas for DIY projects and tutorials. Vendors: www.wedideas.com -I bought my silk flowers here. They have the most variety out of all the silk flower sites I looked at. I got 5 bouquets, 4 corsages, and 7 boutonnieres for $250, plus a free toss bouquet for an order totaling that much. Yes, I could have made them myself cheaper, but they do amazing work, and it was worth it for me not to have another DIY project on my hands! www.save-on-crafts.com -Lots of stuff for wedding DIY, decorations, flowers, etc. www.afloral.com -Lots of silk flowers for cheap. www.weddingfactorydirect.com -Great site for budget jewelry and accessories. I bought my headband, jewelry, shoes, and some silk petals here and all the items were great quality. My headband was $30 vs. $70 on other websites. http://www.formal-invitations.com/ -A cute DIY invitation site you can either buy their kits and print at home or mix and match to design your own. Prices start at $0.50 per invitation for the kits. |

Gown Preservation
How much are you paying?
Ok ladies, I've waited way too long to have my wedding dress cleaned because more important things came up, but I can't keep putting it off! I called a few cleaners today and the quotes I got were anywhere from $175 to $250. My question for all of you is, how much did or will you pay to have your dress cleaned and preserved?

A Wonderful Book
The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands
How many of you ladies have read this book?
My MIL gave it to me shortly before the wedding. Before I read it, I didn't think it would be worth my time...I thought I would read a couple chapters then stash it away on my bookcase and forget about it. So I was pretty surprised when I loved it and ended up finishing it in two nights. Although I didn't agree with absolutely everything she had to say, she still blew me away! Her insight into relationships is amazing, and she definitely made me stop and think about my relationship with my husband! I can honestly say that this book improved our relationship and reminded me of my husband's needs. To those of you who haven't read this book yet, I strongly recommend it! |

For The Married Ladies
A blog that offers support, ideas, and fun!
Like some of the other newlywed ladies on here have mentioned, you start to feel like you don't really belong on this wonderful site anymore. I've been thinking about setting up another blog for a while, and was inspired by Sapphire2009's post the other day.
What I've done is set up a blog where I'll write not only about my new life, but also give other wives ideas on how to make their marriage fun and how to distract yourself from no longer planning a wedding by diving into other fun projects. One thing I love is thinking up creative things my husband and I can do together on a budget. For example, I just posted an idea on my blog for an at-home spa night for my husband that he is going to love. It's a lot of fun, and there's so many benefits: your relationship grows stronger, you have fun together, and you also have something to plan for that doesn't involve centerpieces, dresses, and table linens! I will be posting new ideas on my blog frequently, along with recipes and DIY projects. http://sunshinemoments-blog.blogspot.com/ I would love for all you married (and engaged!) ladies to check it out and tell me what you think. Also, if any other ladies on here would like to trade links with me, I would love to! |
