Vendor Reviews
for London Ontario and Area
Hi well it has been 7 months since my big day and it was wonder, despite some bumps. The day was beautiful and we are very happy. I wanted to do a little of review of the vendors I used and my experience with them.

Officiant: Rosanne Previtt from Kettle Creek Weddings
She did a wonderful job. They were a little expensive but perfect if you are not having a formal church wedding. Once you book with them they give you access to their website where they have tons of options for the ceremony if you don't want the traditional vows and don't want to write your own. I definitely recommend them.

Venue: Purple Hill Auction Barn (near Thorndale)
This place is beautiful! It's an old wood frame barn that has been renovated to do events. They supply chairs and tables. For an extra charge of $1/chair you can you the the extra set out doors for an outside ceremony. There was one issues with this, they lead me to believe they set them up, but when the set up night came they informed me we had to set them up, but overall this was fairly minor and they were going through some personal issues at the time so I am willing to overlook that. They are very up front regarding the fees for their services. And I was very happy with having my wedding and reception here.

Photographer: Robert Miedema
He did an excellent job, I felt his prices were reasonable (as far as photographers go!) and I was really happy with the customer service and the end result! He worked very hard for us the day of the wedding. He is a little slow getting the items from the package to you after but he is very nice and I was very pleased with the end result.

Decorator: Caralis Weddings & Events
I absolutely do not recommend using this lady. The end result did end up looking nice, however the stress of dealing with her and the poor customer service was not worth it. The night before the wedding for set up, they were to be there at 8pm and did not show up until 11pm! The lady I was dealing with did not come and did not anwer her phone, she sent people I had never met. And she sent the WRONG table clothes. I only need a few round and mostly rectangle, she sent all rectangle. They could not come back until the next morning, the morning of the wedding, and they said due to their mistake they would set the tables. Well, all they did was set up the centre peices, the guys had to go set all the tables. She also never billed me for the final outanding amount, and did not give me a copy of the updated contract. I did not hear from her until months later when she finally sends a letter, calls and e-mails all in one day in such a tone as if we were deliberately withholding payment! And yet she never supplied us with the updated contract or the final bill! So even though I was very happy with how the decor looked in the end, I really wish I had gone with a large place that was a bit more expensive but that actually has decent customer service. I felt I was treated very very poorly by this lady.

Mens Outfits (Kilts): Colins Formal Wear
Their clothing is very nice, I was very happy with the kilts however again there was an issue. The guys did not get their outfits until the day of the wedding! My husband noticed a tag that said "rush" after getting them, so we think some one at Colins forgot to order them. But they did supply extra shirts as there was no time to fit them properly. My husband did not tell me about this, his mom told me just before the wedding after it was resolved. I am sure it caused my husband stress and so I would recommend following up to ensure everything has been ordered.

Ladies Outfits/Brides Outfit: Ballets Bridal
I was very happy with the selection and prices here. The ladies were all very nice. However I do not recommend getting the alterations done here. They made my sisters and maid of honours dresses so tight they could barely breath, and basically said too bad when we complained. I felt like once we had purchased the dresses they no longer felt they had to give use good customer service. So while I highly recommend them for buying the dresses, you should definitely go to a sewing shop to have the alterations done.

Well those are the main things. I did alot of DIY projects so this covers the main vendors I used.

Journal Table Numbers
As I mentioned earlier I am using journals for my table numbers. Well I have finally gotten the numbers on and I am really happy with them. I printed the numbers out on some parchment cardstock I already had then I used leftover cardstock from the wedding invitations and tada, we have my table numbers! I would also like to stamp phrases at the top of some of the pages to prompt people to leave us messages in them but I am still waiting for the stamper I ordered to do that to arrive. But the important part is done!

Our Engagement Pictures
I was so excited to get our engagement pictures, I tried to post them all but it didn't work, but I managed to get most of them up. I am so happy with them, our photographer Robert Miedema did a wonderful job! We did some around our farm then we went into town and did some in the park by the old town hall and library and then down by the river. I am using them for wedding announcements in the paper and I am going to use them in my guestbook.

Our Wedding Bands
I am very excited that we now have our wedding bands! I just love them! Rob is going to use his dad's band which I think is absolutely wonderful. As for myself we got a white gold band with alternating normal and blue diamonds, I just love it, I think it is so beautiful. It isn't really a wedding band, It's a ring I saw in the flyer for the jewelry store and I just loved it, so I took the flyer to the store and told the lady I wanted it for my wedding band, she gave me a very funny look and tried to show me "actual" wedding bands. They didn't have it in stock so they ordered it from another store, and when it got there the lady agreed it was a beautful ring. So now I have this big thing checked off the list!!!

Gifts for the parents
I don't know how many other people do this but I decided to get our parents gifts. We always give the wedding party gifts for all their help and thought well, what about the parents who are also helping us. My FHs parents have been great, though they can be somewhat overbaring at times, well that's only because they care. They have been so supportive, they are very excited about the wedding and his mom has been helping us out with alot of the small details. Getting married isn't just a big step for the couple, it's a big step for the families too. My parents are unable to help us in the financial sense but my mom has been great with helping out getting my sibblings organized for me as all 3 of them are in the wedding and they are ages 18, 16 and 13. My father has been really good about coming to events when my mom will be there as they had a messy divorce and he would really rather keep as much distance as possible between them, he has also helped with clean up after things which is so much help. So I got our fathers mutli-tool knives engraved with "Dad" and our wedding date. I got our mothers silver lockets that say "Mom" and had our wedding date engraved on the back. I hope they like them!

Bridal Shoes
I have my shoes!
I love my wedding shoes! I was having a bit of trouble finding anything I liked so I decided to order from the bridal shop catelog. I am so glad I did, not only did they have the style I was looking for but I was able to get them to dye the shoes to match the red in my dress! It was expensive but my centre pieces are only costing me about $5 each so I think it's ok to splurge in one area when you are cutting back in another.
I have also got my gifts for the girls but since some of them read my blog here I can't post them! But I have to say that I absolutely love what I got them and I think they will too!

Journal Table Numbers
Last year I was browsing around the DIY section on here and I came across a bride who was using journals as table numbers and I thought that was a wonderful idea! I would love to credit her with the idea but I can't remember whe she was and I can't seem to find the post again. So on Friday I was out shopping and I stopped at Dollarama to get some ribbon for another project and as I was wandering around I noticed that they had just stocked up their journals, since they only have so many of each kind, and I wanted 25 I chose 4 designs. I am going to use red and ivory scapbooking paper as a background for the numbers, and possibly gold or black for the numbers to tie it all together. With only just over a month to go I am really happy when I just stumble upon something that I want to use for the wedding!

Bridesmaids Dresses
So the bridesmaids dresses are in!!! Very exciting, I love them. This picture doesn't really do them justice as my sisters were just trying them on, they haven't had the alterations yet. I chose the blue for the sach because the guys kilts will be a blue pliad so I though it would tie in nicely. The maid of honour has an ivory sach to match my ivory dress. We have also got the shoes for my sisters but I don't have any pictures. I'm not making everyone wear the same shoes, all I asked was that they be black with a bit of a heel. I can't wait to see the dresses after alterations!

Wedding Flowers
Wedding Bouquet
So I decided on fake flowers for the bouquets after being quoted $530 for the bouquets and boutoniers for the wedding party. I still ended up spending more than I wanted but it was important to me that they not look tacky so I bought them all from Micheals. I spent around of $200, but that includes the floral tape, ribbon and other materials to acutally put the bouquets together. So that is still less than half the cost of real flowers. I am very happy with how it turned out. I wanted colour but I also wanted to make sure that they didn't blend in with the girls dresses. I'm hoping I can find some tartan ribbon to make a bow with to tie in with the guys kilts! So another job for this weekend is to make the rest of these. It should go faster than the first one though since I have design and I have tied the flowers for the remaining bouquets into bunches.

Jam Jam and More Jam
So as I have mentioned before I had decide to make home-made jam as my wedding favours. Well, I have made 14 cases! That is enough for all the wedding guests with a little extra. I still want to make a bit more because there are people who we are inviting to only the reception and I would like to set some out in baskets for them as well. But I have the majority made! It was a big job, I was getting just over a case per batch. I spent the long Canada Day weekend getting this done and am hoping to finish it this weekend which is a long weekend too. Then I will decorate them!
