Preston Bailey Wedding Trees

If any of you WBC brides seen the work of Preston Bailey, you will know what I'm talking about. He creates these big magnificent trees with flowering blossoms hanging off of it. I wanted to duplicate these trees for my brother's wedding but the cost of fresh flowers will be overwhelming. Based on the inspiration picture from Mr. Bailey, it looks like they used fresh rose petals and "sew" them into flowers that resembles Wisterias. So I tried making my own, but with silk rose petals instead. I used about 30 petals and folded and shaped them into the "wisteria" and kept them together by sewing through each petals. At the bottom of the blossom, I'd attached some crystals. Because this is a pain staking process, I think I'm only going to do two trees (trunk made out of birch tree poles and use secure random branches onto the trunk to create the tree). We will flank these on the entrance to wear the wedding party will walk the aisle. I will used white rose petals. When I did the sample one, I only had pink rose petals at home. With that many blossoms hanging, I don't think you can tell that they are not the real thing.

Can you explain how you folded the silk petals? I have a box of them next to me and I was just about to get started. Did you use fishing line to sew them with? Thanks for any infomation!

Hi Karen, I did use fishing line and bigger than normal needles.  It's a bit difficult to explain on here....I played with it a little.  You have to fold it where it gradually gets bigger as you go up.  When I get a chance, maybe I can post a pictorial on it.
