If you want to go a lighter color your only two options are A) let it grow out, which you don't want. or B) You go to a professional and have them lighten it. You can't put a lighter color on a dark color because it won't color. They will have to strip the color to lighten it maybe using a bleach of some sort. Then after they do that, they can color whatever color you want. It will be a little pricey, but that's your only other option. (Oh and btw I went to beauty school so that's how I know all of this). I hope it all works out for you. Which I'm sure it will. The black may even start to grow on you! I have black in my hair but I love black! It may not even be black. Dark brown is very close to black so you may think it's black when it's not. Good luck dear. Try not to worry too much. :D
