Wedding Cake
FREE WEDDING CAKE
So I just got the most wonderful news today!!! My mom's best friend who is also providing her back yard for the tented reception is now also PAYING FOR OUR WEDDING CAKE!!! I was almost brought to tears to get this news!
The wedding cake was a huge cost for us and I was telling my FH that we could get a one or two tier caked and just go to Costco and get a sheet cake to cut for the guests. Well, he was not too happy with me cutting corners like this to cut costs on our wedding day. The cake is going to be from Amphora Bakery in Herndon, VA. I posted some examples of the cakes that they make! They are gorgeous!! Well I THANK GOD for Ms. Valencia she is so awesome and has always been an angel!!! |

Wedding Reception
We Set Our Venues!!
YAY!! So we have finalized our venues and I am so so excited! We are going to be having our wedding at Southminister Presbyterian Church in Oxon Hill, MD and having a backyard tented reception in Largo, MD at my mother's best friend's home! I am so excited!
This has cut our venue cost down to under half of what would have been paying at Newton White Mansion! And it gives us more creative freedom! I cant tell you how much weight this has lifted off my shoulders. Me and the FH were so concerned with how we were going to pay for everything and the venue had such strict rules on caterers that it was almost impossible to find one that wasnt charging an arm and a leg and asking for the rights to your first born child! Next, I just need to figure out decorations for the hall for the ceremony and find a tent rental and how to set everything up! |

REVAMP PART DUEX
New Colors New Motivation
Okay!! So I have been gone for a while!!!! I have been trying to get things going with my best friend's wedding which is turning out to be more than a notion. But I have changed some things for my big day and I am so excited to share!
First off... my color scheme has changed! After racking my brain for colors that I thought covered the romantic theme of what I wanted the day to feel like, I realized that I just couldn't find anything that fit. Besides that, the FH didnt really like anything I asked him about either I wasn't happy. So one night I was going through my bridal magazine and came across an article about the color red! and it hit me! My FH's favorite color is Red, I love gold and so there it was! Our new wedding colors. We are both really happy about it. Now that I have my colors, I was able to find a deal. We are planning on doing a lot of things ourselves and I didnt want to sacrifice the feel of what I wanted because we are spending the money. So I went to Michael's on a mission. I found the cutest R shaped wax seal and gold and red wax for the invitations. Everything from the save the date to the invitations will be sealed with love and wax!! |

Wedding Reception
Pre Wedding Cocktail Hour
So as 2012 starts to approach, we have started taking wedding planning more seriously. So here is a quick update, because I havent been on here in so long!
We have decided to have our wedding on a Friday evening for several reasons. One of the most important reasons is the price difference for our venue based on the day of the week. It is almost $1000 cheaper to have it on a Friday rather than a Saturday night. Due to the day of the week, and the fact that the wedding will be at night (we have to space starting at 6pm), we were concerned about guests having trouble getting to the event on time. So our remedy was to have a pre-wedding cocktail hour! So, when guests arrive at the ceremony/reception site, they will be guided into a garden view room where they can mingle, partake in our signature drink, and see pictures of us from when we were younger and throughout our relationship that will be placed around the room. The "guestbook" (I havent decided whether we should do a picute, a funky guestbook, or some other type of memento) will be there as well. What do you fellow brides think of this idea... I have gotten mixed reactions, so I wanted some feedback. |

DIY Wedding
BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD
ALRIGHT! I know that I havent been on here is an while. But there are some serious changes that have taken place. One, the theme has been changed. I was talking with a girlfriend of mine from high school that is truly a wonderful friend to me and we were going to use almost the exact same theme. Since she is getting married first, (SEPT 22, 2012, I AM A BRIDESMAID!!!) and because it is more culturally based for her, I changed my theme (which I was contemplating anyway).
I am now going with a more vintage feel for my wedding. This was in part to another change that we are making. We found a closer, cheaper, and absolutely beautiful venue. It is called Newton White Mansion. It is about 10 minutes from my home and it is a historic landmark in my county. We are changing to do the wedding on a Friday night, with an elegant ceremony and a straight party like atmosphere for the reception. I am really excited because things are starting to fall into place!! |

Wedding Reception
WEDDING CEREMONY/RECEPTION
So on Saturday, my FH and I went out to look for venues for the ceremony and the reception. We struck GOLD! We went to the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Kent Island, MD. The place is right over the Bay Bridge and is nestled in a Marina. The venue has to most gorgeous views of the Bay and the most plush lawns. They included a lot of things that I have found others to want to charge extra for! I am too excited!

Just Getting Started
Hey! I am new to this site! I just found it through a google search for DIY. Me and the Mr. are not officially engaged (as I dont have a ring yet, still looking) but we have already set a date and started the planning early so that it is budget friendly. We are trying to do a lot of things on our own to make it more cost effective. We have decided on the peacock theme focusing on the feathers! I love the richness of the colors! I am open to any and all suggestions and I look forward to this journey!!
