Wedding Cake
Should I make my own?

I used to make wedding cakes....wondering if I should make my own and save a few hundred dollars. If I were to make this cake for a customer, it would cost roughly 450 with just the spice cake that I want to do with mine. If it had a fruit or filling then it raises to 650+. My cost to make this would be about $120 plus 2 days of my time. Hmm....

I love using my FH tartan as a signature piece of the cake. Then having the crest (instead of the initials) on the bottom layer. This is just a simple sweet cake.

What do you think?

I would say if you can do this then go for it girl, especially if you used to make wedding cakes!  It would save you some money and you would be able to make it exactly to how you would want it:)

I am all for saving money, so if u feel u will have time then go for it! Just don't overload yourself! I have never made cakes professionally but for fun I decorate them often, and since my cake is just simple I am getting the baker to make the three tiers and cover them in white fondant then I will be putting my own decor on it. This will also make sure that it's done the way I want it as well :)  Plus saves me SOOO much money!

Absolutely! Its crazy what bakeries think they can charge for cakes! I'm making my own!!

Luckily, this is a simple wedding so there isn't too much to do other than book the venue, caterer, bagpiper and minister! I love making all of my decorations and funny enough, I have a lot of what I need already from other weddings I have planned that can be re-used that I had as samples such as candles, vases, ect. I like the idea of having a baker make the cake then I can just roll out some fondant and be done! Great idea! :)
