Ask a Question
Do you hate Wedding Porn?

I love to collect wedding books, fold over the pages of ideas I like. Search the internet for hours for ideas and save them on my desk top.
I leave my wedding books everywhere with tabs and pen makers on circled items that I like.

One day my FH was looking through some of the items and ideas I like and commented,

" Do average people like us actually think that this is achieveable?"

I looked at him first a bit angry that he was bursting my bubble.
But he quickly recovered with,

" I just mean, it's like wedding porn. Unrealistic for the average person. It looks great but it will never happen unless you have an unlimited budget."

I explained to him that it was just to get ideas and them I began to think about it.
He's right! So many of these ideas that I love I will not be able to afford them and the replicas will never look just like the images I save.

So why do we oggle over these pics of inspiration boards and huge floral arrangements that we know we most likely can't be able to afford to do?

Because sometimes the replicas are much much better over the top is highly overrated and if you dont know what you want then you will never know what you can have.Dream it then achieve it or your slightly smaller version of it .God Bless

Hmmm wedding porn? Lol, never looked at it like that and still don't. But I agree with stbmrslynn, you can get some great ideas from things that may be a bit over the top. And also I don't tend to look or covet anything that is outside of my budget, and I think thats the case for a lot of brides on here as well.
But in the right doses, its all in fun and its all to see whats out there and get ideas (smile)
Happy Planning!

I know exactly what you mean!
Not just magazines and the internet do this, tv shows too!

Everyone we knowgives me ideas, and in my head I am thinking
"what kind of budget do they think we have?!"

I actually get anxious thinking about it, are my guests going to expect what they see in magazines? Will people be disapointed?
I know EXACTLY where you are coming from!

Your FH is right (sort of) about the wedding porn. Deep down inside, we all know that the wedding business is 1 of the biggest rackets of today. They show us all of these glamorous items that the majority of us will never be able to afford and make us believe that it's ok to sell our left arm to have them.
On a separate note, it's our duty to decide which part of our vision we must have, what we can REALLY afford and that's where settling for a replica actually comes in. Sometimes, the replica isn't always so bad especially if you're a DIY gal who doesn't mind a few trial and error sessions. At 1 point during our wedding planning, I didn't think the decor (which was super imporatnt to me) would have come out as well as it did. But, in the end, i was very pleased with the result and there wasn't much I would have done different.

I hated wedding porn when I was planning my wedding. I absolutley couldn't stand it, but I couldn't stop looking at it. lol I would get so upset thinking that I couldn't afford to do this or that. The flowers really bugged me and my dress bothered me and nothing was perfect enough while I was planning. I just couldn't have exactly what I wanted and I couldn't stand that. After it's all said and done though you'll begin to wonder if it was worth it. I think I had a lovely wedding and I was told by most of my guests that it was the prettiest and most fun wedding they'd ever been to. My whole wedding ended up costing less than $6000. Looking back I just don't think any of that mattered. I don't regret my wedding, but I just think it's a little silly now to get so caught up in certain things. I love my husband and it honestly wouldn't make a bit of a difference if we'd gotten married in a courthouse in jeans and t-shirts. Just try not to let the wedding porn rule you. It won't matter in the end. Promise.

ha ha wedding porn, CLEVER! I also made a post something along the lines of will our weddings ever look like the ones in these magazines. So after the wedding, I made an inspiration board with my wedding pictures and details, and I am quite pleased with the end result. I thought it looked something like you'd see in a magazine, and I didn't have lavish amounts things or cost as much as I know some weddings can get up to!

lol I find this so funny and relevant. Its tottaly true...Im guilty of looking at copius wedding porn. i think its ok to take inspirations but then fit it in your own budget, whatever that may be. I get carried away some times and want all these great things for our wedding. My FH has to bring me back to reality... he always says.. you know, I understand you want all these things but its not realistic with our budget, I mean do you think any of our friends or other 23 year olds can have this over the top wedding? everyone you see with those weddings are like 30, so unless you want to wait until then, reality it is. We have these talks every few months cuz i keep forgetting
