This is tekkybird's Purple Wedding!

When my FH finally proposed after 4 years of dating (he's my highschool sweetheart) we assumed that we would have a lengthy engagement. We've never been the type to rush anything and that works fine for us!
So, in January of 2008 we were thinking of a 2010 fall wedding leaving us well over 2 years to plan the wedding.

Last August with fall approaching quickly I decided to make a decision on the wedding date. It was originally assumed we would be planning for September or October of 2010. We had tentatively decided on September 18th, 2010. A random Saturday in the middle of September.

Shortly following the summer Olympics I was doing some wedding research and reading of all the couples who were getting married on August 8th, 2008 for the good luck that the date would bring. That got me thinking, wouldn't it be neat to have our wedding on October 10th, 2010. I did a little research and it turns out that the 10th is the Sunday of Canadian thanksgiving weekend. Perfect, I get a Sunday wedding (and all of the savings that come along with it) and my family gets a long weekend to celebrate!

I wasn't quite sold on the date though, I continued to mull it over and one night, while studying for my MCSE it clicked. October 10th, 2010 is 10-10-10 or 101010. Now, I'm a HUGE geek, I run a Help Desk, I rip computers apart in my spare time all that stuff so a wedding date that translates to binary code is extra special. My FH is a little geeky but he accepts my (uber) geekiness and decided to go along. I wondered what 101010 translated to in binary so a quick formula and TADA...

101010=42

42!!!

Many people don't know but it's 'The Answer' (to Life, the Universe and Everything) from Douglas Adam's Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series. This fit us so perfectly, we're both huge fans of the series and have read it many times over. Now I get to have an ultra geeky wedding and a very special day to have it on!
