Barware?
So, the place that our reception is at is one of those DIY places, they only provide tables, chairs, and the hall. Everything else you have to provide. So far it's been perfect for our small budget and large guest list. We are going to have a limited open bar with wine, beer, and 4 drinks. The decoration company does not have any barware. UGH! Plastic is NOT an option, so I'm going to rent barware. With that said to minimize the number of glasses I need to rent is it tasteless or tacky to serve beer in a bottle? Can's are definitely not an option. Please help!

Are you using a catering company for food/drinks? If so see if they can give you a discount for barware.

Have you checked chicagopartyrental.com? I've used them before but I don't know if its in your budget.

Beer in bottles would be fine i think. I would limit the kind of beer thats served in bottles so you don't have different beer bottles all over the place. Corona has a nice clear clean looking bottle.

Consider, acrylic glasses at least for beer, they are heavier than your average plastic cups and look like glasses. I've used them for semi-formal parties with lots of people.

I'm glad you posted this... i need to start thinkin about this too.  I like your idea of the limited open bar.  My mother and I are arguing over whether to have liquor at all..  I would prefer beer and wine.  She wants a completely open bar.
This could be a great compromise!
And no, I don't think beer bottles are tacky... our reception venue has an outdoor patio.  I am planning on having big metal tubs full of ice and one will have bud light in bottles, and the other tub will have some sort of wine cooler in bottles.  This eliminates waiting in a line at the bar for drink... and also keeps the indoor space from becoming too crowded!  A win-win.
Good luck!

every wedding i have been to the beer has been left in the bottles (especially for imports that are not normally on tap) i see nothing wrong with it even for a really formal wedding

At the moment I am all for a cashbar, however, I know thats not an option. As per the beer in bottles, I dont think its a problem, my only problem with beer being served in bottles is waste. There is a lot of wastage with beer bottles- I've observed a lot lately that many people drink half the beer and decide to get another one.UGH!!
I suggested to my FI to get a Keg of beer as it will elimate the problem of waste, but you'd definately have to then rent glasses, but it may be cheaper to have a keg and rent glasses than buying bottles???

I've been to allot of black tie events where they serve beer bottles and don't think it's tacky.
