I agree with Blkbutterfly. Try thrift shops & yard sales for unfinished wood frames in varying shapes & sizes. You could reserve one small wall in your reception area & pipe it with an inexpensive fabric, or bring in your own covered panel & hang your frames.
hey, we're in the process of making one right now. the quick instructions are to take a large piece of plywood, build a frame for stability using 2x4s or 1x3s...then scour garage sales, thrift stores for old frames. decide which ones you want to use for the cut outs, cut out the similar shape from the ply. apply wallpaper that you like and attach the frames. i'm not sure exactly how our stand system is going to work, but overall it's really quite simple. just try not to overthink it.
Thank you everyone for your help . As i make mine i keep in mind everything that was said .
sarahdarling: are you going to let your guest take there own pictures with it ? Or are you going to have someone take pictures of your guest with the wall ?
during cocktail hour we're going to have one of my bridesmaids who's a pro photographer to take pictures of guests using her camera and a tripod...then while dinner and dancing is happening we'll leave it out and let our guests take their own pictures.
i should be posting pictures of mine soon as a work in progress!
Hey! Just adding what I know. My dad is helping me make one for us, too and he's using a upside-down t-shaped support on both ends and we're using a 4x8 plywood sheet cut to 4x6 and I picked out some frame options yesterday. We are probably having my pro camera set up on a tripod and spouses of the attendants, etc... are going to have shifts for sitting and clicking. :) Good luck!
